I am not gonna lie, this channel helping the society. The information is free and accessible. Thank you for helping me to change my lifestyle and perspective on life.
As an observant Jew I wear a hat daily for most of the day (it's a sign of respect for us). I've been wearing black Fedoras and Trilby's for many decades. The high quality rabbit pelt used by Borsalino holds up well over many years and shapes itself to the head comfortably over time. All that's needed is a shoebrush, and a new band every so often together with a steam clean. I also have 2 black Bailey's Trilby's from 1972, which are like new. Yes, quality materials and workmanship are worth it!
EXCELLENT Video. Many guys who wear a hat do not realize that a cheap hat does tend to make one look cheap. Borsalino is still the brand with the best Classic Style and Top Quality. Remember, Life is All About the Details.
You’re so correct. People will buy a hat from Target or Walmart and think it’s really cool. There is no way you can wear such a hat in “confidence.” I keep hearing that phrase, but how can you wear a hat that is embarrassing to wear?
I own two Fedoras from Stetson made from wool and rabbit felt. Overall I'm very happy with them (a wind cord would be nice though sometimes) and I even thought twice about the rabbit felt one costing about 150 €. Most important for me was to go to a local hat shop, one of the few we still have, let myself been guided and being able to examine the quality.
Just got one from Borsalino, Fedora folar large brim model. Finally absolutely happy and perfect fit. After many fail purchases this is the right one and will never go elsewhere to buy a hat eventhough it wasn't the cheapest, £500
Thank you for mentioning Akubra, I swear by them myself, I own several. And to this day their dressier hats are made with all the hallmarks of the classic dress hat that you mention, including the ones missing from new Borsalinos, and for a fraction of the price, e.g. as of June 2021 the Stylemaster is $200 Australian ($153 US) and the Bogart is $215 Australian ($165 US). I also own an Akubra RM (made by Akubra for RM Williams) which pairs just as well with a suit as it does with jeans and more casual shirts, and even after drying off after a torrential downpour you could still wear it to a wedding (it might look more countrified, but hey, you can take the boy out of the country...).
I am the only person in my immediate family who has not had skin cancer. Both my brother and father had melanoma; my father dying from it. My brother's doctors recommended that I practice sun safety. I don't go out of the house without a hat on. My local hat maker, who is Italian, recommends that you stay clear of Borsalino, He says that Stetson and Akubra make much better hats, use better grade furs. The hats I like cost hundreds of dollars. Before I buy a hat, I talk to the hat maker. I want to make sure that whatever I buy he can fix, clean and reblock. I've worn a hat for 40 years, slouch hats / digger's hats, sombreros / ten gallon hats, fedoras, drover's hats, etc. Whatever hat I buy has to have a commanding brim, for I have huge shoulders and a head that is in proportion to my shoulders.
I'm still wearing the Akubra fedora my wife bought me 25 years ago. I've had a new internal band fitted, but otherwise still in very good condition. I can't remember the type but it looks like a direct copy and colour of Indiana Jones' hat. It could be a Stylemaster, if Akubra has been making them this long.
I have several fedoras. My very first, and one I still wear frequently, is a 1960s Borsalino. It has a 2 1/8 inch brim, the smallest I would wear, with a Cavanagh edge. It is very nice.
Greetings from Boston! I recently bought two Sterkowski Mosca hats in Black and Beige originally $92 and free shipping from Poland. They also had Christmas Sale 20% off. I’m very very happy with my purchase
Great review! I have four Borsalino hats still in my hold, in the late 80's I had at most nine different models. Most of my Borsalino's were made in the 80's but two of the one's I have left are made in the late 70's and I sort of feel the difference in quality. All in all I love these hats although there's not as many occasions I feel on point to wear them. I tend to wear bucket hats and caps more often.
I have a Borsalino homburg style hat in buff or light olive. It was purchased in Naples in 1951 or 1952 (the name and address of the shop that sold it is on the liner), along with the original box. It was bought by my father when based in Italy with the military. It probably cost him less than US$20. He did not wear it much at all, and it is a beautiful hat in near mint condition. Not sure what it's worth, but as it's not for sale, that hardly matters. 🕵️♂️
I wanted one of these when I started out, but saw the akubra stylemaster on Kevin from JJ hats channel and it looks like a more robust buy for starting out. Hat maintenance is important as well as resistance to rain and weather, and most of these things are rarely mentioned. What I'd like to see is a comparison of different hats and how their construction affects longevity, things like material stiffness, the material used and how they keep their shape over time.
The Akubra Stylemaster is an excellent starter, very durable, reliable and is still a handsome specimen even when it does age - it is the Paul Newman of hats.

The fedora I'm wearing in my profile picture was hand made by a lady named Leigh Magar, of Charleston South Carolina. But I do respect the craftsmanship of Borsalino.
I have an Alessandria travelers fedora I’ve had for 10 years with a Diamond crease I did myself. Wouldn’t trade it for all the tea in China. What model are you wearing at 4:14? I love the low profile!!!
Perhaps review the "high end" shoes from popular brands such as Florsheim, Bostonian, Johnson and Murphy ect ect. I feel it be a very practical video because a lot of men still buy from these brands. I for one enjoy the modern imperials, Goodyear welt line of Bostonian to the Aristicraft. Do consider it.
I was given a fedora ....I wear baseball cap lol. I didn't want to wear it. On a dare so to speak. I wore it.. bold and proud lol. After a bit. I actually liked it and it got great compliments and soon after a few others I know started rocking their fedoras lol. Mine is Indy style and I've shaped it to me. Wearing it now ,and it's become identifiable with me. Looks great with even western style nice shirts. All colors. Much better than a ball cap
I think borsolino is the best hat company, I've tried other brands but nothing comes close to them, I always go to their boutique in lakewood New Jersey
Hi, amazing video as always! Just one feedback: i’m from Alessandria (the city where Borsalino is based) and the first picture that you put of the city is definitely not my city ahaha never mind tho, keep up with the nice content!

I would love to see videos specifically about the Homburg hat and the Top hat 🎩, keeping in the other hat Playlists!! Great video, I know where to look for a new hat
I own a borsalino I bought in 1982 and it lasted many years with cleaning and reblocking about every 5 years. In shopping for a new hat I couldn’t stand the external branding so I went for an English Lock and Company. I think it’s a much higher quality.
My Orthodox Jewish partner wears these kinds of hats. He's quite stylish, so I didn't know what to think, but I then saw hundreds of men wearing these hats at a wedding.
Indiana Jones got me into hats. I have always loved his outfit in Raiders, and I literally wear almost the exact same outfit every time I go out. It makes me feel awesome, and I get nothing but compliments on it. Penman hats, AdVintage hats, Screencapped leather and hats, and Herbert Johnson are amazing hat companies in addition to the ones you mentioned in the video. Though most of those focus on Indiana Jones related hats, so that’s probably why I’ve heard about them a lot.
I’ve always admired 1930s style movies and men’s style back then and especially their head where like Fedora and Homburg and Boater and Newsboy cap and confidence to
Unaffordable for me, but even if I could, I get turned off from classic companies going too "street" or "youth". Also, labels on classic men's wear belong on the inside, not the outside.
Yes absolutely the Fedora is still relevant to fashion. Mens fashion currently is horrific and I do believe returning to the classic style is the answer. I'm seriously considering purchasing one the only issue is finding a department store that sells them and getting the right fit.
I've found Il Cappello, an Italian company that makes decent hats for no money at all, from 30 to 50€. I've got one so far and it's good for when it's raining and such, when you might not want to wear an expensive hat. They're obviously machine made, as the sizes are exactly true to the label. My local hatter that makes very high quality hats can't always get the size 100% right. I've got a super large head and at that kind of size, just normal shrinking of the felt may make the hat not go on my head at all.
Good video, but surprised you went straight to Stetson and Borsalino - Christy's and especially a Locke have quite the histories reputation. I am also impressed that you talked about how the specific features of the hats you tried didn't suit your face specifically.
Buying quality clothing is always worth it. You may pay more, but it lasts a lot longer. Classic fadoras, I feel, are a very nice, distinguished look. It gives a man a more classy look even when he is dressing casually.
On a trip to NYC over 30 years ago, I stopped at a well-known hat store. On a lark, I purchased a Borsolino. I have worn that hat for 30 years of winters and it still looks like I just purchased it. My guess is the reason for their bankruptcy is that few people were buying their hats, because they last so long and hold so well! "Planned obsolescence" was NOT their business model. No doubt in my mind that you get what you pay for and I am betting I will get another 30 years out of this great hat. Is it worth it? YES!
I bought a Borsalino fedora some years ago in Cortona, Italy for 120 Euro!. Although it was never worn in the rain, it lost its shape after a few months. When I took it back to the store and asked what could be done, I was given a shrug. I have since bought a couple of Panizza hats for a fraction of the cost that have held their shape well after many years of use.
Have you considered reviewing the iconic British hat makers like Locke and co, Christy's and Bates? It would be interesting to hear a comparison between them so you can advise which you think is the best value for money ;)
Both are interesing, Borsalino and Fedora. Both are great trade-mark, dipend how you dressing and in wich occasion you wearing the hat. My opinion is: those tipes of hats aren't for daily use.
I had a chat with my local Akubra (Australian made hats) agent. He was telling me Akubra is importing more rabbit pelts from Europe because of the 'war' on rabbits in Australia. Australia has been attempting to eradicate the rabbit for decades, by introducing the calicivirus into the wild rabbit population. It seems to be working.
I love classic hats. So far I have an Akubra Stylemaster, a Stetson Whippett, and two Stetson straws. I'm looking for a open crown for my next hat. Problem I live in a humid area so straws work better.
I am going to assume that you bought your hats from DelMonico Hatter since their price is good. the Store was founded in 1908 and is still owned and operated by the DelMonico Family they are also the largest independent dealer of Borsalino hats in the US. I was the retail manager there until I left to work for RHE Hatco selling Stetson and Dobbs to the retail trade in the Southeast.
You mention Michael Jackson as a Borsalino wearer. Years ago, I read an anecdote about him on concert tour, in which he did a dance number in which a hat was a featured prop. He started onstage, and then a hat was tossed to him from offstage. He caught the hat, then tossed it into the air, and it came down to land squarely on his head, every time. He then proceeded with his dance number. At the conclusion, he threw the hat out into the audience! Well, his tour managers were growing concerned, because these were $200 hats, which meant that this act was becoming expensive! So, without telling Michael, they decided to substitute as less-expensive hat. Soon, at the next performance, Michael was onstage, expecting to catch a hat to be tossed to him. But when the cheaper hat flew onstage and he caught it, he immediately tossed it back, and continued the act without the hat. After the show, Michael talked with his management, explaining that he threw back the hat because, being different, he had not had a chance to rehearse with it and know for certain that it would land on his head after he tossed it into the air -- so, please, if they wanted to change hats, tell him beforehand, so he could practice with it and so be prepared. This is of course an important lesson for performing artists: if something goes wrong, just work around it, acting as if it was part of the act all along, and your audience will never know the difference. So, now I wonder: were those Borsalino hats that he was tossing into the audience every night?...!
I love vintage straws and felts, unfortunately its hard to find sz 61,thanks for answering why that is,i own a variety of hat ,95 in total and still dont have a borsalino!
Thanks for the video! Any plan on doing a product/brand review of Lock Hatters, the oldest in the world? I have two of their hats and one of their flat caps and can attest to their quality!
Borsalino makes the best hats by far. The Framcisco is very refined and the name on the band is not flashy at all. I mean sh×t it is 2021 and not trying to look like I'm wearing a costume from a 1940s post war movie. Its a small brand placement.
Excellent presentation. I don't know how people used to wear felt hats year round. My head dissipates lots of heat, especially in warm weather. I can work outside in 20 degree weather without a hat and I'm balding.
I recently found a old borsalino hat probably from the 50's in a building im working in. Its quite nice but i struggle to wear it asit makes my face itch. Ive dont research trying to find the cause but i suspect the lanolin oil had dried and is leaving the hat and drying my face as it falls out during the day. Any tips on how to stop this and make the hat comfortable to wear again? Ive condisered conditioner or sending the hat for cleaning.
I'll take a Goorin Brothers hat over all these other brands any day!! Started 1895, by Castle Goorin in Pennsylvania. Then his two sons Ted and Alfred, took over, moved it to San Francisco. Goorin is still family owned.
Preston, do you have any tips on staying cool in suits/multilayered clothing while living in a hot climate? Texan here, and that’s the only thing keeping me from jumping on into dressing more how I want to dress. I couldn’t find this subject on the channel, though there are so many videos I easily could have missed it. Thanks!
I do enjoy hats but I prefer them a little bigger in order to cover my eyes from the sun... You know, central parts of Latin America has some harsh weather, so to speak.
I won't speak to the Borsalino Fedora, but I can speak to the Borsalino Homburg. The Homburg Stetson made 100 years ago, the St. Regis, is a grand, fine hat. Borsalino comes right up close to that.
If you can't find a St. Regis in your price range, the Borsalino Homburg will, "fit the bill". And I don't mean that in a derogatory way. Borsalino makes the finest modern Homburg.
I got a Borsalino Panama Hat and absolutely love it. Fine weave and perfect shape with medium width snap brim.
Yeah, those are high quality, and can't go wrong. Nice piece for sure. SALUTE!

When I took it back to the store and asked what could be done, I was given a shrug. I have since bought a couple of Panizza hats for a fraction of the cost that have held their shape well after many years of use.
Thanks. I own 2 and it is good to know that they are quality products.
I hope this video get million views! 🤩😍 preston is my fav youtuber now 🥰🥰. Bye sven see ya.
I have 3 fedoras...all are stetsons. I is a black dress. 1 is a brown workaday and a summer straw...but my favorite is a straw boater!
That's a great hat brand for sure. And, Boater Hats are cool too. SALUTE
Nice hat brand for sure. SALUTE
Have you considered reviewing the iconic British hat makers like Locke and co, Christy's and Bates? It would be interesting to hear a comparison between them so you can advise which you think is the best value for money ;)
Really hope you tackle both Akubra and Stetson! Especially Akubra’s Federation and Stylemaster models and Stetson’s Stratoliner and Whippet.
Wonderful presentation! I would love to wear one of these! Thank you!
A LOVELY hat you are wearing there Preston! Just fine!
Have Akubra hat's made it to the US? And if so what do you think of them? they are the premier Australian hat company.
What do you guys think of hats from Bailey of Hollywood?
I wear a brownish leather fedora styled after Indiana Jones’ famous headwear every chance I get. I also have a dark grey wool fedora from Bailey’s.
I love classic hats. So far I have an Akubra Stylemaster, a Stetson Whippett, and two Stetson straws. I'm looking for a open crown for my next hat. Problem I live in a humid area so straws work better.
I find that there are plenty of options of vintage Borsalini that provide a higher quality workmanship, heavier felt, and a much better price.
Your looking good in this vid!! Keep it up 👍
My boat hat (straw) is a Scala and my fedora Heischel (linen) and both are lovely hats for about $50
Nice name
I am going to assume that you bought your hats from DelMonico Hatter since their price is good. the Store was founded in 1908 and is still owned and operated by the DelMonico Family they are also the largest independent dealer of Borsalino hats in the US. I was the retail manager there until I left to work for RHE Hatco selling Stetson and Dobbs to the retail trade in the Southeast.
I love Delmonico & buy all my hats from them. It helps that I live within 45 minutes of the shop to window shop and try on styles. Great people.
Also don't forget Lock & Co Hatters of London for a long lived hat maker who was founded 1676.
Christy hatters was founding in 1773 and is still going strong like Lock & Co
Your views on the Akubra Federation 4 deluxe fedora would be really interesting!
I love vintage straws and felts, unfortunately its hard to find sz 61,thanks for answering why that is,i own a variety of hat ,95 in total and still dont have a borsalino!
I got an old used Borsalino hat for 70€. Was very much worth the price
Thanks for the video! Any plan on doing a product/brand review of Lock Hatters, the oldest in the world? I have two of their hats and one of their flat caps and can attest to their quality!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on Akubra hats, I have a few of their urban styles and I’m in love with them, wearing and showing my Australian pride
The Bogart clue makes sense now
Borsalino is a fan favorite of the orthodox Jewish community - I believe they are the only community in the US that still wear hats on a daily basis
I was going to comment this.... Looks like you beat me to it!
Borsalino makes the best hats by far. The Framcisco is very refined and the name on the band is not flashy at all. I mean sh×t it is 2021 and not trying to look like I'm wearing a costume from a 1940s post war movie. Its a small brand placement.
Yet again, awesome video! What's your opinion on Tonak fedoras? I own five quality fedoras from them.
Please do the rayban wayfarers, clubmasters, and aviators episode soon! Really need it before summer ends.
Excellent presentation. I don't know how people used to wear felt hats year round. My head dissipates lots of heat, especially in warm weather. I can work outside in 20 degree weather without a hat and I'm balding.
they didn't, people would generally wear straw hats in the summer months
I recently found a old borsalino hat probably from the 50's in a building im working in. Its quite nice but i struggle to wear it asit makes my face itch. Ive dont research trying to find the cause but i suspect the lanolin oil had dried and is leaving the hat and drying my face as it falls out during the day. Any tips on how to stop this and make the hat comfortable to wear again?
Ive condisered conditioner or sending the hat for cleaning.
The subtle edge is very important !!! I don't understand why they don't do it this way 😔
This is brilliant!
Never knew what was up with mad as a hatter
Could you please do a video on downtown abbey?
Contact James Carson, Manor House Butler, Bampton, Oxfordshire, U.K.
He’ll set you up.
Please do a Moscot Sunglasses is it worth it? Thanks 🙏🏼
Can you please make review of Bellisimo hats?
Portugal was mentioned, victory in sight.
My recommendation☺️
18:03 solid workmanship? The brim looks wavy uneven in one spot.
Love the film Borsalino, RIP Alain Delon.
8:16 what hat is that? Anyone know?
You should do a video on the Indiana Jones hat, I've always wanted to wear one of those.
Wait, Al Capone AND David Bowie wore them? I don't need to watch the rest of this video.I'll just click Like and get myself a Borsalino.
Consumerism at its finest...
@@PrincipalSkinner3190 I agree, but if their hats had a wider brim,no outside logo, and were 25-50 less, they'd be on the top of my list
Espera! Nuestras cabezas se han vuelto más grandes??
I'll take a Goorin Brothers hat over all these other brands any day!! Started 1895, by Castle Goorin in Pennsylvania. Then his two sons Ted and Alfred, took over, moved it to San Francisco. Goorin is still family owned.
Love my Goorin Bros hats.
I love my Dean the Butcher, in whisky!
Please make a video about the fur coats
Preston, do you have any tips on staying cool in suits/multilayered clothing while living in a hot climate? Texan here, and that’s the only thing keeping me from jumping on into dressing more how I want to dress. I couldn’t find this subject on the channel, though there are so many videos I easily could have missed it. Thanks!
Buy a summer-weight suit! Cotton or linen suits are probably your best bet.
I do enjoy hats but I prefer them a little bigger in order to cover my eyes from the sun... You know, central parts of Latin America has some harsh weather, so to speak.
I get my fedoras made custom at the Virginia city hat shop.
If I had $500-700 to spend on a hat, I’d go custom.! It sure wouldn’t be Borsalino!
Oh, that's nice! SALUTE
I remember even Stephanie Zimbalist in "Remington Steele" wearing these
how about bellisimo fedora hat
