In reality the peaky blinders existed before the 1st World War, and by the twenties had been removed from Northern English towns by strong policing. The problem is most TV shows never allow true facts to get in the way of a good story line. There were major riots in the U.K. after end of the First World War, but we’re dealt with somewhat violently by the authorities. I literally just started and finished this whole series about a week ago. What an awesome show! I just hate they didn't wrap up some things in the final season, I'm sure because they're setting up for the movie. Cillian was was exceptional. Not saying most the actors weren't great. Lol kinda glad I waited and got to see the whole series without waiting on the next one.
Great review. Funny you should mention Poirot, I'd be interested in seeing a review of the outfits from the David Suchet series or maybe the most recent adaptions by Kenneth Branagh.
For a better understanding you should know that a cut across the forehead generates a heavy bloodflow down into the eyes, thereby making it hard for your opponent to see (much worse than sweat blinding the eyes). Wiping tends to make the mess worse, and it all serves to distract your opponent.
One detail I really liked was the metal sleeve garters they used in the early seasons. It makes sense they didn’t use them later-they could afford shirts that fit their proportions!
Although set in Birmingham the street scenes were filmed in Liverpool, Lancashire, and Port Sunlight, Cheshire, and Bromborough and Ellesmere Port. They did film some bits in Warwickshire I think.

Just a word about the way Changretta is wearing his hat. In Italy and especially in Sicily, this was (and still is somehow) the way that less wealthier class were wearing their hats. Every farmer or every worker would have a cap or a hat wore this way. Since Changretta is Italian, I suppose it makes sense

I’m commenting before watching this but from what I’ve seen the fashion in the show is pretty spot on for the time, however the main characters break so many rules, rules that definitely wouldn’t be allowed to be broken by the time they get into high society and hang around socialites. Tommy will show up to a formal white tie dinner wearing a heavy tweed 3 piece suit, a collarless dress shirt, and a massive overcoat. They wouldn’t even let you through the door. However given his status and reputation, I’m sure most people understand that refusing him entry would result in their property being burnt to the ground, their entire family murdered and thrown into the river. They’d probably leave him alive just to let him stew in the despair.

That's it really. Not much else to it.
🚨🚨🚨🚨 wow I think the video is totally amazing!!!!! Since I started watching movies about the Second World War, well, and seeing 98 movies about this theme and seeing the clothing of that time, I fell in love with it and everything related to the decade of the 20s, 30s and 40s for me is great since I am too young and well I imagine that in the future I will be living as in the past, and now I am watching this series of the peaky blinders and their clothing is very gangster. I came across this channel and I'm already seeing around 173 of your videos and I already know some methods that some young people could commit but I don't and thanks for that 🤝🤩
Colab with Kirby Allison when?
Do you guys have any advise on rowan atkinson character in maigret - wardrobe wise as I would like to dress like him?
That's a good call he was excellent as Maigret
The hair cut came from WW1.
Shaved sides to prevent dirt and lice etc
Long top to work as a cushion when wearing a helmet in battle.
Same as Brad Pitt in Fury.
Do a video about David Suchet's Hercule Poirot!
And take note of his excellent walking stick / umbrella collection!
Include Peter Ustinov too the only other poirot incredible actor and man
Agree! Fabrics now are artificial! Not like back in the late 50’s & early 60’s! I think 🤔
Yup hopefully Europe can ban synthetic fiber and reintroduce natural fabric that would immensely reduce clothing pollution.
The blade in the cap thing is a myth, the name peaky blinders originated because they would wear their peaked caps in a style where it would cover one eye and show off their quiff style haircuts.
Bad history is bad history.....BRIDES HEAD REVISITED was spot on
Gentlemen Gazette.
Is their any advice you have to make this practical all year round?
Because I mean lets just say that I woudnt want to dress like this in the summer.
I think the caps were called peaky blinders because they have a peak and limit your range of vision like a horse's blinders (the immediate association for the word blinders back then)
For what is is worth I have two pair of oxford Balmoral boots. I love the look and think they can be worn with anything from jeans to a suit. I'm a religious Jew and as a result I always wear a black fedora hat and have two pin striped black suits and one plain black in addition to my other suits.
Finding the shirts with the rounded collars is nearly impossible. I was able to score a couple on Amazon but they needed a lot of tailoring.
