This whole collection is my Go-To now. Even though many are harder to create custom sounds with than, say, with Pigments, I find that each synth has such unique flavors and character. And it's hard to get into modern synths as much when compared to the insanity of synths like Buchla and such. All the new ones in V9 are my favorite synths ever (well, those guys, and then Buchla.)
thank you for the great review Jeff. Awesome work from Arturia, Love everything about the brand. Cleanly developed & kinda moving in NI territories with Augmented instruments. I see plenty of future development in that direction. For me, I look around my studio and Arturia software + hardware kinda took over the last few months (V collection 9, Pigment, MicroFreak, KeyLab essential 49, Keystep 37, BSP which is amazing with MPC one). So much fun and easy on that MacBook pro. Amazing times for the music lovers. Thank you!
Hi Jef, Thank You very Much for this very interesting tutorial / demo. Thank You to share your knowledge and experience with us. Best regards from Switzerland
That's tough to say, that's a lot of cash, and the main thing is the SQ80 and the Korg, since the Prophets, piano, CS-80 are updates that you might not even notice sound quality-wise... Might be time to just dig into those ones in V8 that you haven't really explored yet!
It depends on how many hours a month do you sit down and play synths. I like playing so I know I put about 20-30 hours a month. Some months I can do 40-50 of playing so I definitely get value out of it. Ask yourself how much time do you spend in the studio
@@LocaliLLocano Great point - my question was more around the difference between V8 (which I own) and V9 - which to me, other than the MS-20 (My very first physical synth, yeah I am that old, and perhaps that's a good enough reason...) doesn't seem like such a huge upgrade. I think I will wait for one of the big annual sales.
The previous versions of the prophet I found to be a bit bland and lacklustre. The two new(separate) versions are on a whole new level now. Particularly the prophet-5 v has exceeded my expectations. Arturia have knocked it out of the park with this one. It has a much fatter, characterful sound which entices me to use it more. The MS-20 is no slouch either -and compared to Korg's own software version can hold it's own. The CS-80 also rocks compared to the previous version and sounds VERY much improved. The new strings and choir are a lot of fun to use but can hog the CPU if you are not carful or are using an old system. Overall Arturia have lifted the bar again I think. Highly recommended.
Since Glen Darcey left to do the fantastic Hydrasynth V Collection has really lagged behind most of the other offerings. The controllers, pigments, brutes, audio fuses, and microfreak are all compelling in their marketspace. I usually skip upgrades (on 7 now), but between the modular rig, Komplete, and iPad offerings I will probably wait for 10.
Does anyone know: how do you start a 'new preset' i.e. a blank sheet with each instrument? I can only find "New Preset..." in the standalone version of Pigments but any instrument in Analog / V Collection 9 (including Pigments) doesn't have this option.
I think i might wait until they get to Arturia 10. Not enough new to get me to upgrade. I own the SQ80 and the only synth i might like is the new korg MS20. I already have the IOS Korg version and the cherry audio version. Ill check out the Demo and compare but i just did a shootout with the new CA Memory Mode and Cherry Audio won hands down with their emulation over arturia. Native Instruments and GForce. Unfortunately Arturia isn’t my go to because of the COU hit in a lot of the synths.
great set of instruments. Get this, get NI komplete. And you are ready to rumble.. But secretly i was hoping they would be adding pigments to the V-collection
another great video. Hoping Arturia will release some more vintage / retro digital synths in the future. Even thou I like The Beast by UVI more than Arturia’s Synclavier because the Beast includes way more drum samples
Have they made any improvements to CPU usage for augmented strings cuz damn I’ve never had any instrument that is that heavy. I have an i9 and 64 gb of Ram and the best Samsung SSD on the market and it was still using 40-60% of my cpu with basically every patch
They have run out of keyboard companies willing to partner with them and really take us back to the old days. So now they are giving us new creations, but while I recognize value in that, it seems to me like they should maybe just hang it up. Would love to have virtual Kurzweil K250, Rhodes Chroma, and especially PPG 2.3 That would be more in the spirit of the original key collection series. The new additions were never hardware keyboards. Again, maybe they should just quit on the whole concept. They could still maybe do the Crumar GDS. That would be awesome.
Only if you really need the Korg, SQ, and the augmented series! The others are nice redesigns, but they probably won't pack as much punch if you already have the old ones...
arturia has the right to money that said, not sure if i'll be upgrading from V 8 since the upgrade price i'm getting is $199. the Korg is a nice addition, but already have the Cherry Audio PS-20
@@jefgibbons I contacted Arturia and they said it's because I am making payments. Once I finish paying then the upgrade will be $199. I bought v8 less than 2 months ago. OK did some serious digging and here it is: The old versions are still working as they did before -but only as standalone. However, they were replaced in V-8 with the new versions which are locked. So in Analog Lab - I don't have access to the synths just the presets, but I can use the synths as standalone. Still annoying... I opened a ticket with support. will update!
UPDATE: After a lot of back and forth with the excellent, responsive Nicholas at Arturia, they were able to correct an issue with Analog Lab. I downloaded a new version, made sure "Support Legacy" is checked, restarted the Lab, and now, each patch shows which version of the synth it is associated with. If it is a synth I own, the patch loads and allows me to edit. If the patch is from a new updated synth - it gives me the "You don't own this synth" message. I have to say I was super impressed with support.
