That dog pound hellscape really traumatized me as a kid, especially since it was very easy to accidentally trigger the level as you were exploring the previous one I LITERALLY WAS NOT READY FOR THAT also the big machine gave me nightmares and the random criminals that can SHOOT you did something to my innocent young european mind
fr tho I quite fondly remember playing this at my grandma's place. It had turned evening at that point, I was still just chillin' in the big city fooling around. Then I made it to the final area, heard the music and got chased by the Dobermen and I could not handle that. I slinked into the corridor to the living room and begged her to come play it with me (she was used to playing and had a thing for horror-games so it wasn't a problem for her). But hot dang
It can be activated by doing this: Bark 3 times, growl 3 times then fart. you should get an indication via the audio if done correctly. I only found it myself about a year or 2 ago, after I beat the game several times cheat free. ( I really had nothing better to do as a kid other than play PS2 games on weekends.)
My favorite part of this game as a kid was the radio stations, the weird cat station, and THE LOUD BROTHERS LIVE at the mountains were so entertaining to little me. And actually, if you stand next to them for like an hour they just keep on going with new topics hahaha. I can't find any info on the internet about them though!
Have you ever had a game that you absolutely adored as a kid, one that you thought was perfect in every way and was an absolute masterpiece, only to find out as an adult that it is far from all that and you fall into a deep depression and question everything you thought you knew? For me, that game is this one right here XD Mind you, this game will still always have a special place in my heart. It really does make me feel like a kid again 💙
I know that feeling all too well, especially with this game! I honestly thought this was the best thing since sliced bread when I was a kid... even the pooping on command was gold to me. 😂
Had good memories of this game. It's a very rough game sure, but it tried something different. And I kinda found the jankiness and weird dialogue oddly charming.
Man, this game takes me back. Mind you, I didn't exactly enjoy it, but its nostalgic for other reasons. It certainly hasn't aged well, plus that ending... was... something, aha. Thank you for going through this fever dream of a game in detail. I've really been enjoying your reviews and admiring the amount of work you put into them!
I used to play this almost every day! I still go back to it sometimes and replay it, it's one of my most favourite games that I've completed 100% found everything twice. I believe you'd hate the city centre area because there's a time collection there, but it's really difficult to get out of one of the lift room windows, almost impossible, takes forever to do! I really want to remake this game one day just for me to play lol
I loved messing around on this game as a kid, just pretending to be a dog. No matter how awkward the game was in hindsight (especially the constant toilet humour), I still give it props for giving the player a lot of options for simply being a dog. The last level scared me though; I hid upstairs while my dad finished it for me. Also, did you notice that the parrots you come across in the game will say quotes from sci-fi shows and the mean lady in the town shop occasionally steals from the til? I thought they were some interesting details.
You reminded me that I always had to turn the sound off at the dog pound because the music scared me so much! Sounds straight out of a horror game 😳 I still love the exploration in this game. My favourite thing was that the towns felt real, like the characters actually lived in them. One of the best games from my childhood even though it is very outdated!
Why is 24:37 just outright killing me!? After all the heccin' customers I had o deal with today this one video just saved the entire day, Thank you so much!

The reason im watching this video rn is that i just had a dream where i was playing the game, saved it and suddenly went from 70 bones to 5 and i noticed that there was something weird about the game? So i restarted it and realised that it had somehow changed, small parts of the level desing and gameplay/story were different so it felt like i was playing it for the first time since i didnt know what i was supposed to do anymore and i was happy
I saw a few clips from this game, but this is the first time I've gotten the full context of the game and what it's about. After watching the video I got to say: 1. Who was the idiot who thought that this game could be played by kids 2. Wow this is one of the wackiest games I've ever seen, and that's saying a lot.
Hey Andrew! Yup, this game is incredibly weird. And it hides a very dark story, which I assume the EU rating people didn't look too much into when giving the game a 3+... 😂
When I was a kid, naturaly I played it in my native language (finnish) and I dont remember it being so bad for kids. Other than of course the last phase, I had to mute, because I was so afraid of the music, I could'nt play. I also did'nt so much mind the farting and pooping. I mainly just played the story. This is my nostalgia juice and even now as an adult I still sometimes play it through.
A long long time ago, hundreds of years it's been, I was a young lad, I had me an older brother who gave me his old ps1 with Spyro 1, Crash 2, Tomb Raider, Frogger, and that one with the zombies in a mansion, I can't remember the name of it, there were some other I can't think of. Back then, in town there was a place called Gamerz, he stole me a Scooby-Doo and the Cyberchase, and Spyro 2 and 3 for the ps1. All those games were incredible to me, Crash 2, Tomb Raider, and the 3 Spyro games are still incredible.
Lmfao, I grew up in upstate NY. When I was 9yrs old around the Year 2004, I randomly spotted the game on a weekend blockbuster visit. I loved dog's back then, so this was my go to game if there was nothing else despite beating it already. I laughed so hard at this game. Throwing poop at people, pooping on people, barking at people. Yea... Now the bad game design is what I laugh at. Characters floating, cut and pasted characters, weird character movements, etc... I when I was 9, I was scared at the end level pushing through the whole thing crying. My brother who was 17 at the time wondered how this whole level got in a kids game.

I first played this game in a PS2 Demo disc that I got with the console. It was next to Jurassic Park Operation Genesis, Jak and Daxter, Conflict Desert Storm and my absolute favourite Dark Cloud a game I SOOOOO wanted when it came out. However like you my parents failed to find it for almost 3 years, and when I got it I was around 9. I remember loving it though struggling a bit because I was a impatient kid, but looking back on it I can see how forgiving the game was. It prioritised being fun over being overly challenging, as I just played the game and breezed through it in around 5 hours as a adult. The game is not hard but its a fun game and functions well as to what many early PS2 games were in the 2003 era which were what I call tech demos. They were arcade games ported over or they were made to showcase and take advantage of the hardware found on the PS2. And oh my god am I glad you bought up the ending. I was so freaked out by the dog pound I didn't play the game for a month. It was so creepy and a full 180 degree turn in tone. The music still sends a chill down my spine. I will say to anyone reading this the game is worth a play. Its not overly challenging but its a unique game with a okay game loop. Its worth a pick up if you can get it cheap from a second hand store. I would recommend it though this is largely nostalgia. But if you want a quirky early PS2 game its a good example of the wild early days of the 2000 era of gaming: not a perfect example, but I guess that's why it would stand out.
I played the game as a kid and back then it was bought for my sister but she wanted me to help her out on the hard parts of the game. I liked the game for being fun but can't argue that it does have a dark side under all the enjoyable parts. Also I swear the version I have also has Dog's Trust on the grooming stations.
I played the game when i was a kid and really loved it! I had difficulty with many of the missions and i think i mostly got the bare minimum amount of bones required for next area (I never used the first person mode so that is also a thing) I mostly loved platforming thru the game, Reaching high areas, getting ontop of cars, into buildings etc.. Especially places that i shouldn't be! i managed that sometimes^^ I know i loved the game as a kid :>
It was such an amazing game and still has a special place in my heart! Sometimes I'd forget about the missions, pretend to be a real dog and wander around. 😂
I got this game when I was like....13..? Don't know how I got it, but I remember playing it after school everyday. I loved it. It got me through a lot of stuff.
oh my ! I was 11 in 2003 ( 13 years before Dark Souls buddies !). It's one my madeleine moment : at this time I was very sick and I had played it all days long. Even now (and I'm now 27 >
Welp this WON'T be added to my PS2 collection. This has to be one of the weirdest games I've ever seen. Just like the Angry Video Game Nerd says "What were they thinking?!?". I'd say these developers have come a long ass way since this game.
@@ToridoriGaming I bet LOL. This reminds me a little bit of another ratings situation. When the first four Ratchet & Clank games came out, 1-Deadlocked/Gladiator, they were all rated T for Teen. When the HD collection and the HD version of Deadlocked released in 2012 and 2013 respectively, they all were re-rated E10+. E10+ didn't exist until 2005. Maybe Dog's Life should've got an M rating? 😂
my favourite thing about this game was the collar changes everytime you went into the grooming parlour. i would actually go through that animation multiple times to get the collar i wanted wtf me. hearing that guy say “i love my axe” actually triggered something within me...
I was five and don't quite understand English when I played this game (I absolutely LOVE the game) I didn't have difficulty in completing mini missions, I figured out the walking on ice part quite easily, the only one that I didn't understand at all was the sleeping bandit and the thief who would shoot Jake. The part that I really gave up was the time challenge. I could not do any of time. I did figure out that you can get treats if you are clean and do tricks in front of pedestrians (and also on the gambling machine :P), and that if Killer chase you, you can just run towards the "exit" and the chase would be over. The kitty retrieving part was a little annoying at first but then I realised I could just put them in the "pen" next to the door so they won't have enough time to walk out of the house if I go get another kitty. The only annoying part is the ski slope part. I have to slide down dozen of times to catch the scent in the slippery ice and I have to risk Jake getting dizzy. I managed to get to the scary dog pound one, it did scare me a lot and I was not quite ready for it, but I still did it. Unfortunately I was not allowed to play the final part because my mum hated games and believed I had played too much. I only got to find out the ending many years later on RUclips. I want to play again, just to ace it and revisit childhood.
I was oddly enamored with this game for like two days, called it grand theft dog. Doggie mischief is a pretty novel concept for a game, I wonder if anyone will revisit the idea. Edit: Christ at that ending!!!
I think the sensors would have blown their tops if the lake wasn't called Lake minnewawa. It's really called, Lake Titicaca. That would have fit better than what they put in the game. Also the guy who keeps sneezing, he sounds a lot like a more annoying Carl wheezer from Jimmy Neutron
My uncle imported this from Europe to the UK for me because it truly was impossible to get here. The dog-catcher bits terrified me, as did the Boom City shooter and the end level. Utterly bizarre how it received such a low age rating, haha.
Great review, I've only recently just did my own two part review of this game, though my style is differrent to yours (my style follows that of Spoony I guess lol). You talked about things that I talked about and you touched on things that I certainly wanted to cover but I think if I did, my review would have ended up in 3 parts. This too was a game I begged mum and dad to get for me back in 2003 for Christmas, so seeing someone else with that similar connection it gives me comfort lol. Also your capture settings are way better than mine. I'm jealous haha. Mind you I'm still working out the best settings with what I have (I used the PS3 cable that comes with the old Elgato game capture). Subscribed btw!
You're doing it the legitimate way though, I was emulating the game and therefore cheating with the quality! I know the feeling of having to cut stuff for reviews because it'll be too long. I keep trying to keep mine under 20 minutes but it's always a struggle... 😂
@@ToridoriGaming Wow I'm suprised you managed to emulate it. I thought it was notoriously difficult to emulate with all the weird visual glitches, or at least that was my result when I tried to run it, also Vinesauce Vinny had the same result and a couple of others. Still, it doesn't look that much different from the real thing, it looks better haha. But yeah... I understand the cutting content thing and wanting to stick to a timeframe. Even when I cut stuff down it ends up being bloody long in the end. lol Anyway, I'll deffinitely be binge watching your other stuff. A lot of the jokes and pokes at the game hit the right funny bones for me.
Thank you Sean! I did have loads of issues on hardware settings, I had to change to software in the end because of the graphical glitches like you said. PS2 games are such a nightmare to emulate. 😓
I loved this game when I was younger it took me a lot of time to finish, I'm replaying it now and I still feel the same that I felt as a kid, the same magic, but now I just now where everything is so it's far more easier to finish the game. I love the details that the dogs feel like l real dogs (but I know that the humans don't feel like humans xD) and I think this game is a forgotten gem that for the age it was released its an amazing game!!
at one point as a kid i couldn't beat the finale (the cat food machine level) and after trying too many times i just started to cry out of frustration. my mother then thought i was crying because of the ending plot twist. (i rly dunno if this is a false memory or not but) later we went to the store where mom had bought it and she complained/pointed out to a clerk that the game was too dark for little kids. nevertheless i loved this game to death and it definitely was one of those ps2 games i could play tirelessly as a kid. i played it a lot and when i say "a lot" i really mean it. at times i quoted some lines from the game which made my mom laugh but being a 4-6yo i couldn't understand what was so funny about them.
She'd give Cruella a run for her money or maybe they're related! lol This game had bits of 102 Dalmatians to the Rescue to me personally. does anyone else get that vibe?
Oh definitely, it's so much different to let's plays. With them you kinda just react to what happens at the time, but with these I can give my own thoughts on the developer's choices and add my own jokes. "The power of Christ compels you!"
I played this at one point, but never got far enough to play the last 2 levels. Oh boy, is that messed up 0_0 Another great review! And these 2 assholes in the track may be annoying, but your voice is fun to listen to, so don't you dare compare yourself to them!
That game doesn't perfect, but it was fun. I think, without fart jokes, dark ending, and with a better platformer elements, a Dog's life 2 would be nice.
I'm trying to find a safe way to emulate this game. What emulator did you use? And what website did you get the iso from? Btw I love these new reviews!
I played the jampack ps2 demo of this game. I remember not knowing english so the awkward dialog never felt weird because i think i never understood it. Looking back at my chilhood it got me thinking on looking up a review for this game i never owned but damn its a weird game.
I have played this video game before on the PS2 but I never beat it. Looking back at something that was very questionable for a video game intended for children.
man i remember i bought this game at Target because it was super cheap and i bought it not expecting to like it but i played that game for hours and i dont know if it was because i was so young or because i was just bad but i never finished the game and it still annoys me to this day
If you bark 3 times, growl 3 times and then take a dump, you unlock a cheat menu that let's you get all the bones and play as any of the dogs

It was such an amazing game and still has a special place in my heart! Sometimes I'd forget about the missions, pretend to be a real dog and wander around. 😂
Apparently this game was gonna get a sequel called Cat's Life
I got this game when I was like....13..? Don't know how I got it, but I remember playing it after school everyday. I loved it. It got me through a lot of stuff.
I remember playing this on my jampack lol
God I remember this game and I LOVED this
Our childhoods were full of some strange games.. 😂
oh my ! I was 11 in 2003 ( 13 years before Dark Souls buddies !). It's one my madeleine moment : at this time I was very sick and I had played it all days long.
Even now (and I'm now 27 >
Jak and Daxter and Okami, yessss! They are my childhood. 😀
@@ToridoriGaming do you stream on twitch ?
Welp this WON'T be added to my PS2 collection. This has to be one of the weirdest games I've ever seen. Just like the Angry Video Game Nerd says "What were they thinking?!?". I'd say these developers have come a long ass way since this game.
I suppose they were on a similar track, the whole simulation genre, but their park builder games are much more refined. 😂
Jeez I too remember this as one of the most bizarre games I played
I remember getting so motionsick whenever i've entered the smell-o-vision.
I can see why, the FOV is so limited! And the way Jake's head moves with the motion.. :O
my favourite thing about this game was the collar changes everytime you went into the grooming parlour. i would actually go through that animation multiple times to get the collar i wanted wtf me.
hearing that guy say “i love my axe” actually triggered something within me...
My sis and I did that too! We kept going for the rainbow collar. :D
Same!
Rainbow collar ftw.
I was five and don't quite understand English when I played this game (I absolutely LOVE the game)
I didn't have difficulty in completing mini missions, I figured out the walking on ice part quite easily, the only one that I didn't understand at all was the sleeping bandit and the thief who would shoot Jake.
I want to play again, just to ace it and revisit childhood.
excellent review, such a talented and dedicated RUclipsr :)
Thank you Daniel!
Looks fun but yes, controls need to be super accurate for such platformer... Awesome review once again, Tori
Thank you DarshD!
@@ToridoriGaming You are welcome, Tori 😁👍
That derpy fella talking to the dogs
Lol I remember that ending though
"Miss Peaches... is... cat food." My at-the-time tiny little 11-year old brain struggled to process that ending!
I was oddly enamored with this game for like two days, called it grand theft dog. Doggie mischief is a pretty novel concept for a game, I wonder if anyone will revisit the idea.
Edit: Christ at that ending!!!
It's a fun little game, but there's not much replayability which is a shame! And that rhymes. 😎
I don't Remember seeing this in the states. It must of had a limited release
Also love the Sims-style love hearts at 29:31 always made me laugh
I think the sensors would have blown their tops if the lake wasn't called Lake minnewawa. It's really called, Lake Titicaca. That would have fit better than what they put in the game.
Also the guy who keeps sneezing, he sounds a lot like a more annoying Carl wheezer from Jimmy Neutron
I didn't even know that was a real place so thank you for enlightening me!
@@ToridoriGaming that's what I'm here for. ☺️ when someone know something then probably someone does 😂
Aw yes, 5 year old me definitely knew what good graphics were
Wow this was so nostalgic i have to play this game through again
And throw poop? :D
Toridori that’s literally what i did all the time as a kid i never realised how many fart jokes there were until hearing it again
Even when I cut stuff down it ends up being bloody long in the end. lol
Anyway, I'll deffinitely be binge watching your other stuff.
I love the details that the dogs feel like l
real dogs (but I know that the humans don't feel like humans xD) and I think this game is a forgotten gem that for the age it was released its an amazing game!!
I loved the Spy Kids 3D / Wallace and gromit references. Honestly couldn't stop laughing 😂😂
Glad you enjoyed it MoRiggy 😎
i didn't know this was real when i was growing up in 2000 because i grew up with the Ps2 but i didn't know this was real
That's a hell of an ending
Great video this channel is so underrated
Thank you Bruce! The RUclips algorithm hates me. 😂
I still have this game.
Still play it? :D
@@ToridoriGaming I haven't played it in years, but your video did remind me of it...
There needs to be a sequel
That would be cool, but what could they do differently? I suppose controlling multiple dogs would be awesome!
Toridori I guess since now they don’t sell ps2 games anymore they could make it for ps4
Such a good video! I freaking loved this game so much! So cheesy but mega fun
at one point as a kid i couldn't beat the finale (the cat food machine level) and after trying too many times i just started to cry out of frustration. my mother then thought i was crying because of the ending plot twist.
Yay some Toridori!
Did you miss me? :3
@@ToridoriGaming wimper.....yes..so much
Ah i was eagerly awaiting this :D I was NOT disappointed :D Loving these vids Tori :D
Thank you, Spikkle! Glad you're enjoying them. 😎
@@ToridoriGaming Totally, you seem to really enjoy making them too so its win win!
Oh definitely, it's so much different to let's plays. With them you kinda just react to what happens at the time, but with these I can give my own thoughts on the developer's choices and add my own jokes. "The power of Christ compels you!"
@@ToridoriGaming Exactly!! XD It's very entertaining to watch :D
I played this at one point, but never got far enough to play the last 2 levels. Oh boy, is that messed up 0_0
Another great review! And these 2 assholes in the track may be annoying, but your voice is fun to listen to, so don't you dare compare yourself to them!
I dunno, when I get mad at games I get pretty high pitched like Wayne... and my nose starts itching. 😂
Me: there’s one mission I haven’t been able to complete since I first got the game in 06!
Toridori: 24:16
ME:........
Sorry 😂
The ending scene was... unsettling
That game doesn't perfect, but it was fun. I think, without fart jokes, dark ending, and with a better platformer elements, a Dog's life 2 would be nice.
Good job on this Review!
Thank you Mr Wii!
I'm trying to find a safe way to emulate this game. What emulator did you use? And what website did you get the iso from? Btw I love these new reviews!
I used PCSX2 and I got the game from Coolroms :)
And thank you! \o/
This game !! I loved it so much 😂😭
Gotta poop on everything!
It sounds like karela don't want no one 101 Dalmatians
I played the jampack ps2 demo of this game. I remember not knowing english so the awkward dialog never felt weird because i think i never understood it. Looking back at my chilhood it got me thinking on looking up a review for this game i never owned but damn its a weird game.
Well, it's still kind of unique in a way. Not many games still let you be a dog.
Nice game, played it as a kid. Somehow i managed to complete it without understanding a single word (I am russian)
never heard of this game haha but I want it now.
It's super expensive last time I saw on eBay, $50 or so I think. Though that may have been one guy being greedy!
I have played this video game before on the PS2 but I never beat it. Looking back at something that was very questionable for a video game intended for children.
if you didn't use to bark at that horse in the farmhouse you did not play this game right lol
For sure 😂
Wouldn't it be funny if they did a remake😂
I want one now. 😂
You're gonna do more Medievil, right?
I do have one recorded, just got to get to it. 😂
man i remember i bought this game at Target because it was super cheap and i bought it not expecting to like it but i played that game for hours and i dont know if it was because i was so young or because i was just bad but i never finished the game and it still annoys me to this day
omfg that ending tho that bitch is straight up dead
Miss Peaches is... cat food!
Maybe we'll get lucky and people will fix this game in a remaster.
I doubt it will. It didn’t get very good reviews, though I guess it does have a cult following.
This game has a lot of environmental textures that are similar to _Zelda: Twilight Princess_
I've never played Twilight Princess but now I'm intrigued. 🤔
My sister has this game
Does she still play it? :D
