This is was one of my favorite games growing up but I was not a very hard to please kid when it came to games, but I completely hated the circus levels 😤😤😤
If I played this as a kid I'm sure I would have loved it... but still thrown the controller through the television set. 😂 And I agree about the circus levels, especially Acrobatty Dash - I think I had five seconds to spare by the time I finished it!
You know, looking back on this game, and how I rented the PS2 version from Blockbuster, true story, I recently thought of how this game should be remade. I would've called it "Rugrats: Royal Ransom Rebuilt". And while I do agree with you on fixing the camera and platforming issues, here's what I would do in terms of changing things up and making it (somewhat) better than the original. [MY CREATIVE ADJUSTMENTS/CHANGES] 1.) I'd double the amount of players for Story Mode and Multiplayer. 1-2 players for Story Mode (done via split-screen co-op) and 1-4 players for Multiplayer mode. 2.) Remove the life system from the "Baby Easy" and "Rugrat Medium" difficulties. The life system can be brought back for "Reptar Hard" mode. I'd also get rid of fall damage for those playing "Baby Easy" mode. 3.) Maybe collecting every small battery should unlock a bonus big battery, allowing you to progress further and further to the next floor. 4.) If you lose a challenge, you do not get sent down the slide of the Play Palace 3000 (That alone should just be a separate feature if you just wanted to slide down for the fun of it and explore the Pickles' household). If you lose, you'll be asked to retry, even on the harder difficulties. There could even be a retry option for those challenges, and maybe some checkpoints as well. 5.) A DLC level pack which adds an additional floor or two for the Play Palace 3000, as well as additional mini-games unlocked for free after your purchase. The level themes that I think could work would be Egypt, The Wild West, and maybe even something Pirate-themed. 6.) After beating the story once on any difficulty, Angelica can be playable in Story Mode. And on the "Reptar Hard" difficulty, you no longer have to collect coins to purchase lives. In fact, the life system would be gone, which alone could be a good reward in of itself. 7.) I don't know if this should be added, but maybe as an optional separate feature, there could be a spot in the Play Palace 3000 that would let you make your own levels for 4-Player local co-op fun (sorta like "Disney Infinity", but without the toys-to-life gimmick.). And maybe beating certain challenges can unlock assets for your custom levels like being able to use a moon buggy without running out of gas, or making a magic carpet race inside the circus tent, or anything you can put your imagination to.
This is the most memorable game I played in the Ps2. It's like I can remember every level and every sound and I played it when I was 5. Definitely one of my alltime favorites
Awesome review, Tori!!!! Too bad the game isn't, being yet another victim of shameless cash grabbing. I laughed at every funny moment and the editing was amazing. And what was Stu Pickle thinking, having to pay to enter any level, putting in hazardous stuff like lava in a toddler play area, and riddling the place with terrible platforming!!! And how is Grampa asleep for at least four hours straight!?!??? P.S. I have your Klonoa review on my "watch later" list at the moment. Honestly, its a little long, but I know that its just a juicer, meatier review waiting for me. It is a game I'm REALLY looking forward to getting!!! I wanna support you on Patreon, too, but I need a little while to sort financial stuff out....
Hey snailgirl! I never considered that Stu was charging the kids to get into the Play Palace, what a swindler! 😂 And don't worry about Klonoa, it's not going anywhere. I never actually intended for it to be THAT long but somehow it ended up as such. >_>
You don't really need to collect the gold coins just to prevent Game Over. I found this out by saving the game before accessing the level and if I lose a life, I can simply go back to my last save. The only significance gold coins have is to prevent having to collect all the funny money or batteries you've already came across, something that I mostly save for the end aside from the batteries. Most of your criticisms are valid (although I remember the GameCube version having less framerate issues) but for some reason, I can't help but like this game. It's one of those games that has problems but I still kept playing anyway because I was enjoying my time. Again, not a fantastic game, I just really enjoy it.
I can understand why you like it, and if I'd played this as a kid I'd have much more appreciation for it. I just wish they'd gone with a similar formula from Search for Reptar - small but fun mini games/levels. These areas feel unnecessarily huge!
Oh I just want to add - thank you for understanding my criticisms and not biting my head off! So many people seem to take criticism of a game they love the completely wrong way and get aggressive... it can get tiring when reviewing games, so I really appreciate the mature comment. :)
The only thing I do know about Rugrats is that, Chucky became an actual character when Kimmy came. Kimmy made Chucky more of a person. Before Kimmy, Chucky was Tommy's whipping horse of a friend I would do anything he would say. When Kimmy came, Chucky became someone I could tolerate just because anytime they did something, he would actually want to do it not because he was talked into it. Before Kimmy came, Chucky was just a pussy who would let Tommy force him into doing things he did not want to do. There's even an episode where Chuckie explains to Tommy how it usually goes when Tommy wants to do something, and even still he does what Tommy wants to do even though he doesn't want to. So I am glad Kimmy came to the show the show because it made Chucky grow a pair.
A very good review; this was the first game I ever had for my PS2. Doesn't hold up nowadays as it did when I was a six year old xD Nicely done; subbed and can't wait for the next video :)
Really awesome review! I love Rugrats! It was all the rage back in the 90s and my favourite cartoon at the time too. I still love it now and at one point the hype did get a bit too much for me but got back into this series about 6-7 years ago roughly. Who’s your favourite character in the series? Mine are Phil and Lil. As well as spike too.
As someone who played every level in this game, I can safely assure you that you haven't witnessed true pain and agony until you've played Moon Buggy Madness.
@@ToridoriGaming It was kinda fun, though as a kid it took me forever to get through it; remember, I had no memory card back then, so every playthrough had to be a complete playthrough.
7:40 When I saw this animation as a kid, I thought Angelica was flying. Or maybe she was, how else was she able to get to the top of the tower so quickly?????
I remember wanting this game as a kid along with Revenge of The Flying Dutchman. Instead I got the weird Rugrats in Paris ps1 game. With the kung fu Chucky level
It seems like a lot of collectithons started to experience the same problems when they made the jump to the PS2, mainly the levels being so large yet so empty. Enter the dragonfly was like this too. I believe the hardware limitations of the PS1 forced designers to come up with compact levels, which meant more thought was put into each square foot of the level since they only had so much to work with. Games could have just had the levels be just as small, but with more levels total when they made the jump to the PS2, but that would require coming up with more level themes and objectives. Also they all seem to have that frame rate issue too. When I was a kid though the big levels were why I loved this game so much. I would just run around and explore and each level was like a giant themed playground for me.
Do You Know Guys?, in Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway, Chuckie Finster & Susie Carmichael are Playable characters and Phil DeVille and Lil DeVille & Angelica Pickles are Chief Members and Tommy Pickles & Kimi Finster & Dil Pickles are Not Here in This Game 😭 BUT, I MISS TOMMY PICKLES IN THE VIDEO GAMES FROM NICKELODEON!!!!
To be honest, I would choose Easy each time I played this game especially considering that Avalanche Software likes to take stuff to the extreme. In the Tak series (because I haven't played any of the other Disney Games made by them), stuff can get real difficult especially towards the end or sometimes, it's poor game design/mechanics and controls Tak 3 for example, the Final Proving Grounds is an absolute NIGHTMARE! Sure it's got one of my favorite music tracks in the game, but the crazy A.I. and Bombardment of enemies and obstacles all while a timer is counting down and the fact that there are 3 sections getting harder as it goes on and the controls are trash especially in the turning because you're driving around in vehicles ramming your opponents. The icing on the cake? The reason there are three phases is because the Black Mist use magic to cheat and tie up the score if Tak and Lok are ahead for 2 phases. If you don't outscore the Black Mist in any of the phases, you will restart from the VERY FIRST PHASE regardless where you are. You won't restart at the beginning of the second or third phase if you get to that point. No, you will restart at phase one and work your way from there to not lose and sometimes, it's luck based. What the flying fuck is that shit?
I was actually thinking that the game was fairly easy and enjoyable for me because I always played easy and any difficulty higher made the games felt way longer
Before i watch this video I will say that I actually enjoyed playing this game as a kid. But playing it as an adult...i realised that man...this game is designed for young young kids XD I can still hear them snowmen saying "You can't get me" over and over again which got annoying XD
Definitely should play Beach Bandits! One of the few Nick Playstation 2 games I owned and waaaay too long and boring lol; was only till I was older and found the cheat codes :P
@@ToridoriGaming It might be nostalgia talking and my fondness for the soundtrack, but I thought the game was pretty decent (except for the final levels on Day 4)
Reading between the likely unintended lines of your cynicism (meaning my stubbornly predetermined perception), your review has actually increased my desire to give this game a whirl. I can't help but try to find every nook and cranny in most games, to the point of typically robbing myself of my own positive gaming experience, your negative opinion of the tedious requirements to dig so deep to progress through the game have peaked my interests. I thoroughly enjoyed your review. Thank you!
Part of me feels like I had this game, but I remember absolutely nothing from this. I don't know if that means I didn't have it or I've just scoured it out of my mind.
I love this review 😂😂 I've been seeing if anyone else thought this game was repetitive as I thought lol! I'm surprised you dont have more likes this was too funny lol
@@ToridoriGaming 😂😂 it's funny because we enjoyed it when we were younger but we always knew it was repetitive and tough lol we're so glad you reviewed it lol have you played the power puff girls relish rampage?
@@ToridoriGaming oh man, you should try it lol the gameplay is pretty tough because you have to lock onto items to pick them up (which is most parts of the game) you get timed on some of the pick up challenges which makes it more difficult, and it's really easy to bump into things on there. Like you can fly up a little higher but it doesn't really help much. I'd just love to hear what you think about it 😂😂 I don't think we ever beat it
I recognized that this game was made by avalanche because the text boxes are the same as the ones from the "Chiken Little" game (but having blue boards instead of red ones) Actually!, you should review the chiken little game, it's surprisingly competent ...and arguably better than the movie...
New sub here, got into your videos literally yesterday and really enjoying your content! Would you consider reviewing wallace and gromit, the zoo game for ps2? I remember adoring it but having a few levels that didnt complete and i never knew why 😅
Man that ending cutscene was so lackluster. Usually whenever Angelica loses in the show, she would throw a tantrum or at least seem bothered. Instead she was like "eh, oh well". This game is probably one of the worst things in the Rugrats franchise... next to the live action movie announcement of course. Great review as always! Hope the next game you play won't be too much of a slog.
You should review Rocket Power: Beach Bandits, which is based off the show Rocket Power, which is also made by Klasky Csupo. It came out the right around the same time as this game.
@@ToridoriGaming Despite both shows being made by Klasky Csupo, the games are made by different companies. Royal Ransom was made by Avalanche Software(Like you said), while Beach Bandits was made by Evolution Games.
@@ToridoriGaming It might be the nostalgia talking, but I think the game is pretty good. Definitely flawed, but pretty fun (I'm especially a big fan of the soundtrack)
>What could possibly be worse than an absolutely terrible game with no redeeming qualities? Well in my opinion, a forgettable game that is neither good nor bad. Therefore, Sonic 06 > Royal Ransom
realizes that from your rant near the start that it sounds like you don't like Metroidvania Type games which is sad but understandable I do wonder how you would like Ori and the Blind forest but it's a newer game
@@ToridoriGaming It's stunning and it can be hard depending on the difficulty you pick. It's better to play with a controller (I use my ps4 hooked to my computer but I think you can also get it on xbox)
I cannot believe the same people who made Tak made this pile of shit. Tak is an awesome platformer series I hope that's on your list! More people really need to talk about those games more! But back on the topic of this, never played a rugrats game, and now I don't think I will ever want to.
@@ToridoriGaming Omg really? You won't be dissapointed. There are two other games outside the main trilogy, The Guardians of Gross and Mojo Mistake. Never played those ones they're based off the TV show. But the trilogy is great. Keep up the reviews!
There are more Rugrats games then the two shown in the video. You should play and review them sometime. Try doing Rugrats Lights Camera Action first, the game is more forgiving and better then Royal Ransom. The character models look much better and the babies aren't scratching their butts when idle.
Ah, now, no need to get mad at people hypothetically finding it easier or doing it on harder difficulty. Sure, I usually did Standard Mode, the medium difficulty, for Kingdom Hearts games, but others would've gone for harder, like Proud or Critical. Nothing wrong with that, whatever suits you.
I've never understood why people have to be so elitist about difficulty settings. I do like a challenge but I will pick an easier mode to enjoy the story and mechanics, rather than die multiple times and get frustrated! So I agree with you. :)
I did not beat this game's last level, way too much shit going on. I just popped it back in after several years, couldn't even find an infinite health cheat for my action replay, no codes exist for this game lmao. Search for Reptar was a far better experience, at least the levels dont overstay their welcome. This game is just...ass and even somehow uglier than the other titles. Oddly enough I do remember liking the circus level the most, along with the snow level, but that's it. Framerates and platforming sections are horrible. Too bad, I wanted to like this game, but I only have like 2 good memories of it.
You know a game's unloved when there's no action replay codes. 😂 But yeah it's not the greatest game in the world. They had potential to make something really fun with the power of the PS2, instead they created a game that's far too long for what it offers; boring objectives and vast open levels of nothingness.
I can say that Easy was definitely the intended difficulty and they probably made harder ones just to get more older audiences. You're lucky to not do the medieval levels, even on easy those stages are the worst ones I've done
It was too much for Me and still is oml. BUT. And I’m a fan (hi nostalgia goggles !) but Ngl the sub level and renn levels suck. Moon was my fave --- the cheesy collection mission was 👌🏻 the rover was oddly fun, the space mechanic and jumping of the other space mission just made little me happy. I thought it was so cool that the harder difficulty unlocked more of the levels. I almost thought it was a secret. Except meanie genie. So hard. So unforgiving eeek (Cough and of course Dino rides and oddly enough the magic carpet - I loved the gems 🤣)
It took me months to beat Lion King I mean I cry hours on that game I finally got used to Lion King and then each time I played it I could beat it I don't know about now dad took me months of grinding
It's so eery seeing this game after (omg 18 years!?!) some of these levels I don't even remember remembering. There's apparently a multiplayer mode I could never get anyone to play with me that i'm sure were also pretty lame
man this is sad.....eh could you consider doing a review on legend of kai? its a forgetten ps2 game thats available on ps4 with the psn now...its on other stuff too i might do an lp of it if you do play it for review. PLEAASE dont do nightmare or hard it will ruin the game for you especially on the finale boss
Since this came out in 2002 would it be fair to say Overwatch stole some of these mechanics for Genji?

Or when you're in the main hub world, Angelica constantly screeching at you... >_>
@@ToridoriGaming also....How do these TODDLERS manage to do a somersault while double jumping!! XD
That Genji practice!
Marmike91 ... now it’s playing in my head OhNo
Definitely should play Beach Bandits! One of the few Nick Playstation 2 games I owned and waaaay too long and boring lol; was only till I was older and found the cheat codes :P
Is it as dull as the trailer makes it out to be or is it worse? 😂
Thank you!
Thank you for watching! Well you might enjoy it more than me, you never know. 😂
Yeah those ice shards that are dangling down are totally not dangerous at all 7:08
Rule with kids - don't acknowledge they're injured and they'll be fine, even with an icicle sticking out their heads. 😂
I will say that there were games back in the day in the 90s that were four kids that were hard Lion King was hard I did beat it though
True, MediEvil could be very tough. Also The Lost World: Jurassic Park on PS1!
Part of me feels like I had this game, but I remember absolutely nothing from this. I don't know if that means I didn't have it or I've just scoured it out of my mind.
Probably the latter, it's a fairly forgettable game tbh!
You get an automatic like for the Tremors reference.
Yessss you know what it's from! I'm really happy because I worry when I put references in nobody will get it, so thank you! 😀
I love this review 😂😂 I've been seeing if anyone else thought this game was repetitive as I thought lol! I'm surprised you dont have more likes this was too funny lol
It's nice to find someone with similar views on a game, I always feel lost in a sea of diehard fans when I make reviews like this. 😂
@@ToridoriGaming 😂😂 it's funny because we enjoyed it when we were younger but we always knew it was repetitive and tough lol we're so glad you reviewed it lol have you played the power puff girls relish rampage?
I have not played it, any good?
@@ToridoriGaming oh man, you should try it lol the gameplay is pretty tough because you have to lock onto items to pick them up (which is most parts of the game) you get timed on some of the pick up challenges which makes it more difficult, and it's really easy to bump into things on there. Like you can fly up a little higher but it doesn't really help much. I'd just love to hear what you think about it 😂😂 I don't think we ever beat it
Hey Tori which rugrat do you like the most? I like Tommy
I always kinda liked Chuckie, but Kimi is pretty cool too and they balance each other out. 😀
My late great granny bought me this game I forgot when. I still have it.
I recognized that this game was made by avalanche because the text boxes are the same as the ones from the "Chiken Little" game (but having blue boards instead of red ones)
Actually!, you should review the chiken little game, it's surprisingly competent
...and arguably better than the movie...
I was considering it 😀
New sub here, got into your videos literally yesterday and really enjoying your content!
Would you consider reviewing wallace and gromit, the zoo game for ps2? I remember adoring it but having a few levels that didnt complete and i never knew why 😅
because I played this with friends as a kid, I still find it fun.
When you confused the one Avalanche known for a bunch of licensed games over the other one that made the Just Cause series
Wait wait wait... Live action movie announcement? Is there NOTHING sacred!?
You should review Rocket Power: Beach Bandits, which is based off the show Rocket Power, which is also made by Klasky Csupo. It came out the right around the same time as this game.
I have it on the "to review" list actually! I'm not big on sports based games but I was a fan of the show. 😁
Toridori srry I’m such an idiot I completely forget about 5:12-5:20 when you actually saw a glimpse of fed game
That's no issue, I figured you'd said it because you saw that clip. It looks like an incredibly boring game. 😂
2:34 This is gonna be a little off-topic from the video, but the Toy Story 3 game wasn't too bad, which is surprising by movie tie-in standards.
I hoped they made at least one okay game, glad to hear! I suppose nobody can get Toy Story wrong though. 😀
1:09 Kimi's in this game.... the end
I loved this game when I was younger. I need to go plug in my GameCube
>What could possibly be worse than an absolutely terrible game with no redeeming qualities? Well in my opinion, a forgettable game that is neither good nor bad.
Therefore, Sonic 06 > Royal Ransom
Wow I was taken aback by how little of this game I remember. I must have blocked most of it out. XD
It's for the best!
realizes that from your rant near the start that it sounds like you don't like Metroidvania Type games which is sad but understandable
I do wonder how you would like Ori and the Blind forest but it's a newer game
I've heard it's quite tough but beautiful!
@@ToridoriGaming It's stunning and it can be hard depending on the difficulty you pick. It's better to play with a controller (I use my ps4 hooked to my computer but I think you can also get it on xbox)
Editing game is on point
Thank you 😎
I cannot believe the same people who made Tak made this pile of shit. Tak is an awesome platformer series I hope that's on your list! More people really need to talk about those games more! But back on the topic of this, never played a rugrats game, and now I don't think I will ever want to.
I remember seeing a demo for Tak and wanting to play it, so sure I'll do a review for it. :D
@@ToridoriGaming Omg really? You won't be dissapointed. There are two other games outside the main trilogy, The Guardians of Gross and Mojo Mistake. Never played those ones they're based off the TV show. But the trilogy is great. Keep up the reviews!
I could not for the life of me beat the video game jungle book
Eli: Glad i never play it (famous Quote ever) by me also request please those Tak games :'-(
There are more Rugrats games then the two shown in the video. You should play and review them sometime. Try doing Rugrats Lights Camera Action first, the game is more forgiving and better then Royal Ransom. The character models look much better and the babies aren't scratching their butts when idle.
Never heard of that one, I'll have to check it out!
@@ToridoriGaming I messed up on the title. The actual title of the game is Rugrats Studio Tour.
I feel like you should have combined the slow running with the cookie race music from Search for Reptar to make it even more annoying
Missed opportunity, oh man!
What’s the name of the Michael Jackson song at 7:41
Still waiting on that Shrek extra large review
I'm probably not going to play it anytime soon because I don't have a GameCube emulator set up. I've added it to the list though!
Toridori use dolphin it’s a great GameCube and Wii emulator
nostalgia 💯
When I was little I had rocket power skating game for ps1, I hated it
Ah, now, no need to get mad at people hypothetically finding it easier or doing it on harder difficulty.
@@ToridoriGaming Thanks. I totally get that. Long as you enjoy the game is what matters.
Oh man I hope you review search for reptar! I lived that game as a kid.
Me too, my childhood! \o/
Was that Kevin Bacon? 😂
Yep! I love Tremors. 😂
@@ToridoriGaming ur funny as fuck. no joke. 👌
But yeah it's not the greatest game in the world. They had potential to make something really fun with the power of the PS2, instead they created a game that's far too long for what it offers; boring objectives and vast open levels of nothingness.
I can say that Easy was definitely the intended difficulty and they probably made harder ones just to get more older audiences. You're lucky to not do the medieval levels, even on easy those stages are the worst ones I've done
the characters are looking uncanny bc they don’t have noses
@11:51 😂 so fucking funny.
😁
Royale ransom sounds like a battle royale game
Quick, make that! I want to see babies fight to the death.
@@ToridoriGaming Yes!
8:55 so Chuckie basically
How many copyright claims will tori get. *Dracula* 1 ahhahaha. 2 ahhahaha. 3 ahhahaha. 3 copyright claims mwah ha ha
Best comment 😂
I love this game so much.
Gonna play it when I’m home 🤣
It made me so mad! 😂
Toridori honestly. I’m so much older now and I still suck at the hard difficulty. 🤣
I wouldn't even dare touch that mode, Medium was a struggle for me at times. I guess I am a big baby. 😂
It was too much for
Me and still is oml.
So hard. So unforgiving eeek
(Cough and of course Dino rides and oddly enough the magic carpet - I loved the gems 🤣)
It took me months to beat Lion King I mean I cry hours on that game I finally got used to Lion King and then each time I played it I could beat it I don't know about now dad took me months of grinding
When a tie-in game is worse than Sonic 06
...Then again, multi-platforms on the PS2 often sucked.
Oh yes and I played the other one for Nintendo 64 that one was kind of boring it was like a game board type game
It's so eery seeing this game after (omg 18 years!?!) some of these levels I don't even remember remembering.
There's apparently a multiplayer mode I could never get anyone to play with me that i'm sure were also pretty lame
If it was anything like the last level... 😬
Search for reptar I played that one I forgot the name I never played this one
Can you review 007 everything or nothing for ps2
I'll add it to the list. :)
9:23 16:36 funny
man this is sad.....eh could you consider doing a review on legend of kai? its a forgetten ps2 game thats available on ps4 with the psn now...its on other stuff too
i might do an lp of it
if you do play it for review. PLEAASE dont do nightmare or hard it will ruin the game for you especially on the finale boss
Did you mean Legend of Kay? And if so I can add it to the list. :)
@@ToridoriGaming yes, oops yeah do so please
Ironically the N64 rugrats in Paris game looks better than this
Good stuff.
Thank you Dimension Gamer! :D
But I do have to say that was a lot of kids games that we're hard
atleast doing this review gave your pain purpose
Very true... but was it worth the suffering? T-T
this was soooo funny, i watched it twice.
Yay! :D
