Samsung didn't copy apple. Gwu takes is just the larger version of the galaxy gear sport. Also apples watches entire design is just a copy of Samsung gear 2, which is a copy of Casio calculator watch.

I'm liking the Galaxy Watch Ultra so far. But also noticed the HRV to be way off (very high) compared to my Epix Pro and Oura. Even the Galaxy Ring is higher than the others, but at least closer.

Really interested in this way of adding in perceived effort!

The support for external sensors really is a big thing. I am simply not going to switch to Samsung or any other Wear OS watch from Garmin until I can connect to external hrm without problems on those devices.

    • @TimothyBerkey

My Pixel Watch 1 connects to external sensors with no problem. Of course, I don't use fitbit, so the problem is not the watch but the software.

Just to be clear, as Des mentioned, there are apps that can pair 3rd party sensors on WearOS devices. We're specifically talking about native-level pairing of HR sensors, to ensure what is typically the best battery/cleanest workout recording scenarios. There are of course good 3rd party apps that do good things, but that opens up an entirely different can of worms. (-Ray)

@@thefitfile Got it. I actually watched the video out of order because I wanted to see the Watch 7 info first. Then, when I read this comment and replied to it, I hadn't yet seen the part of the video you are referring to (which I just finished 60 seconds ago). Thanks for the clarification.

I have SportyGo and Gear Tracker II apps installed, but I would prefer Samsung Health to support external sensors natively. Especially when they advertise power meter support on their ultra watch with LTE, but require to use your phone. Isn't the point of LTE is to be able to leave your phone behind?

Great video guys. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is considered a 'Cushion' design which is used in many high-end Swiss watches. The Panerai Submersible being the most recognized Italian watch. I would attach a picture if I could. I agree. I have an Apple Watch Ultra, Garmin Epix Pro 51mm and the Samsung Black Ultra with Orange strap. If Garmin would give me an Epix Pro 51mm with cellular it would be game over, but don't think that will happen any time soon. Keep up the great work!

Beware the Trail Band on the Ultra--there are several complaints/pics online about the clasp actually digging into your wrist. I'm returning mine because of that. I think I give up and will either switch to Apple for the first time in decades, or else lug my phone with me on my runs with a Garmin (I run isolated rural roads--no way am I going without a phone or Lte)

I have Garmin & Oura. If i have a bad nights sleep my Garmin will throw a “35” boom in my face. When Oura will say “don’t worry, 1 night is fine”. I think apple will go down the road with not fuzzing too much with one or two small changes from normal to avoid stressing people. And I for one would appreciate that 😊

Ok then, what is wrong with the HRV readings? That's the only thing that is a real dealbreaker for me? Where those high numbers come from? Can't be the HR sensor being that wrong at night...

    • @thefitfile
      @thefitfile  2 месяца назад

In my case, the HRV numbers are +30ms above their competitors. While Samsung could potentially be using SDNN instead of RMSSD, but that honestly wouldn't account for the massive difference (I can't find documentation yet on which method Samsung is using, but it's very likely RMSSD like everyone except Apple using SDNN). Either way, they're crazy high in comparison. Lots of potential reasons, could be the recording interval might be more smoothed, or some other reasons. (-Ray)

They must know about that measurement being totally off, the y copy Apple, for sure compare with Garmin....so how are Samsung's metrics supposed to look like? Definitely. By contrast I’ve just given my 5 year old Garmin Fenix 6S to a friend because it’s still a perfectly usable watch and still can last several days depending how much GPS activity you’re doing. I replaced with it with a newer Garmin because I wanted everything that my old watch did, with a brighter screen and week+ battery life

Galaxy design is pretty much the Galaxy gear sport watch from years ago with circle face and cushion. This watch looks like a polished watch, not a gadget like Apple.
Ultra has been used by Samsung for premium since Galaxy ultra 2020.
The orange color is going to be a thing for all diving watches due to it being easier to spot under water. Aside from the color, watch straps are watch straps.
Samsung was the first to popularize Smart watches 2 years before Apple had any.

It's funny, but I don't think it really matters if someone's copying a good design. How many traditional watches are "inspired" by old Rolex designs? It's like cars. They all start looking like each other after a while. These companies are interconnected a lot anyway. Samsung is still making a lot of Apple's components. Nice podcast

Honestly, it's a hard scenario for a GoPro due to low light not being it's jam. However, dropping down to 1080p is probably your best bet (1080p/30). That'll ensure you don't run into any overheating things. You can also force the ISO up a bit, which will help some. (-Ray)

This year I was decided to step up into big boys territory Epix Pro. Now, while I was waiting for september Fenix 8 / Epix pro 3 Samsung just came up with this Ultra with better rugged design, better battery, better sensors and Gps
And now I am in the fog : I love Galaxy smartwatch features ( answer call, answer messages, answer emoji messages, see photos messages, open my Tesla etc), and I love the new design
But also love even more Garmin more mature / manly design and future proof ( Samsung, as a tech piece is obsolete in max 2 years ). I am 47 and Garmin Epix pro look better for my age

No products should be talked about in a vacuum. I'm an extremely strong believer in that. The moment you talk about products without comparing them to the market/competition, you do users a disservice. If people like us hadn't complained for half a decade that the optical HR sensor & GPS on the Samsung watches was so bad compared to their competitors, then frankly, Samsung never would have fixed it. Just like how we talked about how Apple's Training Load isn't all that great compared to their competitors, else, Apple won't fix it. (-Ray)

In conclusion Apple come with the button and the straps only 🤣🤣🤣

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO disappointed to hear the word "disaster" in the GPS accuracy for the 7! I'm wanting a 2nd watch as an insurance policy for my aging Pixel Watch and was really hoping this would be the time Sammy got it right. I've seen lots of individual users who are claiming theirs is much better than their previous iterations, but who knows how much "testing" they've really done with it. This makes two of the three "big" wearable tech reviewers that I follow who have given it the thumbs down. Looking forward to seeing the full review of the 7, but won't be rushing to the store this week, apparently.

Over land such as MTBing or hiking all seems OK except for random incredibly high HR measurements.
