    Their personalities still on display. Magic looks like he spent 3 hours in the mirror getting dressed and Bird looks like his wife made him reluctantly put on a suit for the occasion. Priceless!

      So true my man.. It's the greatest rivalry/friendship story in all of sports in my opinion. They respected and admired each other because outside of one another, they had no one else to fear in the league. With no Bird in the league, Magic would probably have 8 or more rings and vice versa.

    • @thanksfernuthin

      +MIM Film and Video They are so absolutely different yet they both make you laugh just as much as the other. A truly incredible rivalry and example of exceptional athletes. If I could ask one question of Peyton Manning or Tom Brady it would be "Are you ready for the decades of interviews you two will have to do the rest of your lives?" These pairings are rare and Magic and Bird may well be the best.

    • @dgarcia73198
      @dgarcia73198 9 лет назад +7

      SuperMisteryMan01 the issue is not how competitive mj was, there's no doubt he was super competitive, but so are these guys, if you watched the 80's and early 90's NBA. I'm just saying, I don't think mj has gotten over the fact that he is no longer the talk of the NBA, I mean, we hardly see him in relax mode, I don't think he's fun to be with like Chuck, oh well, who cares.

    Listen to what Magic Johnson said:
    "We didn't care about scoring points. We cared about winning and making our teammates better."
    That's what basketball is. It's about a team concept. Also it was about loyalty to one team and both of these guys played for the same team their whole career. That is something that has left along time ago, and that's loyalty to one team. I miss these guys like crazy! They were so great for the game of basketball!

      John Mallernee - just so folks are aware - with guys like Bird and Magic - racism doesn’t exist. Stop watching CNN fake news. We all have way more in common than not. I know there will always be racism. But watch these guys play. Anyone that followed their career and later personal friendship knows they did more together unknowingly to squash racism than anyone else. I hated Magic. Bostonians HATED him. But ai know a lot of fellas that would probably tear up if they ever got to meet him in person. I know I would. Magic vs Bird. Bird vs Magic. You couldn’t script this for a movie any better. Love this interview. They have a bond they will share forever.

    I grew up in the 1980's and saw Magic's Lakers duke it out with Larry's Celtics MANY, MANY times. There was never a dull moment. It was clear, even back then, that this was going to be the battle of titans. Just look at the lineups: Magic, Larry, Kareem, Michael Cooper, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish and Dennis Johnson all in the Hall of Fame. Also, both coaches: Pat Riley and KC Jones also in the Hall.

      +jensibowable he's not last lol. He's the 5th best player of all time and it's very close (except MJ) I just think that Kareem, Magic, and Wilt are slightly better players. MJ is the greatest athlete in American sports history, so no debate on that. But you can debate the rest. Here the rest of my top 10 btw
      6: Shaq
      7:Roberson
      8: Duncan
      9: Kobe
      10: Hakeem/LeBron

    Magic's MSU team that won the NCAA title also had Greg Kelser and Jay Vincent in addition to Magic, all three became NBA players. MSU clearly had more talent but Larry was a better player back then in my opinion. In any case, both Larry and Magic belong on any all-time NBA starting five, both were so great and complete players.

      ***** Greg Kelser was a helluva college player and deserves a lot of credit for making that MSU team as great as it was. Jay Vincent was outstanding also but Kelser was a great college player in my opinion. Larry didn't have anybody near as good as Kelser or Vincent on his team.
