    Everything about her from head to the tip of her toes, from body posture to the simplest of hand gestures. All that carried her uniquely distinct signature style is amazing and full of grace. For this and many reasons more I worship and admire ... Forever idolized Marlene Dietrich.

    I watched this program a few years ago, and her rendition of Gigolo is so poignant. The look in her eyes was heartbreaking, She was unsure for what seemed like the first time. She had always been able to manipulate the world around her completely and mold it into what she wanted. That was no more. Her situation reminds me of a Dr. Who episode where he was about to turn and said that he didn't want to go. He was scared. Dietrich was not like May West. She didn't believe that she still appeared young. Like they said MD considered her persona to be an illusion. She could no longer keep it up with smoke and mirrors. I think that she became a recluse because she could not bare to be pitied. I can relate. If all my friends were my friends because they pitied me, I would rather be miserable and alone.

    Maria Riva as Marlene's daughter would obviously know far more about her than we do. I love her book about her- it acknowledges her pros and her cons and is very honest. I would be very suspicious of any book that tooted Marlene as perfect- she definately wasn't. I do love her though- she lived her life the way she wanted.

    Naturally that nobody is perfect, my father was saying "the perfect ones are the perfect idiots". It was clear that she had faults, as anibody. In those years it was not thought very much about the protection of animals. What I was admiring in her was the interest in the human beings and that to defend a point was going on to the action. In spite of her "glamour" it is said that the personnel of the studies wanted she for her good treatment and when someone was ill she was helping personally.

    The war was not initiated by either France or England or America. Naturally, after a war starts, it is always bad. The difference lies in the fact that the Allies are self critical but Germany believed blindly in their right to commit the crimes he committed. I have read several biographies of Marlene and beyond what was eccentric and its image for the film and entertainment, I always thought she was a very human woman.

      I think it was André Heller. I heard it many years ago and thought it was extraordinary. I’ve never heard it since, though I have searched. I think it may have been subject to a legal ruling and subsequently suppressed.

    She could not sing, she could not dance. She was all makeup and image. One asked what was the attraction. Why so popular? Well, we have the same thing today...Paris Hilton, The Kardashians, the list goes on. But Dietrich had something none of these skags have...that's mystic, character and intelligence. Dietrich was much more than a fad...she was unique.

      Narcissism creates longevity. Not being able to love, and be hurt, saves people from those nasty emotional upheavals that are so unhealthy.

  • @Sergio26495
    @Sergio26495 12 лет назад

    Marlene had a sense of ethics very special, for example, never wanted to take up residence in Europe to evade taxes, because he felt that if a country will also have to pay big salaries to pay the taxes required by law. He said "But here I can earn those wages, then I must comply with the law."

    The "last photo" was taken by her grandson Peter Riva over christmas in her house. As for the flags on her cofin. She was a "Legion d'Honneur" so she had the french flag for her funeral in France. She was flown to Berlin and came off the plane under an american flag. She was then laid to rest with a german flag on her coffin next to her mother (and the sister she denied she ever had). The cemetary is primarily jewish, and the photographer Helmut Newton is a couple of plots away from her

    She would have deeply regretted if she'd been taken in by the Nazis, as this would have tainted her image forever.

      She was more than one person and as a consequence had more the one persona.She had genuine screen charisma but clearly wasn’t the best mother.Fans either cherry pick the lives of their beloved icons or they see them for what they’re,talented performers with flaws who can sometimes believe in their own legendary status .I mean -lest we forget that she publicly denied even having a sister lol 😆 ...

    • @vicenterosales1226

      This daughter received the support of her mother in everything she wanted to do, but she dit not have the beauty, talent or charm of her mother. Now, very subtly, she tries to dirty his mother' name and tries to get money out of her memory. Actually María does not say anything that was not known; however, Maria does not say that Marlene supported her in her marriages, nor does she say that Marlene used a large part of her money so that the daughter and her family took a life train that they could not pay. Aftter her death, Marlene did not leave much money, but Maria sold her property for $8 million; but Maria wanted more, and published her dirty memories.
