yeah i turned it on in battlefield 5 on my gtx 1070 and my framerate immediately plummeted down to 40fps and i wasnt even on the highest settings. was cool to see tho
The stutter is a DX12 issue in BFV. I get locked 144fps but with bad stutter on a 3080 Ti with no ray tracing if I use DX12, but I get no stutter if using DX11. It goes away after a few hours of playing. It's an issue with streaming assets. Also, the poor quality "low setting" reflections are cube maps, not screen spaced. That's why they look awful and aren't dependent in on screen objects.
@@pf100andahalf Same. Even though I can get 90-120fps with ray tracing and ultra settings, I just cap to 144 and use DX11 instead because it's so much smoother. Nothing ruins the experience like experiencing a massive stuttering during a shootout.
It's actually more likely related to shader compilation. All devs should make it so they are compiled immediately at the beginning, like in recent CoD games
The reflections at low setting on bfv are actually baked, which means that they are not real time at all, so that is why you can still see them when things are off screen.

Kryyzp, I had never seen you test control before, and I always wondered why since, even on a purely rasterized pass, its extremely intensive particularly with the Physics interactions and deformable objects. Also, the Battlefield 5 situation is weird. It doesn't just use RT, it also has a render to texture pass with foliage, so trees etc arent actually handled by RT reflections but by planar reflections instead
"If things are off screen they should disappear if ray tracing is not enabled" , that's not necessarily true. what you are thinking about are screen space reflections , which aren't the only way to do reflections. most of the time games use cube maps to do reflections, which don't disappear no matter where you move your screen. but inturn they are very low quality and static.
