    Firstly I don't think a huge chunk of urban india is anti modi. I think the urban elite which is a micro minority is definitely anti modi and they hold positions of power, influence and reach and hence it feels like their ideology percolates down but urban middle class and lower middle class and urban poor are definitely pro modi! His approval ratings are in the 70% range which is massive!

      He is just an apologetic centrist. Minority feeling insecure, like really? not 2nd largest majority. Only one community feels insecure (and librandus). These people do not want to acknowledge social policies like jandhan, jal jivan mission, health insurance, toilets, awas yojna etc. that's why people from rural/semi-urban areas vote for him. Its not just promises but modi govt has delivered those. Why not talk about waqf act, subsidies for haj and places of worship act then people like ranveer become cowards to speak anything and so called minority starts feeling insecure!!

      What he meant by “urban India” is people of his class. Generally rich and affluent people who are totally out of touch from ground situation, follow West blindly, feel Holi is waste of water and Deepawali isn’t eco-friendly but celebrate Halloween and they don’t care if petrol prices get to ₹200 per litre. 😅

      Perhaps you can explain to me "Internet First"? I get that the internet is creating a culture that is somewhat different than that of individual cultures but I don't see how this translates to "Internet First". "America First" just means that our politicians are not focusing on the concerns of the people who voted for them and we want them to and also the preference of buying products from our own citizens. And it doesn't mean we don't recognize "First" for other countries. I admire Modi so much because he puts India first.

    As an American that stumbled on this podcast due to RUclips's algorithim, I'd be very interested to hear Indian views of the world. Your podcast is really good. This guest is real goodalso and has nailed us pretty well. As far as our political structure, it's going to take a tremndous united effort from the people to dislodge the Washington D.C. power structure back to us. It's been there since our founding. There are intense malevolent forces that want to destroy the American Dream. It is my opinion that were close to a another major terroist attack due to our open border crisis that'll make 9/11 look like a speed bump. I'm also convinced we'll have some kind of civil war or a balkinization. All I have is hope that'll good turn will come. I want peace and cooperation both inside and without the US. It's a tremndous effort for the average American to rise above the lies and deceptions.I humbly ask that you guys send us good/positive prayers in these dark times, please. I'm as average as an american can be and try to live in a way that doesn't trouble others. Please don't repeat our mistakes. Learn from them.

      I think that when the 2024 election comes to the US many will get a big surprise. Most ppl are pretty “normal” people just give voice to the most extreme or ridiculous. This guy is talking about America being the furthest left…. No. This is folks who aren’t out in the communities and look to D.C. or whatever is on the news without thinking of the millions sitting here watching and they have come out big to vote in every election post Trump probably until the extremism is propelled out. This Israel-Hamas war shines a spotlight on the “far left” which is l believe more regional. And there’s more than just party reasons why certain folks won’t vote for certain Republicans recently. Most ppl actually say they are Independent…. And he sees China on an upswing while the West is declining. Hmmm 🤔 ok.

      Does it have to be a zero-sum game? It seems like corporations are the enemy here. Is there any way that India can help support small/mid size business in America with the return being requiring the businesses to somehow serve Indians? There are a lot of great caring Americans who didn't go to Harvard, Yale, or Stanford but it is mainly just people from such places who get to set the agenda, and they fail. Somehow let the rest of us participate. The problem with big corporations is they often get too influential with the Government and the government makes all kinds of conditions with them to the corporations favor. If the government focused on small/medium businesses and help the American middle class, where surely such people would want to have a voice and should have a certain insight into helping India they won't be able to dominate Indian politics (because they won't be able to donate or vote). Also if American Middle class can see the benefit of helping India out they would be advocates for India. The Government has to be firm, and have to set the terms, but what all entrepreneurs want is just to make some profit and the opportunity to grow. You don't have to give them everything. You can set stuff like a minimum wage and encourage them to franchise with Indian citizens. But as long as they can still expect to make something and build something they will come. I would argue that what helps countries are as many people who can control their own destiny as possible and if India can be a hub of entrepreneurship and encourage entrepreneurship among its citizens there is no reason why it could not become the focus of the world going forward. But it won't get there by a concentration of wealth as that is what ultimately brings capitalism down.

      As an Indian who has one foot in the US and India, Balaji’s position on many geopolitical views is quite skewed. He utters a lot of what hardcore crypto guys talk about which is de-dollarization. Since he’s quite ready to throw the US under the bus, I wonder after moving to India what he may say about Indian internal issues. He also portrays the US to be this bully & self serving, but one should come to the realization that China as a world super power would be a worse scenario for India.

    Balaji Srinivasan is genuinely intellectual; it's a joy to hear him put common-sense stuff into an iron-clad logical framework that the most bull-headed of contrarians would find hard to argue with. Common-sense is surprisingly hard to impart, but Balaji does it with elegant eloquence that comes from a habit of thinking things thoroughly through.

  • @magicsaint
    @magicsaint Год назад +3

    Srinivasan is incredibly well-read about business, history, politics, etc. From my experience as an Indian growing up in the US, many educated Indians are still not aware of detailed world history. So many of his references here will probably not be well understood by most listeners of this podcast. For this reason, I think it is imperative for most Indians, especially the young ones, to read about world and financial history and current affairs so they do not end up making the same mistakes as other countries did/do in such an incredible growth stage of India. His reference to the all-in podcast is a must-watch to get a perspective from 4 very smart entrepreneurs/investors of not only how business works but also how the world works. On the flip side, most Americans are ignorant about the world as they have been fed the nonsense about being the best so they do not feel the need to be well-informed about world affairs. Don't be like them!
