Ive been into pottery lately and even have my own wheel. Ive been practicing and practicing and feel confident enough to have my own business! My parents arent very supportive of it and have been wanting me to go into the medical field because that will help me make better money. Ive told them that I want to be happy doing something I love (ever since I was a little girl I was always hands on) I just need my kiln and some other things but my parents dont want me to get that stuff until I have a job in the medical field. Them saying that and doubting that I will go far with pottery makes me sad but I am going to make it happen one day and that day is growing closer and closer. I am going to be happy with my pottery business and they will see that I am able to support myself!
Your story is SOOO very similar to mine although you're way more advanced in the social media aspect than I am (just getting started). Liked and Subscribed!!!
Hi Kara, my story with ceramics came from a coincidence. When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a painter, but I wasn't sure of myself and I didn't immediately enroll in art school. When I came to the reception for the painter, the teacher at the time hurt me greatly and said that I was untalented. And so I ended up on ceramics. The first time I sat down at the potter's wheel, I knew it was for me. There were a few silly situations when I was turning, I didn't attach the bowl well to the wheel and it flew under the professor's feet. Heheheh Now that I've finished sculpting at the Academy of Fine Arts, I'd like to start the ceramic world. I just honestly don't know how to start. I fell in love with your work a year ago. I really like the energy when you talk about ceramics. I would like to have my first ceramic wheel and I would like to feel again the love I felt the first time I sat down at the wheel.
Great video. Thanks for it. When you love something, and GO FOR IT, its not like work in an office or in a hospital or something. It is love, life, peace, harmony, ... Its a dream. My dream is to earn a little bit money with it. I hope it will be come true. Anytime.... And so a big THANK YOU for this vlog and your ultimative POTTERY CLUB 😍
Thank you so so much Manu 🙏💜 I really appreciate you watching it. I was a little nervous about sharing it tbh. It’s a little vulnerable. You’re absolutely right tho! Find something you love and it doesn’t feel like work. If it is possible for me, it is possible for you too x
Thank you for sharing your story! I'm taking the leap with my pottery business and just came across your video. It's so encouraging to see others who are living the dream!
Tnx kara for sharing your story, you've been always inspiring to me🧡.... I'm a ceramist in Iran, working in tile industry upand I wish I have my own garden studio one day.....
Thank you for sharing your story. I agree with your friend, we only live once, why don't we chase what we want to do in life. I'm working on my dream too to make a living from writing. Start with freelance writing and I want to have blog and make business around it 🎉❤
Happy Day Kara ! I just watched this video into your Pottery Journey. It was so wonderful to feel like I met you the amazing artist of which I just purchased your Pottery for Beginners book. I am not sure about what or where this creative side of me will journey - perhaps I will share some joy that I will experience with clay. I am venturing into to this craft later I guess than most at 61 years old...still working at this time. I feel so blessed by your courage to follow your dream...you have a gift for sure. Kindly, Lynette
Hey Kara! Thanks for sharing your story. I have just started to get into pottery myself, and have been looking around yt and social media to learn more about it, your inspiration has motivated me to keep pursuing pottery.
Thank you Kara, i love your vlog. It is nice to hear about beginnings of other potters. I would love to do pottery full time one day but I am just collecting experience now. Thank you again
Thank you for your lovely video and sharing your journey. I am so excited and scared, mostly excited, to be starting my dream towards becoming a potter (as a single mum a bit scary but I am determined!) Your book has been so helpful too. Currently trying to figure out how to cover the carpet in my flat to make a little space to create at home. All the best
I started 8 years ago. I am 22 and started pottery in 8th grade. We were only able to do handing and I don’t think we even had a slab roller or extruder. I loved it so much but I left the toxic middle school I was at. I went to a different school but they didn’t have ceramics as it was a small private one in one school. There is an art center that is 3 or 4 blocks away from my house. I go there now and have been for the last 7-8 years. Covid was so rough since I couldn’t go in and do pottery. I’m enjoying it so much more now though. Waiting to get a slab roller and hopefully a kiln soon.
HEY. I really enjoyed this video. Just found ur channel. I am on a similar waypoint in my life. I wonna quit my job for pottery. Scaring and exciting at the same time.
Love this! I started pottery last year and fell in love with it. I bought myself a wheel and it’s true how much faster my skills grew with practice. Thank you for sharing your pottery space with us and your story! My biggest hurdle was thinking that my friends and family would think I was a bit off my rocker dropping a good job to go all into pottery before I had even been doing it a year 😬
Thank you Molly 🙏 I felt exactly the same! But my friends and family were nothing but supportive. I don’t know your personal situation but I suspect they will understand your love of pottery and want you to be happy. I wish you all the luck in the world.
@@Fluffy-777 still going strong! I’m looking into moving to a studio outside of my home. These few months between Christmas and March are usually pretty slow but I’m focussing on a new spring collection and challenging myself to make a full dinnerware set for my house in between wholesale and custom orders
Loved everything about this! Currently in a similar situation (giving up a mind-rotting office job for a more creative endeavour...) Also, I think I might have just found a second pottery channel to follow religiously ;)
Your vidio was so inspiring especially to people just starting out I fell in love with pottery when I was about 8 in the hop fields of Kent making clay things from the clay mud while my parents were hoping picking Tom earn a living I have had stop start career finances and children slowing things up and like you a few bad things I still love it and it is very hard I built my business up and then COVID sweept it away so onwards to new ways of selling good luck with all you do thank you
LOVE your vlog! It was fabulous to learn about your journey and also totally inspiring to hear how you made the decision to follow your dream. It takes so much courage to go out on a limb and follow your dreams. As you say - we only get one shot at life! 🥰 PS - love Flora (such a sweetheart) & PPS - you should re-audition for the "Thrown-down" - you are a natural in front of the camera!!
Thank you so so much Sharyne 🙏 I appreciate you watching and being part of Pottery Club ☺️ Flora is such a cutie! She’s my little pal. Ha ha!!! I think I’d be better at the camera stuff now but I don’t think you can be a professional potter to get on the show. I’m just waiting for a pottery club member to apply!!! 😃x
Such an inspiring video. You've done amazingly well ❤ can i ask the approximate cost of firing your kiln each time? I'm contemplating getting one in the future. Many thanks, Becca ☺️
I have a dilemma with my cottage which I rent but maybe able to buy in the next 12 months. I paint and at the moment I have a spare room but my painting is getting messier and bigger including found objects and need a studio like yours. I am trying to see whether I can afford to build a studio at the back as a strategy to keep this cottage. If you do not mind could tell me the size of your studio as it looks perfect and how much it cost please.
