The girl who gave you chills is Song SoHee. She is a gugak (traditional) singer. Honestly she is an amazing and emotional performer, yes there was real tears 😭
The explanation of Arirang is something that really sorted me out in regards to BTS’s music. It was almost like I had received an answer to a question I’d had without knowing it. The quick tempo of sad songs, the depth in layers of meaning - even the insistance to not explain some songs, letting them be left completely up to a person’s individual interpretation based on what they feel in themselves when they hear it. I find all of these ideas come from some deep roots in a people that would nurture a song whose constant versatility itself acts as a badge of their cultural inheritance.
I LOVE your comments here! 😍 Thank you! (I felt the urge to go on and on about Korean values, beauty, art, and BTS, but opted to just capitalize the letters L-O-V-E.) 💜Borahae! 💜
There is just something magical about Arirang that every time I hear it, in almost any of its forms, tears well up in my eyes and I'm not even Korean!! LOL btw, the traditional singing that gave you chills is called "pansori" and the garments are 'Hanbok.' Finally, I really REALLY recommend you watch an artist called So Hyang perform Arirang live on Immortal Songs, she is absolutely incredible! I've seen so many vocal coaches on RUclips react to her and they are all just floored! LOL Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/zFyndK9VOCk/видео.html
I got chills like you, Landon. Never fails... it’s the voice quality that emanates from their traditional technique, and the passion that comes thru it, with all the underlying yearning. When people keep adding their own lyrics to a folk song, it just goes to show the depth of their ownership. Appreciate that you watched this explanation video. DKDKTV really do a good job on such cultural stuff. Hope some new ARMYs have learned something from it too.
This was really interesting, I never watched that explanation video before. I really love the arirang performance, the dance moves, their voices in that lower register, something about that song...it’s very captivating. Perhaps some of you reading the comments might have suggestions for me...I’ve been perusing Netflix/RUclips/Hulu for documentaries or something about Korea and/or its culture. Not having much luck! Other than a couple NK documentaries. If anyone has any recommendations please share, thanks ARMY :)
ByStorm's YT channel explains Korean culture thru BTS soooo well. Here's my fav about IDOL and Korean independence & culture ruclips.net/video/TA5X24c2FhI/видео.html

Can you recommend a couple trot songs? I’ve been wanting to check some out haha
You gotta see the song and performance of "Wednesday" by BTS and Gfriend! It's a bit cringey but I think it's cute too
FYI BTS are included in their official National anthem song MV too. 💜💜💜
I said this once about Arirang “It makes me patriotic for a country I don’t live in”
Idk which video you put that comment on, but I read it and it stuck in my memory because it expresses my thought/feeling as well! 💜😊💜
I love this song
