It seems like spying on students like this could discourage students from finding mental health resources online because they worry that information will get back to the school administration, (even if this belief is false).

What happened to the video quality?

When schools routinely defund counselors to keep their "Resource Officers" on campus, I feel free to question just what kind of help the schools using these programs are going to offer their students. Particularly those students from underserved populations.
I also have zero faith in school administrations claims of wanting to cut down on bullying. They want people to shut up about bullying, which is not the same thing at all.

7:25 $99,603 for a 6 month contract? That money could go way farther if they just paid for people's mental health treatment and fixed systemic issues in the school system.

Exactly. Like "lunch debt" if a kid cannot pay for lunch they don't eat. Why is this even a thing?

I had an argument with my son’s principal today over the Remind app. I read the user agreement. They and their 3rd parties want total access to your phone and the phones of everyone in your contacts and call list. It also records you at any given time. There’s no way I’m downloading that.

Just talk to kids. I wish people would just talk to kids and listen to what they say.

Not only do I feel they shouldn't use monitoring software, I don't believe cheating is a bad thing.

Sometimes I feel that a well written test makes it so that cheating just isn't worth the time or effort. I have had tests during the quarantine where teachers and professors allowed us to take the test with open-note and open-internet. Having access to these resources might help you complete parts of the test, but if one relyed on it too much, they would run out of time to finish the rest.
So unless you know the answers to the test before its given, I don't think its worth it overall to risk being caught.

Sadly these results are thoroughly unsurprising. AI is very evidently still a work-in-progress and it's exceedingly naive for schools to think it's a no-downsides solution... not to mention the privacy concerns.

I mean, even if AI worked well, this is pretty much "let's make all our student paranoid in order to improve their mental health!", it's just flat out dumb, if not ill intentioned.
If students aren't informed of the surveillance they're under, it's a huge breach of what little trust they might have, which can't be great if your plan is to offer support on mental health. If, on the other hand, they are informed, than they'll either police themselves or bomb the system with "concerning" content. Either way trust and sincerity goes down. This is just bad.

      @@user-sl6gn1ss8p Yeah, somehow I don't think it's not intentional.
