I cannot thank you enough for producing this video. I have had major focus problems with movies, and your tips made it very easy for me to correct the problems. thank you so much!!
Thank you so much for this! I bought my t4i second hand in May, and because I am getting a 24mm lens, I really wanted to learn how to do the auto focus during movie. I have looked for hours on how to do this, and I can't thank you enough for this. I couldn't find another as good as this, so thank you so much!
Very instructive videos, Dave, thank you. The 650D is my first DSLR with these fancy modes (the one before was a 400D) and it is nice to watch a video of what I have been trying to figure out for myself during the past few days. Zs
Thank you for this video, I just purchased the Rebel t5i and have been struggling on how to focus properly. It’s a pain in the butt trying to make vlogs with it sometimes.
Strange World Archives I think you are confusing the word vlog. A vlog is not sitting in front of camera telling a story. A vlog is moving around, from place to place, showing different environments.
Hello Mate, thanks for these productions really helpful. A request, white and gray focus board, setting exposure, white balance and AE lock.. Most stuff we do is 'gun and run'.. TA in advance..
yes it does work on the 600D, I have just tested it. Have a look at this from the ML website: To change the focus pattern: Set your camera in photo mode, non-LiveView; Look through the viewfinder and make sure the LCD display is off; Change the focus pattern with the arrow keys and SET; you may or may not receive visual feedback.Press the Zoom In button twice to see the current selection.
HELP.. I bought this camera last week and when I record video, the sound doesn't record?? I just hear noise when I play back the video on the camera or computer.. is there a setting I need to change to record real sound?
Nikon has high autofocus noise than Canon. You can go for Canon with STM lens which are completely silent or If you want to go for Nikon, use external mic.Takstar is good cheap external mic...
Is there any way you can focus on two things with Canon 650D. For example on two dogs sitting next to each other? - When I focus it focuses only on one dog, and other is blurry.... Anyone help?
I believe if you increase aperture f stop to f8 or higher It will give higher depth of field and both of the subject will be sharp. This will also make the background sharp so you will loose the bokah effect. Sorry correct me if I am wrong. I am trying to figure out if it's possible to choose multi-point focus square.
+LookRain im using the kit lens, 18-55mm. Maybe thats the problem? I also hear this clicking/churning sound in my camera whenever its trying to autofocus now, and it wasn't like that before.
I bought this camera 3 weeks ago and would LOVE to RETURN IT! The AF is terrible even with the new (18-135) lens. I have a bad feeling this thing will be for sale in a few months.....yes, it's that bad!
If someone could help me I'd really appreciate it, I'm not very good at tech, but I use the Canon T5i to film with, a while back I messed around with some settings and screwed things up big time. After a while I was able to get my camera back to it's old settings, however, now I have trouble with focus! I use auto focus and whenever I'm focused in on something, I'll be talking and the camera will suddenly get blurry for just enough time to make my video seem unprofessional, but it's only for like a second. It'll do this over and over and over again. It's becoming a real problem for me. Can anyone help me figure this out? :/ I use the regular kit lens if that helps at all.
hey Dave, just wanted to stop and say thanks because you dont know, but this is one of the first tutorials i saw when i first bought my canon t4i a month ago. it was very helpful and taught me better than school would have. So thanks for that, if you want to take a look at the work i do now check this short film i recently made /watch?v=4ktzeaQX5G8 hope you like! cheers mate
I have found the video function on the T4i to be utterly useless. You can hear the lens, no matter what lens is used. Ok, some are quieter, but so what? This camera had a huge promotion from bloggers because of the supposedly great video... when it's garbage. On Auto focus there is CONSTANT slow refocus going on, no matter which method is used. This isn't of any practical, or even basic home use, unless filming landscape perhaps. In any other setting the noise and refocus make it useless. I have cheap pocket cameras that do the job 1000 times better. Turning to manual focus might be an answer, but it's impossible to tell if anything is sharp until you have it on a big screen. In other words, using the T4i for video is a waste of time and money. This video does show how all of the function work though, he does a good job of that. He also does a good job of illustrating my point.

Well, a DSLR is not a vlogging camera.
Dee Dee says you,
Says everyone. It's designed for photos and amateur filmmaking, not vlogs.
Dee Dee i don't see anyone else bitching..
Strange World Archives I think you are confusing the word vlog. A vlog is not sitting in front of camera telling a story. A vlog is moving around, from place to place, showing different environments.
Just got the 650D, your vids are a massive help...
Great explanations, simple and direct.
Thank you so much, I can finally focus on myself in front of the camera!
thank you, this was very helpful. I'm grateful you made this.
Great video! Very easy to understand. Does anyone know what camera Dave is using for the close-ups of the camera's display?
Hello Mate, thanks for these productions really helpful. A request, white and gray focus board, setting exposure, white balance and AE lock.. Most stuff we do is 'gun and run'.. TA in advance..

Is that Autofocus noise sound common for all DSLR or only nikon has high AF noise than canon?, pls clarify me..thanks

Any chance you can do a short vid as i cannot get this working?

This helped me a lot! Thanks!
dude this helped a lot!
My canon 700d's autofocus is not as quick as before. Any reasons for this?
+tatorials different lenses would have different AF ability, did you change to another lens?
+LookRain im using the kit lens, 18-55mm. Maybe thats the problem? I also hear this clicking/churning sound in my camera whenever its trying to autofocus now, and it wasn't like that before.
tatorials that sounds like a lens problem. Maybe you can borrow a lens from your friend and try it on your camera?

If you wanted to manually focus, why did you buy T5i? you should've gotten T3i.
+Dee Dee I actually figured it all out now. I love my T5i :D

That's a great tip, thank you for taking the time to write. I will try it tomorrow.
Try using STM Lens
Are you Saul Goodman?
Nick griffin had a change of career lol
omg the background noise is so annoying!
Those kids screaming in the background is annoying, just place to shoot a video ?
You need a mic... Can't hear shit.
Probably not clever enough to turn the sound up
