That spam account is back impersonating me. You didn't win anything. YOU GET NOTHING.
We deserve nothing
You responding to my rat appreciation comment is a prize in itself, even if it was only because of a bot. 🙂uwu
I got SPAMMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reported his ass.
ha you should be honored you're getting spammed like this. when ya gonna review dishonored???
I can't believe that the world has developed in such a way that this is now only the second longest video I've watched revolving around the video game "Messiah"
He just couldn't let me fucking have it
your mom must be very proud
... B-but that would mean you haven't watched the "Ross's Game Dungeon" video about Messiah that is 55 minutes long! That can't be right!
@@demizson576 What? They're clearly referencing exactly that.
@@s3dchrI think he means Hbombs video
used to be absolutely fascinated by the ads for this game in PC Gamer when I was a kid. We didn't have a computer that could run it, so I could only imagine exactly what kind of mayhem I could commit in a game where you literally possess your enemies. Thanks for covering this piece of my youth!
One thing I had forgotten over the years that I believe goes well with your comment is just how so many game devs went about handling themselves during interviews, behind the scenes vignettes, etc. It was all profanity mixed with the stereotypical 'dudebro talk' of the time, and maybe a little about the development process or upcoming game. Watching the old God Of War featurettes really blew my mind. One of those guys actually said, "Playing GoW will get you laid." David Jaffe is one of the few would could pull that off in a genuine type of way, or maybe he was being completely genuine but he still knew when to dial it back a couple notches unlike so many of his peers.
A game being able to get someone laid is what kills me the most I think, especially from back then lol. The guy should have mapped out some logistics on how that would work since a game back then maybe could help with the whole process provided they are present or some type of significant other. Or, maybe that guy was being literal as if playing the game instantly gets you laid, like spiritually somehow? (Sorry to go on and on out of the blue here, but I'm actually very normal)
I came here to say exactly this. I still have that EGM issue, and the score didn’t stop 6th grade me from running my wild imagination on how freakin cool this game could be
So you grew up and became a political, so you can "possess" other people and make them do what you want? 🤔

The rat roundup never fails to put a smile on my face
Yeah, a good replacement for bitter recompense.
GOOD
i laugh every time
YES ITS MY FAVORITE SEGMENT
From The gang of Squeaky Eight (8 fancy rats) and myself, this is our favourite message on the Citad... *ummm* ....youtube comment field ^^
Genuinely shocked you've never heard of Wild 9. It was one of my favourite games on the original Playstation. Mostly because it allowed me to mercilessly torture my enemies for hours on end, while my son was too occupied playing Wild 9 in the other room to even notice the screams...Anyways, great video! 👍
Wait, what
Oh great... Wait
Lol well played
I had more than one demo disc with Wild 9 on it, and rented it more than once as well. Not a great game, but memorable
Holy shit dude
love that 20 sec bit about that sound designer getting roblox to remove a stolen sound sounds like a normal every day thing and I am sure there is nothing else going on there
I think he was called Timmy Talledega or something. All I know is that his mother's very proud of him.
Tommy Tallfriend. Super chill guy beloved by everyone who’s dealt with him
Tammy talkingman. Apparently his mother is very proud
The world needs a hero like you to cover Giants Citizen Kabuto.
I thought I was the only one who remembered that game. It was odd...
I love that weird game. I need some RUclipsrs to cover it
I remember discovering a trick in multiplayer where you could place buildings high up in the sky, specifically that tower with the big disk-like walkway around it, and would then place teleporters on it and gyrocopter spawners, usually right over the other teams base. It seemed like the coolest thing ever, until a week later when someone did it to the team I was on... And not long after that every single game devolving to which time could rush to spawn-camp the other with flying fortresses.
I apologize for 13 year old me single-handedly ruining the Giants Citizen Kabuto Meccs vs Meccs meta. XD
One day I intend to replay it and finish it without Kabuto getting stuck in the scenery.
...and Sacrifice!
Chad, Parapug, Rat Roundup… these elements have become such a wonderful anchor for your videos and I genuinely look forward to them every single time.
felt genuine hype when the Rat Roundup came on screen
I get excited for every Rat round up.
The enthusiasm with which Grimm says "Ooo, ghosts!", is so sincere and it makes me smile every time.
Grimbeard is an anagram of Grimebard. This makes too much sense.
The real revelation is "Grim Bread".
Whoa
Pro Bard's Tale when Grimmie?
P.S. Grim's fingernails are on point.
this game has lived rent free in my head for a long time. i remember reading about it so much and wanting to play it, but i never had the chance. thanks for doing this. i saw some kings field there too. as always a great time watching your videos.
The community you have created is really admirable. I'm glad to be a part of it, and your music is legitimately top tier. Cannot wait to see your future creative endeavors
That's awesome, I'll just need your social security number to make sure I get to the right site
Their game Sacrifice is still great today. Also note that Shiny employees Nick Bruty and Bob Stevenson left the company to form Planet Moon Studios with the same development principles as Shiny
I had totally forgotten about this weird game, but seeing Bob again, it all starts coming back. Game magazines were fricking weird in this era. Thanks for bringing these old memories back Grim!
It's pretty rad that Satan is also the guy that let's you into The Lodge in Harvester.
You should really talk about Giants and MDK. Shiny made so many cool games.
Giants WAS made by the same creators as MDK, but they moved to another studio by that point.
Your uploads have given me an all new appreciation of Sunday, great stuff like always!
Messiah is up there for me as one of those games I love the look and concept of, and which I'll go back to try and play through every few years or so when I'm reminded of it existing, but I'll never finish it or even get all that far in the game before something makes me stop and then delete it a few weeks later.
I have only ever seen accursed farms talk about this one before. Excited to hear your thoughts with it aswell!
Was trying to remember how this fever dream of a game had come up before. Had a feeling it was my other plug for obscure PC games I missed while growing up on a farm.
You and Accursed Farms go so well together. Like wine and cheese.
I really enjoy AF's vids where he goes into some breaking news, it's so damn hilarious and equally well-informed.
Gahdamn: stunt advertising from Y2K and the surrounding years was _wild._
This game, BMX XXX, Burnout; *the entire Vidya Babes Maxim issue..* certainly more I cannot remember..
sacrifice is the best game ever. the moment at 4:17 made my blood freeze for just one second. i was about ready to commit crimes
also i really really dig the visuals that messiah has going on. environments, characters and that funky wobbling effect. just right up my alley
not the baby though
Your intros are so underrated. They've all consistently been funny and entertaining for YEARS. The one that introduces the Kickstart getting exploded is still my favorite, though.
amen
Which episode is that?
@@RoshDroz It was the review for Area 51.
@@rossmarshall566 thank you sir /ma'am! Probably sir, cuz we're goth gamers here and God knows there's more men
28:19 was the best laugh out loud moment I've had watching these videos. Especially your non-chalant delivery right before it happens 😂😂😂
46:05 I love that little vibrating Werner-Herzog totem. Feel like I haven’t seen it in a long while. Glad he’s alive and well!
Hell yeah. Love your style and writing.
Glad you covering this game. Played the demo as a kid to no end. Possessing people and nailing them to walls with a cyberpunk harpoon gun was pretty revolutionary! If you find the time check out "The Devil Inside" (2000) and "From Dusk Till Dawn" (2001)! Both have a similar jank but fun gameplay and story around it!
Seconding The Devil Inside. That game is so awkward but has a fantastic concept.
The Devil Inside is a perfect game for Grim to cover :)
The demo seemed like the coolest thing. Glad I never actually got it though and my older brother instead picked up Giants Citizen Kabuto.
Geist (2005) for the Gamecube is another possession game.
god I love your reviews, theyre so consistently exactly my brand of humor, and your vibe is so soothing to my little gamer ears
Used to love that game when I was kid , thanks for making a video about it
Thrilled you are covering this one! Thanks dude!
I absolutely love the farming footage behind pug during the spoiler break. Thank you for showing it and I hope you, personally, enjoyed it. 🥰
I came here for the farming and was not disappointed.
Absolutely outstanding content as always! Every facet of your gems, from the writing, to the performing, to the production and editing is world class. Thank you for everything you do Grimbeard ❤
New Grimbo video, day saved.
Best Rat Roundup! yet. Keep em coming. One day, Grim Beard will review every single video game to ever feature our fuzzy scurrying friends. I pray for this day.
I had this game when it came out and was far too young to play it really. It was a fever dream ill never forget.
When I bought a Sound Blaster card back in the early 2000s it came with Messiah, Deus Ex, and Giants: Citizen Kabuto. I think that might have been the best software bundle I've ever got.
Damn.
been here since 18k subs, so excited to see you about to hit 70k!
Another killer vid. Hyped to see whatcha got for Spookie Month my dude. Thanks for the Patreon updates and Twitter updates keeping us in the loop. Love ya duder.
I completely burst out laughing during the Rat Roundup - Thanks dude, you proper made me giggle, they catch me off guard every time.
what a holy event. we are graced with this video today. blessed. praise be.
I have been binging your videos and trying to see what felt familiar about your humor and it hit me, finally. The energy is making me think of the goofy little quiet moments in Metalocalypse. Not that you are a copy or anything. I love how original you are and your takes always feel fair and thoughtful. Thanks so much for covering these games. You are a gem. A sparkly, goth gem 🖤🖤🖤
I remember seeing this baby is game ads but never saw the game in stores. wow. Also your reviews are always peak comfy.
Tommy Tallarico liked this video.
I wish we got something like this today, but like they originally envisioned it. A dystopian cyberpunk GTA 5 kind of thing with possession as it's main mechanic. There really aren't many games nowadays with possession as a mechanic.
I love so much that you read the patreons names, i always stay, smiling at the creativity of all that weird, weird people
Great game that most don't know about.
Nice seeing you covering it.
This was an awesome vid Grim! I remember playing this game when it first came out back in the late 90's on the very first decent PC I ever owned. Messiah was so weird but you have to give them credit for creating a game that's so far outside the box.
I was wondering why this channel was being so consistently reccomended to me on Ross Scott videos.
Glad I dove in, because your style rules.
Made my day to see you uploaded Grim, hope your living situation is figured out.
"Closeted girl gamers"?? Are you kidding me. That hit me right in the chest with like an identity I didn't know was mine.
You are special sir. A++ video. Glad you're here doing this.
The fact that this game of all games is the origin of Roblox's "Oof" sound is ridiculously funny to me.
"There are few sounds I dislike more than a child talking"
I feel you.
Every time the jail bars fell down in this video I was reminded of the Malignant ending
Why is this channel so good?
Also, absolute champ always saying the entire patrons.
This is so good. Your descriptions and analogies are both funny and informative. The editing is perfect too.
This game was hard to run back in the day... unless you had the absolute cutting edge hardware of the era, when released, it was a bit of a slideshow. I think this is why the game intrigued me as much as it did back then. Looking to play it with a voodoo 3 I think at first, then various GeForce cards... It took a while before it would even run well enough to determine if it WAS a good game or not. But the title stuck with me for whatever reason. Never have gotten far in it... but now and again I'll reinstall it... try it out... get nowhere... and quit for years once more.
Its gimmick with the LOD's were that the poly's could infinitely auto scale. It made it a weird, always warping looking, odd sorta look though.
LETS GO SOME GRIMDARK GRIMBEARD GAMEPLAY
It's always nice to have Chad hop in and give insightful tips, he's a keeper.
This game seems like absolute peak 90s
I wonder if this game inspired the (also mostly forgotten) GameCube FPS game Geist. That game had similar mechanics of possessing people for combat and puzzle solving.
Also I'm a big Fear Factory fan and I had no idea their music was in a game. Demanufacture is a badass album.
I gotta say, Grim you are the funniest creator on this website.
I really love how you goof around but stay on point with your review. Greetings from rapidly marching to dystopian South Africa here bro👊
Nice, an upload from Grimmy Da Beard. Your humour is infectious... For real, I've started doing it, and now I'm probably on a potential serial killer watchlist.
Frick, 14:40 is the funniest thing I've seen all year. I'm glad I actually watched this one rather than just fall asleep to it.
Grim, your portrayal of gamers as a lifeless husk will NEVER get old to me! Hope you're doing well sir.
Many, many times I dreamt about playing that game. I had tons of game magazines i went through before I actually had a computer as a kid, so once I had one, i put on the demo and i was really put off by the controls. Verticality, overall vibe and that initial cinematic is what made me finish that demo, but i never went and play the whole thing.
That being said, whatever review you out, it makes me go "oh, i remember that one!" It's like taking a trip down a memory lane.
Keep it up, you're only person I have that stupid bell icon notification on, because i saw every single video you've put out, and i just don't want to miss new one
First saw this in The Game Dungeon and it's been in the back of my head since. So happy to see Grim cover this with his twist on things.
Today I learned that the cutscene after you kill Prime is meant to have audio. I played this when I was like 11 years old and thought it was just meant to be nonsense.
at 15:00 it looks like satan is an old man on a video call who doesn't realise that he's on mute 😩
(thank you for another banger review)
Nice timing with that "put that down". I was holding a banana. :D
I hope your channel keeps growing. I Love your shy humour.
I played an arcade game in the 90s(?) with this possession concept called Avenging Spirit. I really enjoyed the concept, and the theme tune was a banger.
I come here to remember clubbing in the late nineties in Philly when Friday was the designated night for misfits to get long island ice teas and buy drinks for goth girls who aren't interested in them.
It does sound kind of cool.
Once again showering praise on a new video from Grim! 🙌🏻
The hovering gag at 8:50 critically hit me with the funny. I just exploded with laughter. 😂
What a breath of fresh air your channel is, buddy. Unique and weird, in a good way. Unfortunately, I live in a third world country and cannot contribute financially since the exchange rates would blow my rectum wide open for an unfathomable number of galaxies to see. Anyways, would you ever consider covering STALKER: Anomaly? It's a total conversion mod that gelled all 3 STALKER games in one pretty nicely. Ironed out most bugs and inserted new features like faction wars, more quests, difficulty and so on. Cheers
Did you already cover Giants: Citizen Kabuto? Such a cool game. Never finished it but twenty years later I am still using "I can't think straight with these hunger pains" line on the regular. Something about the game and characters just stuck with me.
This is one I have hesitated to ask about in the hopes it'll just pop up in my feed one day. It's such a weird, unique, funny...SINGULAR game from Interplay, of all companies. I'd say it's worth tracking down and finishing, if you haven't.
When you're doing a video on Martian Gothic?
I remember playing a part of this game at some point when I was younger but had no memory of anything in it at all apart from taking over bodies and getting ejected from them.
There's something about its concept that's appealing in a game. Taken seriously, the idea could be made into something very interesting. Though I doubt anyone is interested in bringing back this IP anytime soon.
Thanks for the great video Grim.
You have unintentionally awoken the memory of Wild 9 within me.... And oh my lord, I still have it!!! Time to boot up my Playstation. Thank you Grim. If I end up haunting you, I'll leave you cutesie post-it notes as well as the nightmarish ghosty shenanigans
you have a real talent. I had never heard of this game, I have no desire to play it, but I was 100% entertained for the video's entire length. I know you hear it a lot, but I appreciate what you do and hope you never stop 👍
Watched Ross cover this game quite a while back, but I'll never pass up the chance to watch you make goblin jokes for close to an hour.
The put that down moment never fails to get me, every time that time code comes up I pick up my phone or something and I always forget about the joke
You know you’re an entitled, spoiled human when you’re disappointed with the length of a less than-an-hour upload from Grim Beard.
You are a content machine- and likely the best content creator on RUclips, period.
"THE BABY MADE ME DO IT, MISTER PRESIDENT!"
It's so bizarre to hear reviewers criticizing the game's plot and tone. Like that one that was like "the setting is grimdark to the point of self parody." Uh, yeah. Yeah it is. Very clearly _intentionally so!_ I mean am I the only one who thinks it's obvious that the game isn't trying to take itself very seriously? Go find a video [at your local walmart] of the cutscenes of Bob and God's conversations. It's clearly a comedy! Despite taking place in a cyberpunk-ish dystopia, it's not Blade Runner, it's goofy and absurd and it knows it. It's not a mistake, it's not an error, and I am confused how any reviewers managed to be so confused about this.
I mean, christ, you might as well criticize Robocop for its satirical ads and over the top to the point of self parody bits. It's not a bug, fellas, it's a feature!
Well, critics claimed Starship Troopers (the movie) was a fascist movie... So you know...
@@-Zakhiel- Yeah. It's bizarre how stupid some folks are.
Shoutout to the JO crystal joke, 10/10
My first thought with this game is Geist, that early 2000s game where you were a ghost that could like, possess stuff in the environment to spook people, then possess them to spook their coworkers right outta their mortal coil with bullets. Fuzzy memories of renting it on GameCube as a kid then watching a playthrough as a teen
I just wanted to let you know that my girlfriend and I absolutely love your "Rat Roundups" please keep doing them!
The ads for this game in print mags is more burned into my brain than the game itself. That dumb cherub baby was everywhere gor what felt like a year or more in gaming mags. Wild 9 was also everywhere in ads but I remember liking it quite a bit.
My brother once told on me to my mom (in a self righteous Christian attitude) after I downloaded the demo of this to my PC. I think I was 8 years old at the time…I never got to play it 😫
RUclips has been my only experience with Messiah between Ross Game Dungeon and Grim.
Love you Grim
I'm shocked you had never heard of Wild 9. It was actually a pretty fun game.
I remember having the demo on a demo disc, when that was an awesome part of gaming. Came with some magazine, and I played the hell out of that demo.
Yes! One of my favorite games as a kid too! Thanks for another amazing video
Messiah ™️ - “I’ve seen his dad’s tortillas”
"If it didn't cost a million bucks on eBay for a copy of a game I don't care to own... ... ... ... I'd be owning it right now!" 😆
I swear, these reviews get funnier and funnier as time goes by. And the games keep staying as obscure and interesting as ever. Messiah is such a fascinating title, even if - as far as Shiny's 3D stuff goes - I have never been able to play it that much. It's hard af for some reason. Wild 9? Brilliant. MDK? Brilliant. Messiah? Nah, can't handle it. My PC wasn't great at running it back in the day anyway and now it's a pain to get running - gotta love PC gaming, I swear, lol. But I really do love game worlds like this - it's right in line with Project Eden, Anachronox and Slave Zero. There's just something about chunky VooDoo FX 3D Accelerator-era graphics trying to craft a dark sci-fi dystopian world that looks rad as hell. I loved watching Grimbeard take a tour of this one (and also loved Ross Game Dungeon's vid on it awhile ago too. I think this one just works better when you're watching _other_ people go through it)
I really, really want Grimbeard to cover Omikron: The Nomad Soul sometime now for some reason. I don't really think the games are similar, but there's something about these early 2000's grimy dystopian future worlds in games that gives GB such good ammo for commentary - plus it's weird. Also Geist for the Gamecube, since that FPS is about body-hopping to solve puzzles (and I remember a puzzle involving possessing a dog, so I'm sure there's probably one involving a rat in there. Another one for the rat round-up, probably!)
25:56 "UNTIL YOURE PART OF THIS TURBO TEAM... *WALK. SLOWLY.* "
I love this channel so much that I thought, “oh hell yeah, a new Grimbeard video.” And then I thought, I’ll comment on RUclips, which is a pretty abhorrent activity, but I just wanted to let you know someone out there who wouldn’t normally do such a thing is doing such a thing.
Now I just need to finish *my* game so I can make money to subscribe to your patreon.
Two years ago I was two years ahead of the game. I smell a new tattoo
This is the final warning to stop living in my walls, please Grim Beard
