Are all C18 columns the same?

The C18 column is widely used in an HPLC analysis. There are many column manufacturers who manufacture C18 columns.
Many times, pharmacopeia or monographs may not specify more details on the column to be used for the analysis. So, how one can conclude on a C18 column to be used?
