At the age of six and seven, Angelina had her very first studio performances, singing "Rolling in the Deep" and "I Who Have Nothing." However, it was at the age of eight that she gained viral fame by winning Norway's Got Talent. Singing old-time classics from artists like Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Ella Fitzgerald, she became one of the youngest vocalists ever to win an international Got Talent show. Her rendition of Screamin Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You" at the age of nine is considered one of the best performances by a vocalist of that age. She is truly a prodigy.
By the time Angelina was eleven, she recorded her album "It's Magic," which consistently charted as one of the top 10 best-selling jazz albums. In 2019 and 2020, at the ages of thirteen and fourteen, Angelina once again gained viral attention on America's Got Talent: The Champions. Her unique versions of "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" impressed not only Simon Cowell but also earned her the golden buzzer from Heidi Klum. The surviving members of Queen also praised her performance. Perhaps most astonishingly, Angelina sings in English, her third language.
During her earlier years, and especially after her America's Got Talent performances, multiple record company executives took notice of Angelina's talent. However, her family declined their offers, prioritizing her education and a normal childhood. It wasn't until she turned fourteen that a contract was signed with Republic Records, marking the start of her career. Between the ages of eleven and twelve, Angelina even composed her first three original songs: "What is Life," "Oslo," and "Shield." In November 2020, at the age of fourteen, she released the song "Million Miles" as a tribute to her late maternal grandfather. Why does Angelina perform barefoot? It all stems from a promise she made to herself at the age of six. While traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, they encountered a young orphan girl who had no shoes and had scarred feet. This girl weighed people with scales to earn money. Angelina gave her own favorite shoes to the girl, and when asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, the girl said she wanted to be a doctor but couldn't because she had to take care of her siblings. When Angelina was asked the same question, she said she wanted to sing for the world. The young girl promised to pray for Angelina. Since that day, Angelina has performed barefoot as a reminder of those less fortunate. At the age of nine, she even wrote a book about this experience titled "Between Two Hearts," becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway.
Aside from her music, Angelina is known for her charitable nature. She has helped raise millions for children and environmental causes, mostly from performances at fundraising events. At the age of eight, she even pledged to donate her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to children in need. She has performed for heads of state in various countries to raise money for charity and during the pandemic, she was seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. Most recently, Angelina performed two shows in Las Vegas on the same stage that Elvis Presley graced for many years. Her new song, Princess of Ruins, is a tribute to the young girl Angelina gave her shoes to when she was 6 years old. This should be Angelina's anthem.

The 'random' foot shot relates to emphasizing the reason why she always performs barefoot. When she was six years old, she met a little orphan girl in the middle east begging on the street. They got into a conversation and , as it was cold, Angelina noticed that the girl was barefoot and had scars on her feet. Angelina gave the girl her favourite pair of green boots and promised the girl she would always sing barefoot until all the children in the world could have shoes. The little girt told Angelina that she would always pray for her. She has performed barefoot ever since and continues to do that 12 years later. @@josecamacho3393 There are strict child labor laws in Norway, children under 13 are not allowed to work or perform and get paid. But they can perform for charity. Since she was 8 years old, Angelina has performed for charities all over the world, from the US, UK, Europe, Brazil, Singapore, Korea, Japan, etc.

Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. The first thing she says is that she wants to start, followed by her saying she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. Oh boy, you are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Even though she has been compared by many to Amy Winehouse, her major influence is Billie Holiday. Other influences are Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Etta James,Whitney Houston, and Adele to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. In 2014, she entered at age 7 and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, "Wow, what a rendition!" For Queen to respond to someone covering one of their songs is quite a feat since they rarely react to anyone. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity.
Now 18 years old, living in Los Angeles, and currently signed with Republic Records, whose clients include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake to name a few. Angelina wrote new lyrics for two famous songs by Amy Winehouse, "Back to Black" and "Rehab" since it was inappropriate for a preteen to sing the original lyrics. For "Back to Black" Angelina wrote the new lyrics in the 24 hours prior to the recording, then needed just two takes.

Her Granma played Jazz around the house and by 2/ 3 years old she was scouring you tube with her mom's iPad for all the jazz greats , she taught herself to sing and you just witnessed the jazz master at work the band affectionally called her the boss. AJ, at 9, performed her own arrangement of Jay's early shock rock send up, returning it to a jazzy,, bluesy, song of lost love that he had originally intended it to be without losing his intensity. Phenomenal performance by the girl of a thousand voices showing one of many unique voices she has done that respectfully incorporate much of the original singer while staying true to her style and voice. Born Jan 10, 2006 in Oslo Norway. From her audition on Norway’s Got Talent (2014 - age 7 - Gloomy Sunday "Billy Holiday") through the final on America’s Got Talent The Champions (2020 - age 13 - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road "Sir Elton John") and the 130+ videos in between you will not be disappointed. This includes three originals song: “What Is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” Since then she has done many new covers and now her new singles "Million Miles" and “7th Heaven”, along with her movie soundtrack "Mercy" from the motion picture “The Hating Game”. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.
This song has been covered by many singers, but it took a nine year old to most closely capture the spirit of Screamin' Jay's original. Singing barefoot is sort of her trademark and there's a wonderful story as to why she does it. When she was 6 years old her family was traveling in the Middle East. Angela came across a girl about her age working on the street. The girl had no shoes and was trying to earn money by asking people if they wanted to find out their weight on the bathroom scale she had. Angelina started talking to her and when the girl said she had no shoes, AJ took hers off her own feet and gave them to the girl. AJ was so moved by the experience that she vowed to perform barefoot until all children in the world have shoes. Also since then she has performed at numerous charities that benefit children. She's now 18 and and is known as the Barefoot Princess.

Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz," amongst many other names. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina says that she really loved her shoes, as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them. But she saw the other little girl’s need for them, which outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them.
Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle, but the ruins of a building next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world, "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true, you have to remember the poor children without shoes; and I will pray for you Angelina.” Later that day, 6 y/o Angelina wrote in her diary, "The world is very strange. Right then and there, I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.”
From that point on, Angelina takes off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world, who are orphaned, hungry, or in want of even basic clothing. In 2015, at the age of 9, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter, as everyone continued to ask why she sang barefoot. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, created the artwork for the book. So at 9, Angelina Jordan became the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina has performed alongside many other artists, raising attention and helping to raise over 21 million euros and millions of dollars for children in need.

1. Gloomy Sunday, her 2013 audition to Norway's Got Talent, when she was 7, which was aired in 2014 and then immediatly went viral.
2. Fly Me to the Moon, live on The View, was her US debut later in 2014, and also went viral. It gathered more than 37 Million views on RUclips, and many more on Facebook.
3. I Put a Spell On You, the song where Screamin' Jay Hawkins got his nickname from, has 11 Million Views so far. Her cover is closer to his original than most well known covers of it. She was 9 years old here.
4. Feeling Good, in a version sung on TV in 2016 while still being 10 years old, though she already started to perform the song in public about a year earlier.
5. A Million Years Ago, one of 13 Adele covers she did, as an impressive acoustic home studio recording.
6. Shield, from 2018, was the third original she relased that year at 12 years old. It is about the protection and support she gets from her family.
7. Bohemian Rhapsody, in her own stripped down arrangement on AGT the Champions Season 2, wowed everyone, including the group Queen themselves, who twittered "Wow, what a performance of Bohemian Rhapsody!"
8. Million Miles, which she wrote and produced together with Stargate, is about the loss of a close person (her grandfather), and was the first song she released 2020 with Republic Records.
9. 7th Heaven, her 2nd song with RR from 2021, is encouraging people to persue their dreams, like she did.
10. Suspicious Minds, done 2022, is an Elvis cover as unique as Bohemian Rhapsody was.
11. Love Don't Let Me Go, her third release with Republic Records, and the first new song on her recently released EP "Old Enough" of total 6 new original songs.

Thank you for discovering Angelina Jordan. I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on RUclips, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener.
This is Angelina's tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below,
(a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
(b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
(c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
(d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
(e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
(f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted.
(g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song.
(h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time.
(i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word
(j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
(k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying.
(l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella!
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Nice reaction, Mike. Angelina won Norway's Got Talent at age 8, the year before she recorded this masterpiece. She performs barefoot after meeting a shoeless girl in the Middle East (her family has ties there) at around age 6 and giving the girl her own shoes. She does this as a reminder of their meeting and of the plight of poor children. I think you'd also like her cover of Elvis's Suspicious Minds, which she released a couple years ago at age 16. At the beginning you see her something writing on a sheet and a man reading it and smiles than.. in an interview this man, who was the "bandleader", said, this were some "wishes" from Angelina (she was every time very polite he said) for changes of her arrangement for the piano 😃

In addition to school she got also vocal training at the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program (I read, that this school said, they couldn't teach her more stuff because she has all learned what she could learn in this school ;-) ) - and btw. she plays also grand piano, violin, flute and guitar, make her arrangements herself, wrote a book, sew clothes for herself (partly with art from her grandma like in her first AGT performance and in her music video "Shield").

It is indeed perfect. However just to point out it is not a live performance. It was clearly recorded in at least two takes as can be seen by two different microphones (a condenser mic and a ribbon mic?) in two different rooms - one in the studio room with headphones and one with the band in the open space room with no headphones. Given she is so young this was a sensible choice. It is clear Angelina is running the show here, she calls the shots, just watch her focus on the band’s timing, music is in her blood!!

Someday maybe we will learn the details of how this music video was produced (or at least get some raw footage of it shot by her grandmother). Yes, clearly the visuals were captured in multiple takes (more than just two, since we can see the piano player in a reflection in some shots of her but only the piano keyboard with no player in other shots), but there's really no telling how many takes it took to capture the audio. Based on what I know about how her other early studio recordings were done, I would guess that the recording session this music video purports to show actually did take place (by which I mean, most of the shots of her singing were actually from takes that were being recorded for use in the final audio track, whether they ended up being used or not), and that she really did record her vocals as the band played "live" in the studio (because that's how she recorded, for example, "Back to Black" at 10 and her _It's Magic_ album at 11).
To be a little more specific, I would guess that she did a small number of full takes with the band and then did a few "pickups" to perfect certain parts. A few shots stirke me as being solely for the benefit of the camera, including the moment where she sings "puttin' me do-o-o-wn" at the shotgun mic and the whole floor-mic portion. But I've said it before and I'll say it again: if I were to learn that this entire vocal was in fact captured in a single take, I wouldn't be at all surprised, because I know what she could do "totally live" at this age and younger. (Well, OK, maybe a little surprised…😁)
@@DonaldLancon As a videographer, I can almost guarantee that the audio is one take. Inserting video from different takes onto a contiguous audio track is easy, whereas 'splicing' different audio tracks together, particularly when it's music, is not something any editor I know would look forward to. I imagine all Angelina's "live in the studio" videos are put together using video from multiple takes from different positions over a single audio track to give the impression of a multi-camera setup. The audio is no less live but the abrupt transitions favoured in most music videos can only be achieved by using multiple cameras recording one take, which is complicated by the fact that camera operators have to avoid 'seeing' each other, or by one camera recording multiple takes, which is also the cheaper option.
@@alanoakley3242 I totally disagree about the audio. Splicing together multiple audio takes - especially if it only requires a handful of edits, which is probably what we are talking about here - is pretty trivial if you are working with digital audio, which they certainly would have been using in a small studio like this in 2016. Perhaps you are thinking of music captured in "ambient" audio in, say, a concert setting. _That_ would be difficult to cut together from different takes. But not vocals captured in a recording booth, as shown here.
Anyway… after finalizing the audio, cuttting together multiple video takes to match that track would be no more difficult than doing so with audio captured in a single take in the beginning (since at that point it would be indistinguishable from such a track).
IMO, a much stronger argument against multiple takes is simply how good a singer she was (having gone into this recording session with several perfect [and damn-near perfect] live performances under her belt already).😁
