- From King Curtis & Champion Jack Dupree Live from Montreux June 17th 1971 with Cornell Dupree on guitar, Jerry Jemmott on bass and Oliver Jackson on drums. Filmed two months before King Curtis' tragic death.
Does music get any better than this? To me, the answer is no. Many other things are equally good, but it isn't possible, in my worldview, to exceed perfection. And this is absolutely perfect.
23 i listen to the blues everyday. this is my anthem. i refuse to let this amazing music die
I've been a huge fan of this tune for almost 50 years. This is the first time I've seen the video. Detroit radio had some blues and jazz aficionodos. Long live the blues.
Hey detroit ..I need a Coney dogs...they used to sell them by the ton..now they ALL went outa business.
@@jameslujack1717 No way. Lafayette's and American are downtown, and there are Kerby's all over the place.
CJOM is where I first heard this classic, in or about 1973
Great Blues Sound from some of the greatest Musicians. R.I.P. King Curtis Champion Jack and Cornell Dupree
This song takes me back a few years back in 2006 when I first owned his music by accident. The album was titled blues from the hatter. I could listen to the album every morning before I could leave the house for work. I would leave the house highly inspired of his ensemble.
Ever since then I started to research more about his music, blues, Woogie boogie styled genres and others forms of blues.
Since then i never turned my back. Blues have since became part of my life and source of inspiration.
Back in the early 70's I was in a record shop in Melbourne, Australia, checking out the blues and found this album.
An absolute revelation!!

Jazz and Blues musician's dirty little secret. All these cats were reefer smokers. It was a wonderful time to be alive and to play Blues, Jazz, R&B, Funk, Soul. Then one cleans onese'f up on Sundays and gets ourselves down to the church and behave respectfully unto the Lord.
What a beauty!
With Jemmott/Dupree/Ousley you good... you covered

king curtis is the saxman, jack dupree is the one who said "LAWD HAVE MOICY where well i be in 1999?"
They're having the best fun.
"smokin reefer never harmed a man"? seriously? Where the fuck is my time machine so I can go back to the 70's! I'm so sorry king that you didn't make it to 1999 but don't worry man you didn't miss a thing!
Jerry Jemmott on bass.
Lard have mercy! I wonder what I'll be doing in 2099?

Au plus profond de moi...
12 bar blues? 13 bar blues 11 and a half bar blues? Slow blues with just a piano, you can do whatever you want, but Champion Jack comes in too early and causes confusion with the other musicians at around 2:47. King Curtis and the others adapt with great mastery.
Perhaps he changes chords when he wants to shift into a polydimensional territory......he is, after all, the champion.
yeah, I actually noticed that, tho I'm an amateur guitar player. .thanx .I wonder if he....nah.
