E36 M3 - Dinan Throttle Body, Intake and Euro Headlight Install
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 фев 2025
- We did all of this stuff together, so the Dinan throttle body went in along with the cold air intake. We had to do some modifcations and omit the metal bracket to get the Euro Headlights to fit, but we finally got it to fit and it's all dialed in. Keep in mind, these are for the AL Euro headlights, which have quite a smaller housing than the ZKW or other similar euro headlight variants. Bosch and AL have the smallest housings so it made our install a little smoother than the others. I recommend getting your Euro headlights from seller "Tainik", he had these in stock and ready to go!

Stay tuned for more crazy!
Next week Matt orders new OE fender liner and headlight.
At this point I would have just kept the stock intake instead of mangling everything
Yes, or just install the real M engine (S50).
@Dominick Do you really not know the difference between the S50B30 US/S52B52 vs. S50B30/S50B32? I'm almost certain Andy is talking about the EURO S50s.
@@e36m3gtr3 bingo
That air filter looks pretty beat on at the end of the video
Thought same mangled, iam sure matt won't be happy I wouldn't
@@Graham-kp9bl Yeah, he fuqqed that up. Dude seems nervous as hell.
Well when you try to fit something in a spot that it clearly does not fit that's what happens
Is this a joke on Matt and me? There’s no friggen way Matt is cool with this hack job.
I bet this car performs well. Those Dinan parts are very clean.
mmmmm, don't know man, starting to look like a pretty gueto install.
@@vltruan have you watched at the video, the ammount of cutting that had to be done? not only that, the cutting that was done wasn't even straight.
@@riconesty Not everything is going to just bolt on dude. Sometimes you have to customize the parts to make them fit. I guess you were refer to the install not looking super tidy/ocd, but it’s not like they were finished.
@@vltruan there’s a reason you won’t find any Dinan crap here in Germany...
@@AndyOG2000 not that DInan have not paid to get parts TUV approved? :)
This car is starting to turn to shit with this guy… Matt reverse course now
As an e36 M3 owner bmw did not leave much room in the engine bay for modification. So the cutting and moving around are necessary. Just got to learn the art of making it look as clean as possible.
Matt there is no way you are ok with this, I’ve watched this entire series and this setup and install has gone against your stated objective. Yes i know its your car you do what you want and you should, but I just cant believe you of all people are ok with the hack of a setup and install. A run down to pep boys for a smaller filter or leaving the filter out while you wait on one that fits would have allowed a seamless install. Also cutting your wheel liners right in front of the air intake filter is not a good idea. Water will find its why up there eventually.
I think it’s pretty easy to tell that this guy isn’t used to working on pristine cars
@@jrose7381 No guilt tearing up a beater.
I’m with you 100%. But wanted to mentioned I have this same exact intake and that filter is the Dinan air filter and completes the intake. The fitment work is why it’s been in my storage for 3 years. I came here to see if OG has the answers since owning an E36 now. Unfortunately wasn’t what I wanted to find.
What a bodge job. Unobsessed garage.
Totally agree, Matt can't be seriously pleased with this.
Agree...it's jankey.
WTF is wrong with you guys in the comments? They drilled the spot welds off the bracket that the Dinan instructions SPECIFICALLY said needed to be removed. Most people cut it off. They went as far as to saving it to be welded back even. I have the same intake and did the exact same thing to my car. And chopping the headlight nub is hardly “botched”…… zzzzz…y’all are soft. Matt f these haters lol I have the intake identical on my car had it for over 30k miles and no issues.
You said it better than I could.
Yikes...that was brutal to watch. I hope there is a part 2 redo to fix all the jankey.
Am I in an alternate fucking universe right now. THIS kind of work is considered “OG spec”??
lmfao same here im high af and this guy is hacking up the car for an intake 🤣😭
Thought I was watching Ricer Miata channel for a min ….
Even rud would of done a better install lol.
I knew this guy was sus when he said he doesn’t believe in torquing stuff down lol
I honestly didn’t know it took so much cutting, sawing, drilling, bending and trimming just to install a CAI on an e36.. on a minty e36m3 too.. I would’ve have gone with a different setup to prevent all that but that’s just me.
OG Spec, bro! Proving time and time again that having a large mod budget does not guarantee the cars are any better than stock. 😂
@@tjautocross especially on old cars sometimes simple is better
Haggard garage spec intake install
Not sure how I feel about this. This went from OG Spec to Janky pretty fast. I don’t think a CAI was worth all that cutting and hacking.
The Dinan intake is just not good. That filter is beat to hell.
I am in physical pain after having watched this video
Glad I watched this before buying Dinan Cold Air Intake. I have the Morimoto projector retrofit from Lightwerkz and I did not like this work around
Don't even think this is up to ricermiata spec
Matty Matty Matty. Bruh don't pay someone do this. Do it yourself. This job is a joke. You can't be seriously pleased with this....
@Dominick why should just do the work yourself. If your saying your a true car guy than you should be able to work on your own car.
Guys, we need to find Matt! Let’s start with his last known location…
hahaahhahaahah
id be so pissed about a dinan intake requiring this much hackery
Someone call Steve Dinan stat. No way dinan engineered that so hard.
This guy needs to go , immediately !
@Dominick are you him?
What’s up with all the hate? This is how E36s are, if you haven’t owned one you shouldn’t be talking..
Who else flipped straight to the comments once the drilling began...lol
Dinan intake and euro headlights are two things that don’t work together, not enough room. You have to get very cute … looking forward to see how they went about it.
OMG. No way I would be cutting pieces to make an aftermarket intake fit that will provide no benefit. Now that is Janky. Stock all the way.
That damn filter by the end of the video was destroyed 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well known the Dinan intake does not fit with Euro headlights. Not really Ed's fault. I would suggest maybe one of the Euro intakes (might try GruppeM or Eventuri myself).
so.. if intake does not fit euro hradlights.. lets go cut everything.. I can imagine this guy.. when mounting seats in car.. if seats does not fit.. he will cut little of roof.. great :)
Im affraid of cutting inner liner.. because if you drive on rain, or wash car you fil fill up airflter with water.. and.. youknow what going on after that.. And I agree with others.. removing stock bracket for your standards are shock for me.. for inner liner.. ok.. you can buy new genuine.. but bracket.. dont know.. I think matt is not here when this guy doing this.
@Dominick after watching this video.. I see he dont know anything.. maybe on old cars or race cars.. but on cars like this.. this is shitty job, sorry:)
@Dominick I think you are the guy from video.. and you are there to answer all negative comments.. but believe me.. from 100coments ... 99 are negative.. this is something what you need to receive and change your way how you work on a cars, sorry :)
I could of swore this was an alternate reality I had slipped into. What the fook is going on here is this a sick joke lol 😂
This work is not to Matt’s standard - back to stock would be great. Car is too good for these type of mods.
Exactly..but not to Matt's standard I believe to everyone's standard
I think a different intake would of been a smarter idea! Or just left it stock! I see it sucking in water with the fender liners cut into. Guess it’s Matt’s choice not ours! I love the channel but not what I expected from an obsessed garage video! Also while I’m ranting I hate how you take the M3 badges off Matt lol.
Ha, ha... Comments are so unoriginal.
@@ObsessedGarage stop taking the badges off Matt!!!!!!! 👍🏻
Damn, I couldn't imagine putting on a nice intake and throttle body, without adding a nice silicone asc delete boot 🤷♂️ (or hacking the install like that)
I personally like to keep all the options the car came with functional so I imagine Matt wanted too as well
Hahaha I remember when I had to go through this same exact issue with my e36 M3. Ended bailing on the Dinan intake. From a practicality standpoint it’s not a great design.
Wow these comments are brutal. But I kinda agree.
Ha, ha... Have you not watched the 1M intake install? I had the tear the whole car apart relocating, cutting, modifying all kinds of stuff. Maybe look up an E39 M5 intake. This is what it takes.
@@ObsessedGarage I've watched most of your videos since before you even had the OG HQ! I trust your judgement boss! Just hate to see such a nice care getting cut on. Thanks for the reply and keep up the great content!
High Flow Filter in the Stock Air Box....
A real M engine deserves individual throttle bodies. 🤷♂️
This is why I went with the AFE intake. I hated the fitment of the Dinan even though the Dinan does sound a bit better in my opinion.
@@jrose7381 yeah it’s not enough of a change for me to use the Dinan. AFE sounds good and I don’t have to worry about driving in the rain
Where did you source the euro lights from ? Curious
eBay
OMG I go away for a few weeks and come back to find OG has been replaced by a Scrapheap Challenge channel.
I am very disappointed in the way the install was done. It's not Eb's fault. He suggested they would go back to OEM intake but Matt said no. Never thought Matt would allow a janky install like that. What was Dinan thinking making such an "upgrade"
Looks great to me. This is the only way to do Euro lights and Dinan intake.
I think this dude works as a plumber before getting into cars
It's not the best intake for these reasons. Could also suck up water too. A shorter CAI with a heatshield is ideal.
Also I'd consider removing the ASC. Kind of a bottleneck and not super important on a car with an LSD
I can’t believe you went through all that work and then go and mash up the intake filter 🤣😂
Not the type of install video I expected, surprised this even got posted...
Use a hose clamp when you cut those rubber hose connecters next time!!!
Not really sure why you would cut up a stunning classic car for a air and a bit carbon pipe. Sure you could have found something with a bit better fitment
Who is this guy and why is he destroying a perfectly mint E36 M3.
This is not Obsessed Garage. Weld metal bracket back on. Paint it. Replace anything that was cut with new oem then put the aftermarket intake in the trash.
No...this is pretty much the same as every car I've ever modified. I want Euro headlights and Dinan intake, so this is what you have to do to make it work.
That filter is trashed now, look how rough it is after all was messing about with it
I have a smaller K&N coming to test out. It's all part of the process.
Honestly I feel like those Dinan intakes aren't a great design. I think you would have been better of with a short ram and heat shield 😬
this guy works on track cars..... that style of work doesn't align with Obsessed Garage!
Relocating the horn, what’s plotting here...
Has anyone attempted to buy a new air filter to aid with this mod? If so can they point me in the right direction?
I found one, but I can't remember the exact model I got from K&N.
@@ObsessedGarage Thanks!
Dinan intake is a PITA with euro lights. Mine is basically crammed down in there.
I second that I ended up going the K&N route. dumped the asc got the mishimoto arm to the maf. from there is a rubber boot that passes through the heat shield to the K&N Cai intake. Oh and fits well with my euro headlights.
Lame of Dinan to sell that without major warning that it won't worth with euro lights. Or at least reengineer the thing. Glad to see someone else struggle like I did. I had to carve up part of my brake duct and move the horn.
THEY DO!!!! Since 1999 on all 3 versions it says right in product description and the install sheet that it doesn’t work w/ euro headlights and other non-US OE headlights.
But...I didn't accept that. I want both, and we figured it out. Works great.
@@ObsessedGarage At what cost though I don't care how good that intake noise is coming threw the floor now that you cut everything....
this man ruined the headlight, fender liner and brand new filter! definitely not Matt spec
Why not just get a smaller filter? Kinda disappointed in this video.
Dinan or Dinan style, from EBay? No way Dinan engineered that. Wtf did I just watch!?
Ha, ha... Dinan made the intake for USDM headlights, not Bosch style Euro lights.
This is well known, and not Dinans fault. All three revisions since 1999 clearly state in the product description and install sheet that it does not fit w/ Euro headlights. It is designed for US plastic headlights.
Technically, removing that bracket technically totaled that car, technically.
This was a very poor setup and a worse install but you are absolutely wrong. There was nothing structural about that bracket nor was it saftey related. In addition it can be put back to OEM specs hence not totaled
My heart sunk and all I could think was how matt was gonna look down there and see the unpainted body!!!!!
Resprays a car to make it look amazingly clean to jacking it up to cut a bunch of shit just for a intake what about when those spot welds that where left exposed rust out
Amazing
Little bit of cutting, little bit of trimming …. WHY ? Thank You, but no thanks.
Fuck all that collector bullshit. Nothing was done that can't be undone anyway. Having said that I too am surprised Matt is ok with this. I would have at least fab'd up a replacement bracket. A simple strap bracket would have done fine. I am not familiar with that intake but it seems like moving the filter a tad lower (further away from the carbon pipe) would have solved the problem. A silicone coupler and a straight piece of hell carbon pipe if you really wanted would do the trick. Now having said all that hindsight is 20/20 and it's easy to play keyboard mechanic when you're not actually doing the work.
36k miles on the brackets!! lol
Put it back to stock please this guy is doing his job but it's a janky and the work is non oem
why put an airfilter on the car that clearly wasnt build to fit that car because you had to cut away some bits to make it fit who designed that intake he didnt do a good job seems like
s50b32 swap time
I know it would be nerve wrecking working for Matt, I would have said
No Matt I cant do it without it looking janky,
Poor guy he looks like he wants to gtfot...
Poor filter too that shit is fucked up.
how do you just devalue something like that !!! come on !!!
why dont show startup sound diffrens!
The thing laughably fell off or caught fire after that hack job.
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
What did I just watch?
How to wreck a mint M3 just l to fit an overpriced pointless modification. Filter even looks battered…… No doubt we are all idiots who don’t know what we are talking about …
Come one man... Wrecking the car by cleanly removing a bracket is not wrecking anything.
@@ObsessedGarage for normal peoples this is not wrecking.. but for Obsessed Garage standards to which we are accustomed this is WRECKING.. because we know how precise you are and how well you work on your cars .. we know that.. if this was some ordinary youtube channel of some random guy .. this wouldn't be weird .. in that situation that work will be normal..but since it's Matt's car .. then it's weird.. cutting headlight, cutting fender liner.. removing bracket.. let me give you a comparison Matt.. if a football player of 1M worth for a year, misses a penalty .. it's not strange .. but if a MESSI of 100M worth misses a penalty .. then it will be very strange for everyone :) in this case you are Messi.
@@ObsessedGarage The point is Matt would rip anybody apart if he saw them doing this kind of mod to their car, yet it is acceptable when he does it. Don’t get me wrong I like the channel and content but practice what you preach and accept everybody has different opinions and they are not necessarily wrong because it isn’t the Matt way😉 But seriously get rid of that battered air filter with its gimmicky “carbon’ pipe.
You've got shards of plastic dust in your headlight now. Janky... 😬
Made it worse than stock. Yikes. Hope this is the end of this segment. None of this will yield any performance worth what we just witnessed.
Especially when not swapping an M50 manifold on. The Dinan throttle body is a joke. I have one and there is no way it provides any gains. The only thing different is the best Dinan on the butterfly and maybe a millimeter larger diameter.
I have the Dinan intake and had the same issues. Basically a piece of shit if you have euro lights. I nearly the intake tube and just did a short CAI to avoid the bullshit down there in the bumper.
@@stashtrey1 this is a classic example of just throwing money at the car with unlimited funds vs scrutinizing every update and investment in a logical series of steps towards the goal. Very haphazard should be small steps and further analysis before moving onto next step. All signs point to car being sold in 6 months. Civic 2.0. Tiring to watch.
Let's be honest here....who is this hack hacking up and literally using electrical tape on wiring exposed to the elements on a mint 30k mile E36 M3? Geezus. 🤯😅
Like I've said before when you first got this car. You're a "Show & Shine" guy. This isn't your lane. This car should've gone to one the real e36 heads out here, not you. Why in the world would you pay someone else to do a simple intake job? You're killing me with the comedy. . . The first thing to set this car apart from the other channels currently working on their e36's is ordering a Eurosport Twin Screw and NOT bolting some silly plastic intake pipe. We've seen/done this ourselves 213 times already, sheesh' . Then while the charger was getting shipped you need to drop the engine/tranny to really get it clean. Dropping the engine obviously will make replacing old brittle parts and installing the supercharger much easier. Why ice clean (or whatever that was called) parts that your going to replace anyway, smh. Don't be "That Guy" well too late you're "That Guy", haha!!!
Daniel, I’m a long long long time E36M fan. Also, a long long time OG fan. That said, I was one of the first to pick up the original ES TS that Josh and Mike produced, back in the day. Mike at TRM did the upgrade tune from the original Jim Conforti Shark tune that shipped with the kit. I later upgraded That 1.6l kit to what I believe to be the first and last 2.1l Kenne Bell Eurosport Twin screw kit that was ever made. It’s a masterpiece, currently in my garage on my 95M3. My point is Josh and Mike are no longer producing those gems. Now that my E36 credentials have been established, I have total confidence that Matt will work this out. I’ve been watching him for a while.
@@greentipacademy8696 so, how much you want for your M3... 😁
I don't want a supercharger. Let's compare result at the end. My guess is you'll change your mind when I'm done. I'm busy running a pretty significant company, so I asked Eb to knock this out for me. Seems like I'm the winner here.
