As he is a kind and compassionate man, it is hard to believe he would be racist. I agree it was an unfortunate turn of phrase but perhaps he meant there are few black people in skating...
@@carolannemckenzie3849 We cant be a racist and be everything else : have gay friends like Johnny Weir, love a Ukrainian band and writing a lot on an SP program at Sochi (which mysteriously disappeared), have an almost collaborator a Ukrainian-born hungarian whose name is jewish even after he participated in the 2015 post-annexation of Crimea... Being racist is being against everything not "normal". That makes me think about the current context : media always support oppressed people in China, Iran etc but judges all Russians who supposedly support the way without any memory that these same russians made risky statements for peace in Feb 2022 before reversing course when the violence became even more terrible. Many people I asked remember he was against the war, hs wife' statement on an independent channel was deleted, like many others, but comment on social media are still there and people were really worried for their safety. Teachers who signed open letters or wrote things were arrested or ended up organizing Z-events, Prokoviev also had to write a patriotic music, only to end up being called a tratior when he left the country and couldnt see him mom in Russia until she was dying, his wife was tortured and set to camps... It is easy to judge. I dont know Plushenko but I love his art and originality, his openness and kindness which is more confirmed by his friends and acts than all these horrible people posting nice quotes on FB, nice anti-discrimination speeches but destroy my life without any safety risk. IHe was himslef called a raitor by even politicians when he withdrew from Sochi to not risk being paralyzed or at best aggravate the injury to no return, while being a hero shortly before. cant judge him because I dont know but I dont think he is the type to be happy or even indefferent that people die and are tortured.
