Just a tip I like to share. Under the sink my husband added some inexpensive 8 x 8 tile squares from Home Depot, and we tiled the bottom of the sink cabinet. Best thing ever!! in case the plumbing ever leaks it wont destroy the bottom wood of the cabinet, and so easy to clean.
Elizabeth Esquivel What a fabulous tip! Thanks
Wow what a great idea!!!
Great idea!
Great idea, we used viynel flooring sheet remant from our kitchen floor over 20 years ago. Saved us from several plumbing leaks, and still looks great. I also lined my pantry shelves with it, looks great
As the kids get bigger and hit their growth spurts, those big plates will come in handy!
I know you probably already know this but just in case you don't.....if you take a block of canning wax and rub it on the bottom of your china cabinet drawers and the rungs that they sit on, it will make it easier to slide. the humidity causes swelling and it can make the drawers stick. I usually wax my antique drawers just once a year. makes life easier when the drawer slides smoothly. I just love love love your kitchen. your whole house really.
Love this! We’ve all been convinced that we need a huge kitchen with a thousand cabinets and storage. The truth is, we end up filling that space up with stuff we don’t really need!
So true,i say that all the time. Such a great video
you prolly dont care but if you're bored like me atm you can stream all the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Have been watching with my brother for the last days :)
@Lennox Trey yea, I have been watching on instaflixxer for since december myself :)
Lisa... a suggestion. The cupboard above your refrigerator with baking pans in it... If you were to put some thin boards vertically about 4 to 6 inches apart, you could store the sheet pans and such vertically and it would be easier to put them out when needed. Love your Kitchen!
Very good use of the space you have. I have no idea really, but the storage in your stove could be a throwback to the wood stove days. This is where the wood was stored in many stoves. Just a thought.
Looks like time to sew some pretty new pot holder to go in the beautiful new kitchen!
Quick and easy project...
Just made one yesterday! It had obviously been a while!
It always makes me realize how different and alike we are wh en i ser how someone else arranges their kitchen. Don't apologise for having things you enjoy around you. There are times when just seeing something can change our mood or make us smile. Thanks for sharing.
I feel the same way! I love having pretty things to look at throughout the day. It may not be practical but it brings me joy! 😊❤️
I love that center prep table, it is functional and gorgeous. Also you could put your baking pans under the sink.
You can use one of those pan organizers turned on their side to organize your cookie sheets above the fridge. It looks like you have enough vertical space to store them vertically.
Oh my word, yes! Never thought of that.
@Shaman Dana My cabinet guy built the same thing and WOW... you never know how handy something is until you have one!
That's how I use the space above my fridge also. I have the organizer pulled toward the front of the cabinet so I can reach it easily.
my family keeps a smaller trash bin and recycling bin under our sink! it is really convenient to have it centrally in the kitchen without it being an eyesore as it’s in the cabinet.
Or a composting bin
Wonderful idea! I'm going to do that.
Here in Europe it‘s usual to have trash/compost under the sink!
Woeschhuesli same with Australia, most houses I know have it under the sink
I am oddly envious of your pot and pan storage space haha. Wish we had room in our to organize our cookware in such a convenient way! Loved this video. :)
Love the kitchen. I found that if I put my Birkee on a riser I can move it back away from the edge of the countertop. Made a lot more room on my counter doing that.
Thank you for this! My kitchen looks overcrowded but in reality I don't have that much just not well organized. Seeing what you used and how you've done the space is helpful. You're awesome Lisa!
Under the sink - a step stool! I need it to reach the top cabinets.
Ahh yes!! Great idea.
I might use that idea too Julie!
Lovely and organized, thank you for sharing. Try rubbing the bottoms of your wooden hutch drawers with a bar of soap. They might glide more smoothly.
Lynne True or candle wax
Yes! I did this with an old dresser and it worked like a charm. The drawers slide in and out so easily now.
Love the kitchen! You could store baking pans in a standing rack under the sink.
Wow - your pot holders have a serious work history!
“Make the cut” - pun intended ☺️😂
Your kitchen is lovely! The oven is stunning, a real beauty 😍
Your kitchen is so beautiful!! When you opened the cupboard under the sink and there were THREE things in there, my jaw dropped!! GOALS!! 😍😍😍😍
awe thank you!
I love this idea... even after the underneath has been soaked already
You can also put in a shelf that pulls out and up for your grain mill. It would bring it almost counter level when you pull it out and up so you don’t have to lift it. Hard to explain, but I’m sure you’ve seen these shelves on Amazon. They are great for heavy things. I use one for my kitchen aide so I don’t have to leave it out, but I also don’t have to lift it from the low cabinet. I’m older.......
Trina Peddicord I’ve seen them for mixers too
I also have the same collection of blue China. Unfortunately it's still packed away in our attic. I thought it be best to put them away until my children were older, but now they are older, and you reminded me of them so I'll definitely be getting those out soon.
Walmart and even the dollar tree have beautiful drawer/cabinet liners. I just love changing my liners when I de clutter.
Under the sink is a good spot to put a pull out rubbish bin. That are great, I’ve been installing them in kitchen in Australia for the last 15 years. I’m a Carpenter/Joiner, love your kitchen it’s so refreshing
I love how simple you make things, even in your organization, which is so necessary with lots of kids! I have 5 and I’m always trying to keep things more organized and simple. I wish my pantry was as organized as yours! My problem is the little snacks for the kids(which are rare) and onions/potatoes/butternut squash. But you are definitely inspiring me to clean it up more!
I appreciate you so much. You don’t have excess, yet balance function and design. Your new kitchen is beautiful, I think your berky is a part of your style and perfectly placed for ease. Thanks for sharing, I have new kitchen too, and value your input. Can’t wait to buy your new book ❤️
aw thank you!
That large blue & white bowl, if it doesn't already say, is the Zwiebelmuster design (German for onion pattern). Widely known all over Europe, and various porcelain factories have used the pattern once it was distributed long ago.
I keep a mop bucket under my sink and we put our recycling in it. I also have a cleaning caddy, and my jar of dishwasher tabs, but you won’t be needing one of those haha! Love seeing inside your kitchen.
Ok, if this annoys you just ignore it, but what if you built a stand for your Burkey that would allow it to sit in the corner of your windowsill. It’s pretty enough to keep out, IMO, but just in the way. It wouldn’t have to be much of a stand, just 3 pieces of wood....If it was in the corner of your windowsill it would still be almost just as convenient but give you your counter space back and just look clearer.... just a thought. I love your new kitchen! I’m so happy for you that it’s finally done!
if it was higher up it could be harder to put water in it. I understand about the counter space. I was thinking of a small stool sitting on the counter, it would just lift it and make the counter look less cluttered.
I do believe it was mentioned in one of the videos the reason it’s there is so the children can get access and pour water for themselves
I bought a wrought iron plant stand. It looks like a little chair and works perfect for the Berkey. It does elevate it, so may not work for the children. But I found that feature of the Berkey annoying.
Yep, and if it doesn’t bother you a bit then just ignore me. My counters are no where near as clear or nice as yours so no judgement here. I just had that idea and thought I would share it.
You were very thoughtful with your suggestion. It's so good to see constructive ideas done in a respectful way.
Love your kitchen! It's so timeless!
I've always kept my trash can under the sink. 😉
I think your Berkey is in the perfect location. It just makes sense to me.
have you thought about storing some of your mugs on the shelf above your coffee maker? just a few, that way you wouldn't have to stop by the china cabinet to get a mug. it would already be in the spot. the mugs you are hiding in the back would work there easily. just a thought.
we had a stove just like yours when I was growing up. one thing we had that I wished I still had was a metal matchbox holder that hung on the wall you put your whole box of matches perpendicular with just an inch or two opening for the matches to fall out, and slide it in the container, it has a long slim opening on both sides where you can strike your matches on the box in the holder. they came in so many cute colors. I don't see them as often as I used to. very useful. maybe you could keep an eye out when you go antique shopping for one. a pretty blue to match you cups on the shelf would look beautiful.
Mary West.... I have one of those metal matchbox holders and I love it! Mine is just metal and not painted. :-)
Love your new kitchen and organizing. If you will get a pot lid holder and turn it sideways and pit the cookie sheets in them. Easy to get and organized. Love ya!
Why don't you put your water filter on a wheeled cart? It can be moved around your kitchen and put in a less obvious spot. Just a thought. Love your videos!
I love the look of the Berkey, if i had one, i would probably have it front and centre too.
I have a wastebasket under my sink. It's handy there. I lined the bottom of the cupboard with inexpensive stick on tile because it's easy to wipe up any spills. As far as your "random" drawer...I hope it's normal, I have the same thing, things I use and they fit, works for me!
I bought the Berky stand and love it. If you had one you could push the Berky back away from edge so no accidental overturn buy rambunkious kids.
Donna Danna but then her kids could not easily get their own water. It doesn’t bother her, it just sticks out to us.
I love that spot for the Berkey. It’s perfect. It’s functional. Plus the berkey is pretty. Why hide it. I would definitely display it proudly.
You might be interested in looking for restaurant china on your vintage shopping trips. I’ve purchased several over the years inexpensively and they hold up beautifully especially since you have such a large family.
Thanks Lisa this was so interesting I have a lot of things in my draws that I never use, I am now inspired to only keep things that will be used at least fairly often. I agree that it is important to be able to enjoy looking at lovely things along with everyday things it makes us enjoy being in the kitchen as well as it being a practical homemaking place.
I love the way you had sorted your kitchen very practical and a place for everything so organised wish I could be .
Lisa,
Lisa here...I'm sure you've been told this already but since I've always wanted a stove like yours. I have a question? Has anyone told you the left side of your oven is intended as a warming oven. So like if you make biscuits and want to keep them warm while you make your gravey just pop them in there. Also does your stove have a bottom broiler under the oven.
The warming side can also be used to rise bread( proof dough)
🍞🥐🍪🥮 that's it.🤗
I was thinking the same, proofing and warming areas!
I love that you wear your baby in a lot of your videos 💕💕 he probably loves it!
Hi Lisa I love the way your kitchen looks. I also have a Berkey.. I keep mine on a tall metal plant stand I'm my kitchen due to precious counter space. I use my stock pot to fill it once a day. It works grear.
Kitchen storage??? I kept being distracted by the snuggle bug wrapped close to your heart! 💗 I love the simplicity of your kitchen and how everything has a use and space! I too have cabinets beyond my reach, but could you store your baking pans on their sides like a side view filing rack? You could probably build one you two are so creative! Love that work island! Reminds of the one in the Biltmore House kitchen! (Also a Victorian era kitchen!) I also like your topiary...will you have a video on how to do a topiary? Can’t wait to see what becomes of your pantry room. Very clever having a coffee station! As always thank you for sharing your home with us. I really enjoy our “visits!”
My Daddy had a big thick white coffee cup wish I had it lovely video!
Under sink I have a bucket to capture used kitchen towels during the week, foldable step stool, and arm extender gadget,,use it to reach the items in top shelves, works great when I don't want or need to pull out the step stool.
I’m so impressed by the empty space beneath the sink!
Amazing how you minimize things. Mom of 4, Grandmother to 7. ❤❤
Nice organization. Re: storage above frig., suggestion: if you place dowels inside right side you can slide cookie trays on their side makinging it easier to pick and slide in and out. Leave muffin tins stacked on left side of caninet. I really like your ideas!
Would be so pretty to store coffee beans in vintage jars above your coffee grinder and French press.
So lovely! I’m gonna reorganize my kitchen today. I think I’m desperate for an all in one baking spot, too! 😍
The left side of my 50's O'Keefe and Merritt stove and oven is a broiler. We do use the drawer under it for bake pans and cookie sheets and such though.
I love your hair up! So pretty! 😍
Well thanks! This was my "I don't feel like doing my hair today" style. ;)
I love seeing the way other people organize their kitchens. I love your stove! We just moved to a new house and I have started keeping a basket under the sink for the rags and kitchen towels, which frees up more drawer space.
I had to laugh at your dish rags. That's how I tend to "fold" my socks and underwear lol. Maybe I'll start doing the same with dish rags. Love your kitchen!
I thought it was genius!
I love your kitchen! I definitely like having a random things drawer. I always have.
No issue with grease from cooking and no oven hood? Beautiful kitchen!
nope!
You should check out Lead Safe Mama......a lot of those antique plates are very high in lead and can leach in food. I had to get rid of all my old blue and white dishes and my vintage Pyrex.
Jenn S You really didn’t have to, you chose to. Other people make different choices that they are comfortable with and that’s ok.
The water filter doesn’t bother me at all. It honestly looks like it fits in that area. Video aside, I’m just in the process of getting my sourdough starter started. I’m on day 4 and so far things are going well. I’m excited to try some of your recipes, especially the sourdough cinnamon rolls!
yes! cinnamon rolls are one of my favorite sourdough recipes!
I love the idea of keeping lemon essential oils under the sink to help with soaking dirty dishes!
How about putting the extra pans ( muffin, cake tins, etc) on the shelf above your coffee area. That way you don't have to get a chair to get it down. Looks great though Lisa. I always love checking out what you have in store for us!
Hi Julie, First, your new home is beautiful. Looks like something out of Better Homes and Garden. My question for you is, have you ever had a stainless steel sink? The reason I ask is we are replacing our kitchen sink which is a porcelain sink to a stainless steel sink. My thought for doing this is because of maintenance. My white porcelain sink seems to soak up stains every day. It's never a quick wash. Every night before being done with the kitchen, I have to scrub the sink due to stains, and rust mark's. If you have had experience with both, which is the easiest to maintain in your opinion?
I think you are very practical, with the towels. I have a friend who never folds her kids socks anymore lol they wear them mix matched anyway so she just keeps them in a basket in the laundry room or in closet. I never fold socks now, I just lay them flat in my husband's drawer.
Loving this as I am now reorganizing my kitchen items and have tossed a lot of duplicate things. This was great and I agree with you and how you sectioned items off that are for like purposes, ie: flour and baking supplies etc. Spices you use frequently etc.
I have little space or storage in my galley kitchen which drives me nutty but it is what it is and I work with it.
I really enjoyed this and I am loving less is more and would cut so much time out of a persons work in the kitchen.
Great vlog, love your kitchen!
Blessings
Something that I added to my laundry room is a Champ Grip holder. It attaches to back side of door then you can hang mops, brooms etc from it. It takes up very little room and all my cleaning things are in one spot. I got it on Amazon. Check it out. Worth every cent!!
The lid shelf! Yes! Im getting me one of those.
I never knew that about storage on a vintage stove! Very cool.
Totally normal to have a odds and ends drawer. 🤗
Great video, thanks for sharing. We have a 1925 old stove we need to light, we use a bbq lighter, works perfectly, I keep it on a nice wire basket on top of the stove,,don't even think it weird or in convenient anymore
I totally have An odds and ends drawer! 😆
Do love your kitchen.so miss my childhood life on the farm now😢
Your kitchen is so cool! Do you like not having a disposal? Also, if your girls like having tea parties, The London Tea Room is pretty awesome in the Tower Grove area!
Thank you! We have always given our scraps to the chickens so I do not mind not having a garbage disposal. Thank you so much for the recommendation! My girls will love it :)
Thanks for the kitchen tour, love the way you blend practical and beauty together, when you redo the pantry could you add more power points so that you could use the machines in situ rather than moving them to the kitchen and back again. For the brooms and mops you need an old fashioned broom cupboard.
I’ve seen people purchase wooden plant stands for their water filer to sit on so it can be pushed back on the counter but still fill their cups easily
I love how you keep your baby so close to you. I can't wait to be a mom!
Wow,you're in need of new pot holders!!!
Love your kitchen, wonderfully decorated
Hi I am noticing that your hutch drawers need to be wiggled closed. I wanted to say if you run a bar of soap over the part that slides your drawer, it will help it glide in smoothly. (I just keep a bar handy for this)
You have a wonderful home and family enjoy
Lisa! I knew I found a soul sistah in you and Chloe and Boxwood Avenue! I love everything you and Chloe do! @BoxwoodAvenue - I have a goal of gettin' hubby to buy me some land up by you....we are currently in Santa Barbara County. I need SPACE! Love ya, Lisa!!!! I sell doTERRA, too! SUCH a wonderful and inspiring company to be apart of! xoxo
Command Hooks makes the best hook for hanging up brooms and mops and such. There’s like a hard plastic piece and then inside there is a gray rubber piece that’s flexible and the broom or mop handle clicks right into it. To get your mop and broom up off the floor :) It’s a real space saver :)
I love your kitchen. clicked on youtube and right away see you and your sister posted your videos at the same time. It made it hard for me to decide who I should watch first.
Haha love it! Her video has better tips than mine, I am not very organized!
I was watching your video and I noticed the tea set that your daughters play with. I have the matching cups and plates that go to that that I used when my daughter was little!
Hi, I’ve been really enjoying watching your videos over the past couple of months. Just a little suggestion from someone that works in TV. Your shots when you are speaking to camera are often over-exposed (too bright white and washed out). Your b-roll/overlay footage always looks well exposed though. Blessings from New Zealand. Loving the content.
A working kitchen that’s beautiful too 👌🏼.
One thing I do is hang pot holders inside a cabinet door with Command hooks.
I was noticing the drawers on you hutch stick a little. I was refurbishing some sticky wooden drawers in our dining room recently and discovered "paste wax". It's amazing! They slide like butter now. It's very affordable and I found it at home Depot. I'd recommend applying it on a warmer day so you can leave the drawers outside and open a window for ventilation. Seriously, it's so easy and they'll slide so much better. Beautiful kitchen BTW 😍
You’ve mentioned using them before, but can you do a video on what you get from Thrive Market for your family? And what you prefer to get from there as opposed to a traditional grocery store.
Okay, yes - we are definitely kindred spirits! This could be my kitchen! LOL I have a family grain mill, though I rarely use it now since I gave up grains. :)
Really enjoyed seeing your organizing style Lisa!! Thanks for sharing!!!
I have seen people placing their water filter on top of a kitchen counter stool and you can tuck it in more behind the counter top, but it seems to be working for you, I enjoy your videos
I love your kitchen! I also like those little ball jar containers in your baking drawer. I’m going to have to get some of those! Also, it’s fitting that you have been posting more about your Berkey because we just finally ordered one after wanting one for quite a while so your videos will come in handy! As always, thanks for the great videos!
I keep a laundry basket in my kitchen. Helps keep kitchen tidy.
Great idea!
The Sleeping Baby was the best part.
For pantry I would totally make a small table for coffee station. We use a long skinny almost buffet style table in our kitchen that keeps our coffee, kettle and vitamix and keurig. It’s been sooo helpful and nice for guests to use as well. Love your space. Organizing is my jam. Lazy Susan’s in the pantry are a must!! We have the same white and black tile in our laundry/pantry. It was an easy way to make it fun because it needed a revamp. Looking forward to your pantry update!!
The oven size is similar to mine! And I’m the same way with the aesthetics! So beautiful!!! The only thing I can’t fit is an oversized take and bake pizza 😂 so fun doing this together and drooling over your fresh kitchen!
I think some new oven mits might be a good thing to put on your wish list 😄❤️
Beautiful! Did I hear Daniel squeekin?? too cute that one.
I store my baking pans and some food serving platters above my sink too. I installed some upright supports, kind of like your pot lid holder, to stand them on their sides so I can more easily pull one out rather than having them stacked.
And we have our trash and recycling bins under our sink. I was surprised to see yours over in your pantry though you may not generate as much trash as we do so don't need it as readily available.
I love where your coffee station is!
