Malthael has to be one of my favorite Blizzard villains alongside Arthus, Sargarus and Amon. His motivations are so well established where he has this warped sense of justice to rid Sanctuary of all demon essence, at the expense of killing every human being. That is great villain writing.

So the only logical step for a being made of Good, as Malthael says, angels and demons dont really have choice in it, from his perspective, is to force that choice, or to remove it, being that humanity would have sin regardless, the choice is to remove it, IE: Death. And his method would've consumed all the souls of hell and humanity into Death, which he now dominated until the player/Nephalem, stopped him.

I think Malthael's inital inability to find the Worldstone started to torture him, and that was when his mood darkened. After the Worldstone was destroyed by Tyrael, Malthael snapped and, fearing both their latent powers their ability to choose between good and evil, decided to exterminate humanity.
And if you ask me we only prove him right except for the few who are actually trying to make things right,for example people helping animals that were once near extinction now aren't.

Think of Malthael as the ultimate personification of Order. He is an absolutionist of keeping things balanced and as they should be. Humanity threw a wrench in the cosmos, by giving choice to good and evil, whereas it was perfectly balanced prior. Their existence destroyed stability, ultimately humanity would cause the end of the eternal conflict, by choosing good or evil. Malthael knew he had to force the decision to be in his control, but the Nephalem were already beyond his control, even with the black soul stone's power, all of the lords of hell, and the possibly strongest and wisest Angel, couldnt beat one of the Nephalem. His actions were guided to preserve the Order established by the Eternal Conflict, however, humanity made that Order become falliable, it would eventually end one way or another due to the possibility of choice. Malthael still preferred the Light to win, so he pushed for it, but pushed too far. Ultimately, his actions were entirely logical from his type of standpoint, but he sort of succumbed to his own statement, angels and demons dont really have a choice in being sinful or good. He hardlined being good to the point, it was bad to humanity, because they were part sin, but the culmination of truth is that having sin does not mean you cannot be innocent.
A good Chuck of lines here, are from his tomes aka in game audiobooks that you can collect and then play at will. My guess is the person who made this video just collected all of his tomes and the start recording after he hit play.
