      Worse, the evolution of the show ended up undermining the good first season, in an example of how bad writing can end up retroactively destroying good writing.

    Question: what was that part of the ship the raider was going for? It looked like either an auxiliary hangar or an observation room with windows.

    • @GHawkinsOneSix
      @GHawkinsOneSix 6 лет назад +6

      Yeah it's the observation deck. It's one of the few rooms with windows onboard the Galactica. It was there for recreational purposes for the crew.

    • @Elthenar
      @Elthenar 6 лет назад +1

      I am not sure how much damage it could have done hitting an observation deck. It almost certainly would have had armor behind it and been far from critical systems, fuel or ammo given that it would be an obvious weak point to target.

    • @BigTylt

    Wouldn't launching the vipers (or some of them) be standard procedure in this situation? Why Adama or Lee didn't think of that?

    • @zorak950
      @zorak950 5 лет назад +8

      They already had Vipers out, shadowing the Raider. When the Raider broke for the fleet, it surprised the Viper pilots that had been shadowing it and was going to outrun them- they wouldn't have been able to catch up in time to stop it from ramming Galactica. It was Tigh's call to launch the reserve Vipers that saved the ship because since they were coming from Galactica they were in a position to get between it and the Raider, and shoot it down.
      You don't launch every fighter you have unless you think you're going to need them; besides being bad tactics it's a waste of resources which the fleet can ill afford. This whole encounter was just one Raider pretending to be damaged, drawing them out and making them hesitate and doubt until it saw an opening to strike. Now you can certainly question whether they should have just blown it up at the start and called it a day, but they didn't, and the situation being what it was at that moment Tigh sensed that the enemy was going to make a move, and made the decision to act first.

    I laughed when Adama said Saul saved the ship. From one Raider? How many times had the Galactica been struck by missiles from basestars before that? We're supposed to believe that a suicide run by one raider into a flight pod would destroy or even cripple Galactica?
