And his son has also used that same book to explain to adults that even though he doesn't want a hug from them, he doesn't hate them or anything. I watched the Sans is Ness theory and honestly, it was the reason I DISCOVERED Undertale. I came up with my own theories and MatPat inspired me to do so. So, you know, I have my own theories about Undertale and stuff, but most are things MatPat planted like a seed and I just did my own research and found my own evidence.
The thing about Game Theory is, compared to other theory channel, is that GT is just a small team that covers a lot of games. Meanwhile the theory channels mostly are just a huge fan of their game and focuses on that game alone. GT will surely miss things or two that the hardcore fans knows about the game.

I'm with you on the Sans video. I never really saw what was so bad about it. Which isn't to say I think its some rock solid theory, but it seems just as good to me as his other stuff from the time. And, as always, it let him talk about what he really wanted to talk about, which was how Toby Fox's love of Earthbound is what fueled the creation of Undertale. Listen, when Bioware was making KotOR 2, they introduced this idea of an extra-galactic threat that Revan disappeared to go fight. That the Exile goes to fight. They then spun off and made their own sci-fi series, Mass Effect, that had the Reapers an extra-galactic threat. If game theory had ever made a video ablut how the Reapers were coming to the Star Wars galaxy, sure that theory wpuld be kind of ridiculous. But it also makes sense; its clear that Bioware at least had some proto form of the Reapers in mind when making KotOR 2. And game theory needs a theory to talk about that stuff, thats the format. I just never understood the hate.

Tbf, i have never knew that mattpat was hated by so many ppl. I started by watching his minecraft and fnaf videos, and when he made some outrageous theories, i always see it as ‘oh wow this guy has theorized so much he’s gone crazy’ in a sense that im enjoying watching him going mad & tangent again and again, seeing it as ‘oh this theory is wrong but it sounds funny!’ kind of thing. I think at some point ‘being crazy when he talks about game’ has become one of his branding and a lot of people actually love it. I think a recent popular word can describe him pretty well, and this type of characteristic often works well in fiction, it is called ‘unhinged’.
I still remember watching the "matpat being transphobic" all the way through thinking it was satire only for it to turn out 100% serious... good times...
@@thepuff5974 it was all old clips put together like an out of context compilation and all the clips were like joking about people putting attack helicopter as their gender in a survey he made for a video or a joke that could vaguely be interpreted as about/against trans people but in context wasn't meant to be read that way then at the end their was a tweet or two matpat made addressing allegations and some text like "matpat keeps avoiding the issues and refuses to acknowledge his transphobia" or something like that. The person didn't even speak during the video or explain exactly what the problem with each joke was.

Firstly, try to make your character a bit more detailed/ look less fuzzy, it just feels less clear even if it could be much better. Hol on, i have a theory in this video, if you look closely on the monitor you can see stuff change like "they're coming for you run run run" at 1:48 and a window that has been broken but fixed up with duct tape at 2:00 you can also see the text "Jeffrey Epstien did not kill himself" at 5:32 and "The CIA actively supresses the modern state of journalism" at 5:46 (there's also "pull up stuntin" at 7:19 but idk what that means xd) so my theory is that Jeffrey Epstien disappeared out of nowhere and everybody thought that he commited suicide but it was false information since in the text "the cia supresses modern state of journalism" which indicates that everyone made a simple and incorrect answer for the complex question and no one went further into the details. And since Jeffrey did not actually kill himself he now wants to get revenge and since there's a broken window it means Jeffrey broke into someone's house (the house that Kamermoon is in the video) and the text "they're coming for you, run run run" could mean that there's two people in the home, and either kamermoon or the lil guy in the video that is warning the other (Kamermoon or the lil guy in the video) about Jeffrey and his murderous intent. to be honest whilst game theory/mat was never perfect the hate seemed to be for the sake of hating just because it was cool yer they got theory's wrong or had takes people didn't agree with but over the years on YT people have done far worse things so at its worse it was a fun way to kill time whilst learning something and if that's the worse they could do they did well and at lest no one got groomed or SA cant say that for a lot of big youtubers anymore extra so on the gaming side
This helped me remember that I'll be ok even with the career I'm pursuing. The art community can get a bit chaotic. And with that being online, I look to people like Mat for the confidence that I'll be able to take anything, because in the end online hate doesn't matter. It's how you respond to it.

The thing about specific fandoms being mad their game was misrepresented is REAL. My friend was a BIG Hollow Knight fan and I showed them the video because I thought they would like it and they were so offended by the video and going off on how everything was wrong. Like, girl I love you. But it's just a video about a theory on a video game. MatPat has stated multiple times that he doesn't necessarily believe all the theories he puts out, because they're that, theories. They're closer to "what if" thought experiments with a bit of evidence and education but it doesn't mean they have to be be 100% correct 100% of the time. Like the infamous 'Sans is Ness' video. Me personally, do I believe it to be canon? No. But is it fun to think about and find evidence for if it was? Yes.

Honestly, I am not the BIGGEST fan of Game Theory but I respect them alot for much research. I am a Minecraft player and some of his theories just aren't the best for that game, for trying to figure Minecraft lore I recommend Retro Gaming Now, but that doesn't mean we should ever disrespect MatPat. I always found it super dumb. It was and always been just theories never was supposed to be seen as actually Canon heck sometimes he purposely picked a dumb silly theory just to come up with funny head Canon. Like Mario being the villain, Luigis "size", sonics speed based on the fact that yeah he's 100s of times slower then he should be cause you need to be able to see and control him who knew lol. I always viewed most theories as alternate universes or interesting head Canon. The only ones I took seriously ever are the ones that openly called for theories in order to piece together lore like all the indie horror games and of course fnaf. But even those I took with a grain of salt as it trying to piece together a whole story from tiny little clips or easter eggs.
i remember the first "matpat debunked" video i ever saw/was aware of. it was some guy butt hurt that matpat didnt say the vikings would realistically win in for honor. And too be fair, they did point out some inaccuracies matpat had about the vikings in his video, but they didn't give enough evidence to prove their equipment was even on par with the samurais', but still said the vikings would easily win. Like, sure dude, whatever you have to say to go to sleep at night i guess.
here's how i always look at it: game theory is more like an entry level theory, it introduces people to the game, and if they like what they see, they can look up dedicated theorists for said game

I mainly watched game theory before FNAF before it was really a brand. And the original fnaf video’s were *incredibly* interesting to me back then. The mystery was intriguing, and matpat was seemingly the only person who noticed. But as it slowly took over the channel I started to lose interest. And after the “it was all a dream” theory it became very clear that FNAF’s developer was absolutely not prepared to create such an extensive lore. And after sister location I completely lost interest. I think shortly after film theory was established I slowly lost interest. Only very occasionally returning over the years. And then often being greeted by an unfamilliar voice with an unfamilliar video structure So when matpat retired it was the first time I had thought about game theory in years. Which got me engaged for the duration, even if my interest in game theory had faded. And I never experienced any major controversies when I still watched him. At school as well opinion was generally positive
I did not like his HermitCraft theory video, BUT that doesn't mean I would hate watching it. I love it when someone famous talk about my favorite series haha
I think it's a shame that Mat got so much hate for the Sans is Nessie video. Because even if it was far fetched and got things wrong, it wasn't that bad. It explored some hypotheticals and angles that the viewer might not have thought of on their own. And *that* is what I like about theory videos. Bringing fresh things to the table allowing fans to talk about stuff and engage with each other. Calling out flaws in a video is fine, if done respectfully. But it really makes me sad to see it prompt such toxic reactions.

I still can't believe he never made music theory. I know he went over that topic and explained why he couldn't legally do so despite wanting to really bad, but it'll always be the one that got away, especially now that he's retired.
Tbf, i have never knew that mattpat was hated by so many ppl. I started by watching his minecraft and fnaf videos, and when he made some outrageous theories, i always see it as ‘oh wow this guy has theorized so much he’s gone crazy’ in a sense that im enjoying watching him going mad & tangent again and again, seeing it as ‘oh this theory is wrong but it sounds funny!’ kind of thing.
I think at some point ‘being crazy when he talks about game’ has become one of his branding and a lot of people actually love it. I think a recent popular word can describe him pretty well, and this type of characteristic often works well in fiction, it is called ‘unhinged’.

@@thepuff5974 it was all old clips put together like an out of context compilation and all the clips were like joking about people putting attack helicopter as their gender in a survey he made for a video or a joke that could vaguely be interpreted as about/against trans people but in context wasn't meant to be read that way then at the end their was a tweet or two matpat made addressing allegations and some text like "matpat keeps avoiding the issues and refuses to acknowledge his transphobia" or something like that. The person didn't even speak during the video or explain exactly what the problem with each joke was.
I genuinely refuse to believe it's not satire.

Firstly, try to make your character a bit more detailed/ look less fuzzy, it just feels less clear even if it could be much better. Secondly (and lastly) maybe try to put your research sources in the description or try to explain your research? That's all I have to say! You will definitely succeed if you stay determined!

Hol on, i have a theory in this video, if you look closely on the monitor you can see stuff change like "they're coming for you run run run" at 1:48 and a window that has been broken but fixed up with duct tape at 2:00 you can also see the text "Jeffrey Epstien did not kill himself" at 5:32 and "The CIA actively supresses the modern state of journalism" at 5:46 (there's also "pull up stuntin" at 7:19 but idk what that means xd) so my theory is that Jeffrey Epstien disappeared out of nowhere and everybody thought that he commited suicide but it was false information since in the text "the cia supresses modern state of journalism" which indicates that everyone made a simple and incorrect answer for the complex question and no one went further into the details. And since Jeffrey did not actually kill himself he now wants to get revenge and since there's a broken window it means Jeffrey broke into someone's house (the house that Kamermoon is in the video) and the text "they're coming for you, run run run" could mean that there's two people in the home, and either kamermoon or the lil guy in the video that is warning the other (Kamermoon or the lil guy in the video) about Jeffrey and his murderous intent.

to be honest whilst game theory/mat was never perfect the hate seemed to be for the sake of hating just because it was cool yer they got theory's wrong or had takes people didn't agree with but over the years on YT people have done far worse things so at its worse it was a fun way to kill time whilst learning something and if that's the worse they could do they did well and at lest no one got groomed or SA cant say that for a lot of big youtubers anymore extra so on the gaming side

The art community can get a bit chaotic. And with that being online, I look to people like Mat for the confidence that I'll be able to take anything, because in the end online hate doesn't matter. It's how you respond to it.

The thing about specific fandoms being mad their game was misrepresented is REAL. My friend was a BIG Hollow Knight fan and I showed them the video because I thought they would like it and they were so offended by the video and going off on how everything was wrong.
Like, girl I love you. But it's just a video about a theory on a video game. MatPat has stated multiple times that he doesn't necessarily believe all the theories he puts out, because they're that, theories. They're closer to "what if" thought experiments with a bit of evidence and education but it doesn't mean they have to be be 100% correct 100% of the time.
Like the infamous 'Sans is Ness' video. Me personally, do I believe it to be canon? No. But is it fun to think about and find evidence for if it was? Yes.

As a long time fan of Game Theory, this is every thing I’ve wanted to say to every unfair hater ever. I love how you went into the history and choices they made.
People hated because he made so many FNF videos? Really I’m surprised he didn’t do more. I mean RUclips is streaming platform and does NOT pay individual creators.(Though they should) If a video does badly all that hard work is for nothing and the creator gets no pay. It doesn’t matter how big or small the creator is taking a risk every time they do a video. Especially if one that the algorithm doesn’t like or might not get as many views. (Sure the bigger creators do get pushed more and recommend more but it is a risk.) Doing RUclips is a job and I don’t blame him for trying to get that cash. Hate the game not the player.

Honestly, I am not the BIGGEST fan of Game Theory but I respect them alot for much research. I am a Minecraft player and some of his theories just aren't the best for that game, for trying to figure Minecraft lore I recommend Retro Gaming Now, but that doesn't mean we should ever disrespect MatPat. MatPat is a respectable person and I dearly respect him.

I always found it super dumb. It was and always been just theories never was supposed to be seen as actually Canon heck sometimes he purposely picked a dumb silly theory just to come up with funny head Canon. Like Mario being the villain, Luigis "size", sonics speed based on the fact that yeah he's 100s of times slower then he should be cause you need to be able to see and control him who knew lol. I always viewed most theories as alternate universes or interesting head Canon. The only ones I took seriously ever are the ones that openly called for theories in order to piece together lore like all the indie horror games and of course fnaf. But even those I took with a grain of salt as it trying to piece together a whole story from tiny little clips or easter eggs.

i remember the first "matpat debunked" video i ever saw/was aware of. it was some guy butt hurt that matpat didnt say the vikings would realistically win in for honor. And too be fair, they did point out some inaccuracies matpat had about the vikings in his video, but they didn't give enough evidence to prove their equipment was even on par with the samurais', but still said the vikings would easily win. I mainly watched game theory before FNAF before it was really a brand.
And the original fnaf video’s were *incredibly* interesting to me back then. The mystery was intriguing, and matpat was seemingly the only person who noticed. But as it slowly took over the channel I started to lose interest. And after the “it was all a dream” theory it became very clear that FNAF’s developer was absolutely not prepared to create such an extensive lore. And after sister location I completely lost interest.
I think shortly after film theory was established I slowly lost interest. Only very occasionally returning over the years. And then often being greeted by an unfamilliar voice with an unfamilliar video structure
So when matpat retired it was the first time I had thought about game theory in years. Which got me engaged for the duration, even if my interest in game theory had faded. And I never experienced any major controversies when I still watched him. At school as well opinion was generally positive
I did not like his HermitCraft theory video, BUT that doesn't mean I would hate watching it. I love it when someone famous talk about my favorite series haha

I think it's a shame that Mat got so much hate for the Sans is Nessie video. Because even if it was far fetched and got things wrong, it wasn't that bad. It explored some hypotheticals and angles that the viewer might not have thought of on their own. And *that* is what I like about theory videos. Bringing fresh things to the table allowing fans to talk about stuff and engage with each other.
Calling out flaws in a video is fine, if done respectfully. But it really makes me sad to see it prompt such toxic reactions.
