One of the very few English players who I always admired. He had more of a european style, elegant, technically gifted and just all round marvellous footballer.
When you was born can really affect how your career pans out. If Baines is born 10 years earlier or 10 years later than he was and he's an England regular, gets a big move and has a legendary career. Coming through just after Ashley Cole kept him back, even when he was playing better than Cole it was too late Cole had the reputation and the trust.
For sure, his best years were 2009-2014 which were his mid to late 20s. Unfourtunately for him, thats also the worst 5yr stretch for the England team this decade. No great england talent was in their prime in this period besides Rooney and Baines himself.
As a Everton fan it’s great to see players who if they were at a bigger club would be held down as a Premier league great get some recognition, I really enjoyed your videos on failed England wonder kids keep up the work boss 👍
Yeah, he was an amazing player, and he's definitely not talked about enough. And thanks man, it's good to hear some positive feedback on that video, as I've been having a lot of doubts about it lately and in all honesty it's probably not my best work lol. Glad that you enjoyed it though!
I wouldn’t worry about quality mate, your videos are great really informing and they don’t feel overly produced or that you’re putting on a act or something for the camera it’s just you and your opinion, that’s all you need to be mate 👍
Putting respect on Baines' name! Love this! There's only one shirt with a players name on it I've ever gotten and that's Baines, even before the links to United. Him staying and becoming a true Everton legend will never be forgotten.
Roy Keane said that he spoke to Baines when he was trying to sign him for Sunderland and was told something along the lines of, "I'm sorry Roy. But if Everton come calling, I'm going there because I'm an Evertonian." But Baines did admit to coming from a Liverpudlian family but ended up supporting Everton because of his friends. Also some stats you could have added would be Chances Created. Which I'm certain he was top 5 in Europe for at numerous points in his career, which is impressive for a Left Back, even if only for parts of a season. But also the fact that Baines wasn't playing for a title contending team like the others. Everton were a very good team, regularly in Europe. But they lacked a top striker to get them further. Which in turn, would have undoubtedly got Baines more assists. But great video none the less. Cheers!
Your channel is so great. I love the topics you pick, and such a great narration!! The algorithm brought me here couple of months ago and now I don’t miss an upload! Thank you for the entertainment.
I literally worshiped leighton baines people honestly don’t realise how great he was just look at his assists considering we didn’t have great strikers hate to say it but it might of been better if he left us would of got so more recognition his assists might of been double with a world class striker
thanks so much for sharing this! deeply appreciated,,, btw hopefully we can know more about england national team, why they didnt pick "Leighton Baines"
Baines wasnt a boyhood red. His dad supported Liverpool but he supported Everton and attended the 1995 fa cup final. Roy Keane tell the story about talking to Baines about signing him and Baines said that he will go to Sunderland but if Everton make a bid he will go there because its the team he supports.
His first season was ruined by an injury he suffered when Darren Moore stood on his ankle (accidentally of course). You know you're in trouble, when big Darren stands on your ankle.
but even based on a old skool scouting style looks wise he is such a Manchester united guy, and evra second, i think baines attitude would fit better, but evra turned out nice!
Best left foot in the game in his time. Ashley Cole was always LORDED, NONSENSE, wasn't as good as Leighton but never got the recognition. Met his Uncle in Spain and he was proud he didn't go for the money at UTD and stayed with us at Everton.
@@cal-efc8062 yes I understand your point a few you mentioned baled out for the money. Sorry I am a bit biased on bainsey I must admit. He’s still blue through and through. You too I reckon. All the best to you.

Baines, at his peak in the early/mid 2010's, was probably the best fullback in the league. He should have played for the likes of Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, or Man Utd then, not Everton.
Interesting. Do you think that is more indicative of the changing style of football in the league, brought about by managers like Klopp, than them being better than Baines per se?
Yes ,but Baines was playing in a more defensive team without many great goal-scorers and today fullbacks are more more attacking positions. Baines not only attacked, he was very good defensively, which many top level fullback today are not.
@@flashbackfootball1367 I would say its more about the changing style of football in the league. Klopp's teams have always been more reliant on their full backs, and ever since his sucess at Dortmund, the role of a full back in general has started to change to a more attacking one. After a while we became so used to seeing Robertson and Arnold overlapping and providing asissts that we forgot their main job is to deffend. But the numbers Baines achieved being primarily a defender deserve praise

An absolute legend
His link up play with Steven Pienaar was absolutely beautiful 😊
Criminally underated
Best LB in the PL by a mile in his day. Everton legend. Hit a great free kick too. COYB UTFT.

Baines and Coleman the best attacking fullbacks in the country for five years
Everton legend. Great free kicks, superb pens and a great left back.

One of the best attacking fullbacks ive had the privilege to watch. Turned down offers from the likes of Manchester United to stay with us.
I think it was the club, not Baines that turned down United.
Brilliant player. Olek Zinchenko's predecessor
Zinchenko doesn't deserve to be in the same conversation as Baines
I think if Ashley Cole wasn’t playing at the same time as Baines he’d have been a regular England international.
I don't give a monkey's about Baines, but I love this channel, so here we are 😂

If he was from South American or Southern Europe he'd be considered world class.
Ive always thought Ashley was overrated, especially for England.
Makalele was not underrated. He had a position named after him
If he played In this era, then we wouldn't have a left back problem for England, he's clear over Luke Shaw or trippier playing out of position
The Scouse Roberto Carlos
I had a few kick about with him as a kid. I knew his cousins
The Everton Robertson 😅
Absolutely class he was but he’s not a Everton legend for me as we didn’t win anything when he played unfortunately
No one won anything at Everton
