- SOVL is a tabletop fantasy combat game with roguelike elements. You pick your faction and lord, select some early units and go on an adventure on a Slay the spireish map. So if you like warhammer tabletop games, this game is perfect for you. I've been having a great time with the game and it's FREE!

Brilliant game! I would love to see dwarfs once again - maybe with a little more artilery or under diffrent leader
@@adriatus97 I will get back to Dwarfs to try out some more stuff. But I want to try some of the other factions first.
@@lazygrouse so abyssals or undeads arę na option - yay :D
Im going to Hunt for sale for this game - I have a feeling that this could run on my crappy laptop. Slay The Spire worked so maybe :D
@@adriatus97 They are definitely an option, might go undead. The game is free so just try it. There are only DLC that cost money for some of the factions.
With [Shift], you can rotate units in deployment phase, at the start of the battle.
Also pro tip, if you have an army with a lot of shooting and the enemy army has more units like the dwarf vs lizardman battle at 23:05 you can 'pass' at the strategic phase and force them to move their units first until they have an equal number of units remaining to your own... in the first 2 rounds this basically means you can force some of their units into range before your ranged units fire and thus maximize close range shots. (Just make sure it says 'pass' and not skip phase... if you accidentally hit it it will ask if your sure and you can still back out but you definitely don't want to miss a shooting/strategy phase)
@@vampuricknight1 Oh I thought of I passed that meant I don't move at all and let them do whatever they wanted. I gotta try that out. :)
@@lazygrouse Yep, i can 100% confirm that its just passing priority to a single enemy unit. And after they move that unit it will be your turn again to move or pass again if they still have more units to move than you.
@@vampuricknight1That is great. Otherwise having fewer units is a big disadvantage to maneuvering.
Shift + X/C is to see ranged attack cones.
Heroes on flying mounts are perfect harassers, if enemy moved first, flying unit can flank, so instead of charging, enemy spins around, be careful of those that have ranged attacks, also if your flyer has magic or ranged attacks, you can shoot enemy in the back.
From my experience they seem very fragile, so I'm a bit apprehensive sending them too deep, but I like how fast they are. But I definitely have some room for improvements on positioning and maneuvering.
Yea you literally just take the flying mount and literally circle them always right outside of their charge range
Can you make a playlist for this game? I would love to watch all your videos for this game. 😁
@@Gibson7Clans So far it's only the two videos. But there will be more coming soon, and I'll be sure to make a playlist then.
@@lazygrouse thanks. 😁👍
Skill does improve 'to hit' rolls on shooting and melee. Just keep in mind there are diminishing returns with high skill a 1 up to hit and a 2 up to hit are essentially the same especially if you have a ranged unit that rerolls 1s anyway.
@@vampuricknight1 Good point, I guess a good skills target for shooting is about 4 then.
Poor Abyssal champion, didn't get in melee in all. Thanks for the video.
Nice yea i play and lost track and played for 5 hours lol its very good i suggest elvs next i maxed out the master swords very goof ofsense ooppset to the deep guard
@@zeta490 Haha same, it is very much a just one more fight/event and then I'll stop, but then suddenly it's a couple hours later. I'll probably play something less shooty like undead next, but I will get to the elves eventually probably, because I want to play more.
the +1 spell attack gives you an extra use of your spells afaik
@@keestimmer3759 Oh good to know. Some of the stats are a bit unclear.
Looking at the combat log at 14:53 it looks like it does give an extra hit for the spell though.
It says it fired 3 bolts, but there were 4 hits and the knife ears made 4 saving throws.
man i love this channel you made me discover this gem and got me into 40k(the game's name is basically written with the medieval "u", here in italy they wrote it with a "v" until the 1800s LOLL)
That's awesome! I'm glad you like it! But I don't know if i should be happy or concerned that I got you into 40k (figurine crack, you'll be huffing paint in no time :P). I know, it's been pointed out to me, and now I keep doing it because it's SOVL to me, the name stuck.
Recently had a run ended one fight before the final boss of Act 2 due to the extremely annoying wood elves while playing as the Undead Necromancer, treants are the bane of my existence The Imperial wizard is the most fun though, a mortar plus 2 cannons, 2 light cav, an archer, and a halberd just deletes everything.
@@dragonace119 Oof that's rough. I can imagine single entity monsters being rough for the undead. Haven't tried the humans yet but that sounds pretty nuts.
@@lazygrouse Yeah undead can be extremely painful if your unlucky but having an undead giant (which has stench that rerolls attackers and can get a boulder throw) and hex of ruin is a must have but their skeleton and vampire knights more than make up for it. Necromancer's starting spell also lets you revive undead models and can later get a spell thats more focused on healing high wound undead which sadly fellbats and dire wolves do not count as undead otherwise its fellbats all the way.
Imperial and Dwarf cannons and just delete high wound targets extremely easily and the mortars just vaporize large numbers low wound models on par with inferno cannons but with the range of a cannon. Light cav however might be the most busted unit due to having the mobility and wound of a knight but having guns that attack twice. Halberds are underrated due to their guaranteed high attack roll but footknights tend to be better.
Yeah, ranged has balancing issues. Outside of artillery it's often kinda irrelevant in mixed armies, mainly due to it having now effect on morale and the AI being unable to rally. In pure ranged armies however it's unreasonably powerful as no movement penalties and the alternating turn order allowing you to run circles around the foe whilst plinking of short ranged shots.
@@dragonace119 The giant sounds pretty great, do you have to get them through an event or can you start with it? Hex is indeed great, having been on both sides of hex of ruin.
Yeah, the cannons are amazing, gotta try the Imperial eventually too, they seem neat.
@@scelonferdi I think my issues with range isn't that it doesn't affect moralen because I think killing units is always useful since that means fewer units that can fight back, plus more ranks gives moralen bonus. My problem is that shooting skill and fighting skill seems to use the same skill so units can't be good at shooting and bad at fighting.
Would love to see more of this
@@mrhype1616 There will be more.
@@lazygrouse Whooooooo hooooo
The deep guard had an 18 K/D like they are insane
Haha, that is pretty nuts.
Flame cannon on the dwarfs is rly op had It once and it killed a hole unit for 10 guys after some lvls for it
@@lionmaster5799 I didn't know the flame cannon was in the game. That sounds sweet.
@@lazygrouse oh shi.... I didnt wanted to spoiler it im sry
@@lionmaster5799 don't worry about, I don't mind spoilers in this kind of game. At least not on what units are in the game because that just makes me look forward to trying them out.
I know you call them Chaos Dwarves due to warhammer's lore on such things for the dwarves, but I thought differently when my first foreman got a power. (and I kid you not, name was Dain Ironfoot) I got the spell Wildform, +1 Att +1 Power, and immediately went to the Wildhammer dwarves of warcraft. They have a more shamanistic connection to the earth than most other dwarves and such your primal fury would fit perfectly for such homebrew lore.
Comment for the algorithm and a reminder, while the rules/gameplay are warhammer similar, the lore is whatever you make it with each run. Like my mighty Durin Stoutfoot, Ranger who got ridiculously lucky with events, early wyvern mount and level ups that allowed him to solo 3 giants in the final battle on dif 5.
@@TheStormfury For sure, it is what you want it to be. I just play a lot of Warhammer and it is so similar so I naturally just lean in to it.
He really does hate that sorceress, doesn't he?
@@kylekonop4801 Who, me? I liked my sorceress, I might just be bad at using her. :p
