    Funny think about dinosaurs being "dumb" or driven by instincts because their brains were more similar to crocodilians is, crocodilians have been proven to be fairly intelligent. Not bird level intelligent, but they can plan, they learn to recognize people or objects fairly quickly and they can not only be trained, but can remember the training for years.

    • @feuryie
      @feuryie 5 лет назад +19

      they can also adapt fairly quickly to brand new environments. i saw a short doc on how crocs in india i believe adapted to sitting in certain positions when a dam was constructed to catch the fish better. they're quite a bit smarter than people normally give them credit for

      @@Gasmaskmax He doesn't speak for everyone. It's obvious to most what Fight Club is going to be about so why is he bemoaning the obvious?, comparing dinosaurs to intelegent complex wolves was a cheap jibe with no scientific accuracy whatsoever. Dinosaurs would be far more like to aggression than modern day wolves with their complex familly structure. Don't agree with his wining. Title says what it is so why does he moan ? We know of the other side of dinosaurs from books & other docus etc. Just sit bk & enjoy this for what it is. End of.

    • @rjrinal2516
      @rjrinal2516 3 года назад +2

      @@michealtaylor7745 For the most part, you're correct, but Hoops is not bemoaning everything, he's simply pointing out how a show of this genre should and shouldn't focus on. This is simply supposed to be enjoyed as a non-educational fun tv show with dinosaur fights, instead it's supposed to be an educational docu-series, which it isn't. I'd watch it if it wasn't, I still quite enjoy this, but it is trashing on what most of us paleontology lovers enjoy. And there is plenty of evidence showing intelligence in dinosaurs, while probably not as smart as wolves, the analogy is still there, and dinosaurs aren't what they're depicted as in JFC. WWD handles this topic well because it focus on dinosaurs living their daily lives while still conveying information and keeping interesting with storytelling and the occasional action as well as displaying the animals in a way that tells a story about them and the creatures they share the environment with. So yes, I agree that this should be enjoyed as the opposite of what it is, but what it's supposed to be is just sad, and you can't ignore it.

    @LegitEliminator 6 лет назад +16

    I do respect your opinion and I do agree to point that animals fighting each other isn't best way to showcase premise for documentary. But, there's point where I have to disagree, the show is aimed at actual discoveries (in some episodes) and try to make accurate recreation of that battle. Sometimes, the episodes just focus on who would win in fight against who. Now, I will talk about animations or dinosaur models, even though models for most of creatures are outdated, they look realistic, in terms of having muscle movements and models look pretty life like. Honestly, I understood where the premise was going, so I was mainly looking forward to fights and I knew what I was in for.

  • @thoughtfuldevil6069
    @thoughtfuldevil6069 5 лет назад +39

    The sad part is the CGI is so great, with all the jiggling muscles and realistic movements; barring the naked raptors, most of the dinosaurs have vivid, eye-catching color schemes. It's a shame such good creature design went to such great waste on such a shallow, vapid show.

    Great review! My biggest gripe with this show aside from inaccuracies and violent portrayals of prehistoric animals, is 40 minutes of reguritated lectures, and finally when we get to the battles, Dinosaur George has to pause the scene every five seconds to explain what's happening, as if the audience couldn't figure it out on their own.

    Animals fighting can actually be very interesting. It could go into how an animal's anatomy would affect how they fight.
    Imagine it's showing an Allosaurus fighting something. Allosaurus had a decently weak bite force, making scientists theorize that it used its head like an axe. It could then talk about how that could damage the skull, or how this is possible, etc.

    I never realized how much these people shitted on Ceratosaurus. It was the punching bag for big (Obviously favorited) dinosaurs like Allosaurus. Poor thing got brutally mutilated multiple times. And at the same time, these ''educators'' would mock the dinosaur. I think its safe to say that the people behind Jurassic Fight Club did NOT like Ceratosaurus!
    I also want to mention how aggravating It was seeing how STUPID they'd make these dinosaurs. Will never get over an Allosaurus taking on a massive saurpod when it has a dead ceratosaurs, baby AND adult stego free for it to eat off to the side.

      I mean, there's plenty of fossils with injuries, either fatal or healed. Going into the mechanics of how extinct fauna fought while cutting down the not-fighting parts would present a substantial amount of material, whether directly based on the injuries seen on known fossils or just extrapolation. Seems this film just wanted to throw two dead things at each other and say it's science, though.

      Super Mario Logan Fan Velociraptor Vs. Protoceratops actually WAS planned to be an episode at one point, according to George Blassing. But what you have to remember is that nearly each of the episodes in this series is based on a specific fossil find. So here are a couple of examples for Season 2 ideas based on that criteria:
      1. Desert Duel: Velociraptor Vs. Protoceratops (based on the Fighting Dinosaurs fossil of those two fighting each other).
      2. Battle Of Paluxy River: Acrocanthosaurus Vs. Paluxysaurus (the iconic Dinosaur trackway at Dinosaur Valley State Park in Texas).

    What annoyed me about this series was how factual inaccurate the show was.
    Granted as time goes on, you expect shows like these to become factually inaccurate.
    The problem is though, that from the very beginning practically everything they said was wrong, be it constantly oversizing animals, getting time periods completely wrong, or literally coming up with random “facts” about these animals that had no basis or was even thought up at time the series aired

      Majungasaurus is erroneously referred to as the junior synonym, "Majungatholus", possibly because the name sounded cooler
      The legs on the Majungasaurus model are too long; Majungasaurus actually had very short legs, they even comment on the species having short legs during the episode
      The Triassic is labeled as lasting from 225-193 MYA; however, it was actually 251-201 MYA
      Also, a Deinonychus is shown under Triassic, strangely, despite living in the Early Cretaceous. The model was possibly there to fill in for an early theropod from the Triassic, such as Eoraptor or Coelophysis
      The Jurassic is labeled as 193-136 MYA, and this is also wrong; the Jurassic began 201 MYA and ended 145 MYA
      the Cretaceous is labeled from 136-55 million years ago. This is incredibly wrong; the Cretaceous began 145 MYA and ended 66 MYA. 55 million years ago, the world was in the middle of the Eocene epoch of the Cenozoic. It is unknown as to how such a major error occurred
      These are only a few examples of a huge range I could’ve picked from

    Hey, Hoops and Dino Man, have you heard of Genndy Tartakovsky's "Primal"? It's kind of like this, but it drops all pretense of being educational and just focuses on action and world building.
    It's about a neanderthal (named, "spear") and a T-Rex ("fang") journeying around the world, leaving everything out there that tries to kill them- and by that I mean EVERYTHING out there- in bloody pieces behind them. It takes a few liberties with the prehistoric creatures in favor of the setting, but I think it's worth a watch.
    Then again, given your opinion on this.... Eh, just check it out and see what you think. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

    I think my personal biggest problem with this show was that it perpetuates the kind of infantile approach to dinosaur science, which is to say... The only topic that ever gets discussed is to argue over which dinosaur would beat which in a fight. It frustrates me when I see it being the topic of conversation, as if though there isn't more to dinosaurs (or any animal) than just killing one another, or if that is somehow the crown jewel of all existence. It's so banal and uninspired, and we really do not need any more pandering to that line of thinking.

    Another great review DinoMan! ^^
    I really like it, how you took your time actually explaining your problem with this show. All those little examples, just like in your review on _March of the Dinosaurs_ really made your point clear. And that's something special, because I'm certain most people wouldn't put their effort into explaining those points in such detail but rather just mention them.
    But through your explanation I can totally agree with your arguments and furthermore I'm feeling educated ;)
    As for _Jurassic Fight Club_ I don't have that many memories of that show. I remember it being aired on some private TV-channels, with commercial-breaks, quiz-shows, blockbuster and sitcom-evenings and stuff, ..... seemed fitting to me.
    However what I do remember, was that those scientist made many experiments in testing the strength of said animals. Testing their bones durability and their jaws and claws strength etc, and this was very cool and interesting in my opinion. Although I do not know if that may was in a whole different show 'cause there was a similar show with fighting recent animals instead of prehistoric ones.
    So to speak, if that whole experimental stuff wasn't in Jurassic Fight Club, that would also have been a nice improvement on the show.
    Anyway keep up the great work!
    To may provide further review-inspiration I can highly recommend David Attenborough's _First Life_ , but you certainly already know that one ;)

    Never watch Jurassic Fight Club in my life (and I usually tend to avoid it because even before this video I found premisse for a documentary unappealing) but what strikes me how much its main selling point being the violent cgi death battle, the show isn't shooting itself in the foot anymore but severing its foot and give it to lunch in a enclosure full crocodiles to then enter a marathon.
    I was once watching tv and I stumbled by chance onto a short animal documentary series I can't remember the name right now.
    The premise is simple, you had a guy who I swear looks like the janitor character from Scrubs serving as host and presented you archives of hunting scenes from several documentaries. The show then present both animals included in the scenes in small quips, analyzing the overrall strategies of the predator and the prey, letting the audience understand and speculate on how it would end before showing the full clip. Each episodes featured 3 hunt scenes that follows certain themes, one was about the hunting strategies of wild canids, one whose hunters are tree dwellers, one was about the cephalopods etc etc.
    Compared to other docs, it's certainly not the best around but this show showcased why JFC on the wrong tracks. It's not because the former ("the hunt show") decided to focus on a small aspect of these animals lifes, as well the most violent part and presumably most untertaining that it forgets it's still a documentary and as such, puts on a show as well actually teaches you things (for example, the tree hunters, features a clip with Chimpanzees... as predators hunting smaller monkeys, I never knew that personnaly and actually mad eme discovered an aspect of the animal's lifestyle I didn't knew about before). And it's not the only way a doc can give you an action packed and thrilling premisse for a documentary, look at Chased by Seamonsters that sells the prehistoric seas we explored as the most dangerous seas in history, it still workd because it doesn't not forget to be a documentary as well.
    Speaking of which, the review made by Red Raptor Writes leaves no doubt that JFC is one of the worst example a prehistoric documentary taking huge liberties with reality. It often happens with these that they walk the line of creating fictionnal stories using real things. I'm always on edge on the subject, IMO a documentary shouldn't lie to you but good things can be created from liberties taken. For example, the walking with series has a lot animals coexisting when they should not, or showcasing things way that contradicts what scientists said was true and are still true today (one of he biggest contender IMO, Basilosaurus being showacased as a ocean predator when it was likely that it dwelled in the mangroves of egypt, rendering the whole plot of Whale Killer non sense), but in spite of that, the walking with approach not was interessting but also, if I didn't knew about the basilosaurus thing, this honestly wouldn't seem too fafetched at face value, which makes it more tolerable. While JFC, I may have not watched it but thanks to a review of RRW Not only they actually delivers true facts that they then disregard as if it real infos were just for fluffs and worse, when they make speculative choice, its huge strecth overrall, like making the T-Rex bites like what we believed the Komodo dragon worked with the bacteria infected jaw. A huge strecth coming off from a wrong idea on top of that.
    I can like a dumb blockbuster featuring dinos as much as liking a documentary but JFC seems to try to be both and without some kind of miracle, it only ended up becoming a weird The Thing like mess. Seperatly they can be entertaining on their own way for very different reasons but fused together without any kind of thought, it just leaves you with confused product.

    • @speedracer2008
      @speedracer2008 2 года назад +1

      Not gonna lie, I enjoyed JFC as a kid, partly because of the dinosaur action, but also because it featured dinosaur species that I hadn't seen before in documentaries. However, looking back on it, I do agree that there's a lot of focus on violence in the show. I think more documentaries should be like Walking with Dinosaurs, presenting a prehistoric world with animals in it, acting as though it were our own. The animals would be doing peaceful things, not just needlessly fighting all the time. Maybe that might seem boring to some people, but I think it would definitely be entertaining.
