bloody hell ! we just didn't know how good we had it back then ay ,we lived in the best times and had the best music and talent life was fantastic , that was so good listening and watching phil and mat again god bless em
There are hundreds, if not thousands of really good songs which are released every year. If you seriously believe that this era was the last of the good songs, you're either pulling for likes or an idiot. You just need to look. Most of those songs don't get air play because station managers want revenue, so just play shit music.
Matt Taylor Phil Manning Band, Subiaco Hotel 1981, I was only 19 and boy did they light a fire in my music life. Cherished days from long ago will never be forgotten. They knew how to perform live music and thrill the crowd.
My kids don’t believe how good things were back in our day. Some of the ‘unbelievable’ events that we witnessed, experienced and practiced ARE to be believed !!!
My oldest brother passed this morning at 2am and he was Chains roadie. So I'm just doing some reminiscing ❤ Love you Matty, Phil & Co. We definitely had fantastic live music. ❤
First time hearing this.. I was born in 82... Seems as tho I was late to the party haha. Man, how awesome is this gig?!! I've just purchased to vinyl to play it on my record player!
Memories! I remember when I was young - the Beatles Turned Me on, they Really Blew My Mind.... And to think Matt's lyric was written in the early 70's, that makes me feel old.... What a hard rock CLASSIC!
i was there...what an incredible 2 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Long gone are the days when music of this calibre was written and performed. Aussie bands are THE BEST!!!
Peter Rech agreed peter. i have now revised the way i calculate age. this year i am 70 and see it as 7. when i turn 71 i will be eight by adding 7 and 1 together etc.when i was 51 i added 5 and 1 together which made my age as 6. so i will never grow old.
Two of my best memories are seeing both Matt and Phil perform the old Chain songs - sadly not together - but they were both awesome. Huge talents and great music.
Great stuff. I was absolutely blessed to work during this golden age of Australian music. I played and had a small sound and lighting company from the mid 70s until 84 based in Sydney. Just before this performance I was doing FOH for a young band for three weeks at a den of iniquity called The Bombay Rock in Surfers Paradise. The last weekend Matt and Chain came in for two nights. I still remember how well they treated the young band I worked for. Spent a lot of time talking to them, encouraging them etc. Great musicians, even better people.
I was at this concert. With a bottle of Bundy tipped into a 2 litre bottle of TAB diet cola. You couldn't find a bottle of Coke anywhere in Melbourne before the show 😂
I had never herd of these guys until I went to the Hacienda Hotel in Ferntree Gully in the early eighties and wow did they blow my socks off. To this day, the best pub gig I have ever experienced.
Don't forget to see Chain when they are around next. Phil Mannings website lists all the latest gig information (Chain's gigs are listed below Phil's solo gigs on his Tour page).
Still getting it right after all these years. Great bloke, raconteur...pretty average cricketer. Love ya', mate. And Phil Manning? Don't get me started. My band did supports for them in the early eighties - great musos, fantastic blokes.
+Ryan Baker l new Matt not well but he lived on Urantia in the 70's which was a new age commune.. lol he offered to teach my young self how to play guitar and l blew it off..
SHIT, I remembered those good AUSSIE bands from the early 70s. CHAIN, spectrum , blackfeather , la de das, sherbet , master apprentice, music express , zoot , Billy Thorpe, fraternity ( with bon Scott as frontman , haha. )
Matt Taylor, Phil Manning & Chain performing a great Australian classic, Matt playing his Schecter Stratocaster and Phil his Schecter Telecaster both guitars custom built for them in Australia by RAM Music Imports Sth Yarra.....Enjoy
I was at this gig too, both days. At the time, I wasn't as interested in the 'old hippy stuff' like Chain, being at that time more into the New Wave groups who were mostly on the first day. It was only later that I've come to appreciate how great some of the early 70s Aussie bands were. So in retrospect, I'm glad to able to say, 'yeah, I was there, I saw this'.
I remember when I was young, too. I was trying to pass maths, pluck fish out of rivers and convince visiting Americans that the black kitten sleeping on our lounge floor was a baby Australian panther. I certainly wasn't writing or performing anything amazing like this! Jeez they could do music back then. Ah, what do I know. I thought it was a panther too!
Chain just played Byron Bay East Coast Festival 2022. First time without Matt Taylor as he couldn't get there and back home due to Covid. I wasn't there but apparently it went well with fill ins. x
Shannon...My great mate. I used to be your live-in babysitter with you and your Mum in Moorabin. You were only 5 and I took you to see ACDC. Wow! I still live in California. Write back, Heather

One day, I was waiting for some friends at the Principal Bar and Restaurant in Midland, WA. I bought a beer and went out side to to drink it. I was sitting at a table and I noticed this bloke sitting at another table who looked very familiar, but I couldn't put a name to the face. Like me, he was by himself, rolling his own and drinking a few beers. I have worked on about 35 remote mine sites in my working life, so I assumed he was someone I had worked with. So, as I do in these situations, I began to go through all of the sites in my head, hoping to make a connection, but I kept coming up with a blank. Finally, this bloke got up and left, walking past me and out to onto Cale Street. When he was out of sight, it suddenly hit me - that was Matt Taylor! Like Matt, I too remember when I was young. Had my memory been better, I might have been able to have a beer with a muso I've admired since Moses played at full back for the Jews. Sorry Matt, I think I owe you a beer, mate!
I was there as well, i took Barry to the Hospital after sound check! He slipped on a banana skin at the front door and did the gig with his left leg in plaster :)
