My absolute favorite, especially with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the best conductor outside of Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa. I had the privilege of many live concerts at Tanglewood, in the Berkshires of Massachusettes. Absolutely superb!!!!
Woweeee what a wonderful, sensitive performance this is. Simon Preston and Maestro Ozawa are perfectly paired. There are sounds coming from the organ and orchestra rarely heard showing great understanding of each other and the composer’s intentions. I am sure Francis Poulenc would be very pleased!!

Has to be the best organ concerto ever written! Ozawa has to be one of the most under rated conductors of the 20th c. I know he is not exactly unknown especially as he was chief conductor of the B.S.O. for many years but his name doesn't seem to come up when the greatest conductors are mentioned which is absurd - he is one of the very best without any doubt.

My Mother's sister was private secretary to Margaret Hillis, founder and Director of the Chicago Symphony Chorus They had a three story house in Glencoe, Il, and a twelve room apartment on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. I spent many occasions as a child with my Aunt, and my family was involved in introducing her to those who would ultimately ask (beg) Hillis to take the position of Musical Director of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra. I led a very interesting childhood.

Interesting to note that the secondary title is (in English) Game of cards. Nicely done by both the orchestra and the organist. Ozawa has a sensitive approach to his performances.
My preference in organ music is for pieces with orchestral accompaniment that offsets the sometimes tiresome hoofing and poofing that detracts from most solo pieces. The orchestra is one of the major reasons why this concerto and the Third Symphony of Saint-Saens are so entertaining.
