    An amazing, riveting performance. Stunning lush strings, a both commanding and yet also a richly sonorous Romantic-era pipe organ, and unparalleled energy, focus and concentration by all the performers. Bravo!

    It would take TEN comments to describe I like in this performance, so I'll just mention a few things: 1) an unusually well-prepared orchestra & a conductor who understands the work's drama; 2) well judged tempos (today I learned that the fast section near the end can build to a greater impact if it doesn't rush); 3) a chance to see how busy a registration assistant can be; 4) excellent sound; 5) great camera work; and I could go on. Thank you, Latvia, for cultivating and presenting this group!

      @@Mezzotenor No, I just read your comment that you, as me, liked this version of Poulenc. For some unknown reason something was wrong with the sound track and I wanted somebody elses´s opinion. But the second time I listened to it, it sounded okay. Thanks and have a good day!

      It's not a complete performance, in case that helps. First six minutes or so is omitted, for whatever reason.

    This is a spectacular performance. I heard details in this performance I didn't hear in any of my recordings. I only wish the beginning was included.

    Without doubt one of the best recordings I've ever heard of this piece. Wanted for years to find a venue/opportunity to perform this but it has never materialized. Bravo to the string players for TRULY playing. If I had it, I'd donate the funds for a new console. Let's hear it for the unappreciated console assistant.

    • @BearAZ
      @BearAZ 10 лет назад

      I sooo agree. One can only assume that the console combination action no longer functions reliably, hence the very able assistant. Bravo also to the recording engineers involved with this amazing video!

    • @briandufresne
      @briandufresne 10 лет назад +2

      BearAZ Seems like some bits of the combination action might be working -- occasionally we catch a glimpse of a manual piston being pressed...? A console assistant as busy as this gent is can't help but miss something (6:29) but bravo without doubt!

    • @BearAZ
      @BearAZ 10 лет назад +1

      Brian du Fresne True enough! The most obvious evidence of, at least, the Tutti working is the giant THUNK right before the final flourish on the organ! That really made me smile. I also considered the possibility that he's the resident organist and knows the instrument really well, and they were limited on time, so it was a "you just play and let me do the rest" kind of arrangement.

    After hearing so many awkward and very un-musical performances of this work, the lady at the console surely deserves a prize for superb playing, a keen sense of the musical sweep of the work. The organist, conductor, orchestra, and acoustics provide an unusually warm and satisfying ensemble, rare in so many recordings of this work.

    I've heard this magnificent piece many times, but never with such clarity and conviction of phrasing and tempi. Why, oh why didn't the entire piece get recorded? Does anyone know if there is a version of this particular recording that is complete? Brilliant playing from everyone! Bravo to the conductor for being so true to Poulenc's score. I agree with Marco Longo... it is THE best performance I've ever heard.

    Nice. But we could not look at the wonderfull facade of this Walcker-organ. After this comment I was written by Marcel Punt a.o. that the Walcker organ is in partly restoration and that is the reason that the facade is not filmed. Thanks for letting me know. This interpretation of Poulenc his Concerto is very fine and the recording is also excellent. Thanks

    A lot of musicians will "gyrate" to the music. I've seen videos where almost the entire orchestra is in motion, especially during a particularly beautiful passage. Watch the saxophonist in the Ravel Bolero/Osaka. That guy really gets into it and with good reason.

    Die Organistin: Sehr sehr hübsch Gesicht hat sie. Bewegen tut sie sich, als verstünde sie die Musik. Bringt sie aber nicht auf die Tasten, hat ein Metronom verschluckt. Romantischen Ausdruck kann die Orgel nur erbringen mittels Agogik. Agogik hier? Null. Metronom im Bauch. Bei aller Ehrerbietung für den Menschen Iveta....Gääähn. Uff. 6:55 Abgehaspel, schnelle Töne, sonst nix, schnell schnell, alles ohne jeden Ausdruck von Inhalt. Ich suchte eben im Netz nach diesem von mir damals mehrmals gespielten Konzert und finde ausschließlich (Krönung 8:38, rein klirrkaltes Abgehaspel) Töne statt Musik.
    Bis Minute 9
    Richtige Töne: 1
    Gestaltungskraft: 6
    Nach 9 war meine Hoffnung, Musik zu vernehmen, verblasst und ich hab ausgemacht, sehr hübsch Gesicht hin oder her.

    Très bonne interprétation . Par contre, je n'adhère pas aux registrations choisies . Après le chiffre 22 ( Edition Salabert) mixtures et anches n'ont pas été tirées ou sonnent fort mal. Le grand jeu avant le chiffre 26 également . L'orchestre arrive parfois a couvrir l'orgue ! Pour ce concerto , c'est à la fois regrettable et peu à propos . Au vu des indications de registration l'orgue doit toujours être "dessus"..

    Regarding the "gyrations" and such, Len Sullivan is correct that they do nothing for the actual sound. However, some wrist and arm motion such as she displayed can aid relaxation and a sense of phasing as well. She just does too much of a good thing here. Knowing that there is a camera pointed at you may also increase the perceived need to be visually "interesting."

    Wonderful performance of this wonderful composition by Francis Poulenc!
    Apparently the idiotographer (videographer) does not know that there are notes played on the pedals with the feet.
    Would like to see more of her hands and less of her face, especially when playing some parts.
    Sad that the beginning is omitted.

    Keeping time, a gyratory body or Pianistic hand motions are unnecessary to the organ technique. One can always tell 'which came first: Piano, or Organ. Her registration and articulation are very good.......but all that other: Unnecessary
