After last episode ”Organic Spine Conditioning“ I now present some of my personal favorites for preparing and conditioning the hips for my personal practice.
Shakira said it before: “Hips don’t lie.“ And well, they really can’t. Having mobile, strong, smooth and pain free hips is great. Especially if they allow you to move in diverse ways and in great ranges.
Focus here: low stance work, rotation of the femur (upper leg bone) in the hip in deep ranges, transitions between basic positions (Figure 4, Squat, Lunge, Kossack) and especially „Movability“.
While I think you can condition your body to SOME extend simply by practicing whatever you are doing (when climbing you are automatically conditioning fingers, hands, etc.) I personally like to include extra conditioning work (on top of climbing also doing some work on campus board, etc.).
The conditioning is then specific to what I am doing as a practice at this time (yes, I think generally preparing your body is fine, specific adaptation is what I'm looking for in my practice though) - so in this case a lot of loading the shoulders in multiangular patterns and strengthening my straight arm support since I use this a lot in my current acrobatics, etc. practice.
As always when trying stuff you see on the interwebbz: take it easy and see by yourself if you can handle the load. If not sure: start with Variation 1 and slowly build up to the full thing within the next weeks/months!
I would recommend to practice all variations every once in a while if you share a similar practice. Between 5 and 8 repetitions, 2 to 4 sets. For the exploration simply move to a song that you like and push until you feel the burn - this is conditioning in the end..

    Happy Conditioning dear people!
