#2 What An Ikea Ficus Ginseng Bonsai Looks Like After 10 Years *Repotting*

- In this video I repot an Ikea Ficus Ginseng, the tree has been through a lot. The branch structure shown in this video has been established the last three years. The original grafted branches died, so this is the trees original foliage. Which start shooting on many Ikea trees shortly after purchase. In this situation you can either choose to keep them or cut them off, I thought I'd try too keep them.
Hope you enjoyed this video, I definitely enjoyed making it. A tree can really get a better look from a more shallow pot. I guess that is what bonsai is all about
A like and subscribe would really help me a lot.

You should see how they grow in Florida!
I could only imagine, we get eight good months of growing😅
The new pot looks way better. 😊
I recently sold my ginseng ficus, she was massive, I needed a bit more space and I personally prefer the tiger bark 😅.
Love the channel so far fella 👍🏻
Thanks, I feel like the more shallow the pot the better the tree looks. Ofcourse there is exceptions. And actually I prefer any other species of ficus, because of the extreme root development on the ginsengs. But it got me into bonsai so I'm happy about that. Im glad you like the channel, thank you for watching 🙏😊
@@ChristenThykjaer no worries dude, it's a good channel. I like that it's a little different to the norm, including my own. 😁
@@bonsaiexpression thanks, I'll check yours out now 💪
Is the best ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤i like🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you! 😉
I have a ginseng ficus in its 5 inch plastic pot. I would like to know what would be the best type of pot and how to determine the size? I've only had it for 2 years and this is my first repot. Do i have to repor or would it be ok in the same pit for a while?
The ficus species is one of the most thankful trees out there. So it shouldn't be a problem for it to stay in there for a while longer until you find a pot you like. When searching for a pot there is a good little rule: Width of the pot has to 2/3 of the trees height. I hope this helps.
I’m guessing these are easy to propagate from root cuttings
Yes they are, in general ficus trees are very easy to work with.
Wow...do you have photos of the ficus when yhou first bought it? I bought an IKEA ficus myself about a month ago, and am not sure what I want to do with it and how best to develop it
Thank you for the wow, and for watching. Unfortunately I don't, I wasn't full of good ideas when I was a teenager, so no picture. Congratulation on the purchase, this is a wonderful hobby. Right now your tree is probably dropping a lot of leaf's, these Ikea Ficus' often do so when they're environment are changed. It is quiet normal, and if not you are a natural. There is a lot of options on how to care for it. Remember to fertilize it, every second week I would say, maybe more often during summer. Water it when it is dry. In the beginning I would do clip and grow bonsai, so cut branches when they get to long. You can also go all in and buy wire, but it can be quiet expensive. These Ikea ficus' have grafted branches, the grafted branches on mine died, so I had to go with the trees natural foliage. It happens all the time. Sorry for the long answer, hope you can use something.😊
@@ChristenThykjaer Thank you so much for the tips! Good luck with your plants too
not rly good i think...
How did the focus recover? I have one that’s been struggling for years now and have no clue how to make it grow back despite repotting and providing it with fertilizer
It has recovered really nicely, if you did all the things as you discribe in your comment. The only thing I could come to think off is if it's getting enough sunlight? For example mine is under a growth light during winter. Ficus trees like a lot of sun.
That is one ugly tree, but all ginseng ficus trees are ugl so it' is not your wrongdoing. Get a better tree! It wil be much more rewarding!
