  • Being perennially popular with a UK audience, as well as salmon and steelheader anglers in the USA and Canada, the market tends to stay nice and stable for these reels. John Stephenson looks at some classic examples of these reels like the Allcock's Aerial's right up to the modern day with the multi-coloured Kingpin reels!

In British Columbia, the holy grail of centre pins are the ones made by Norm MacDonald. They come up for sale about as often as a unicorn's horn, and are quickly sold for premium prices.

Hi Tom, thought you may be the person to ask, I remember seeing a centre pin that would rotate 90 degrees to allow you to cast like a fixed spool reel, once cast you returned it to the normal position with a click! I can't find one anywhere, I thought maybe you could shed some light on this for me? Many thanks

Centre pins are vastly overpriced in comparison to the far more complex fixed spool reels. Why ?
