    man something about the way that reel spins is really beautiful. very helpful video. im a spin cast guy and fly fishing, i can never pick what i want to fish, centerpin looks like a good half way point, so here i am watching every video i can on centerpin fishing. one month to go till the ice is off the river here and i can get out and try.

    you really meant it when you told us it takes practices. 😅 I watched your video couple times and went out with a centerpin set up for the first time. Of course I didn’t remember any of your tutorials and had a bad day 😂😂 couldn’t get the cast down and I snagged whole thing on a tree so just used my spinning reel. thanks for the video. I’m trying to get this down before the salmon season starts in rivers next month!! Appreciate it much 💯👍👍👍👍

    Great video bro. I went out to my local river and had a very hard time. After watching this video my second time out was alot more effective....still no bites but I am getting alot better at casting!

    Great demo man! Just bought the exact same reel and can't wait to try it out at the weekend. I like your take on the casting, you need to understand how to get the best out of the reel but you don't need to follow strict rules. You can tailor it to your own style, whatever works for you, great advice, thanks!

      What’s the reel if you don’t mind me asking

    • @David-yn4cs
      @David-yn4cs 2 года назад

      @@aaoutdoors8334 It's an Okuma Sheffield, great price point and I bought mine before watching this video so I didn't simply copy Vin based on his casting demo. You can pay a lot more and a lot less for different brands/models but this seems to be the value level where you get maximum bang for your buck. It's precision engineered and when I took it out of the box and gave it a spin I was amazed at how silent it was and how long it kept spinning. I would definitely recommend it though with the caveat it is still harder to cast than a fixed spool with a bail arm, so not for everyone.

    I use vintage British Young's and Son's center-pin reels..these reels are in two parts..one attached to the rod and the other which contains the line..of which I attach to my custom made reel holder ...the best thing of these reels is playing the fish..

    Centrepins are actually designed for trotting not casting. I have mine set up the "wrong" way with the line coming off the top which makes it easier to control by thumbing the reel. Mine's a 5.1/2" handle-less version so I just stick my finger in one of the holes to wind in or simply bat it.. It has a long stem so it's easy to get your fingers in between the rim and the seat

    I just ordered a pinland rod, by the end of summer I'm hoping to buy a reel to get used to it before the steelhead start running. I'm in northeast Ohio and unless I'm close to the lake I'm not fishing very big water. Do you have any suggestions for a decent beginner reel that won't destroy my wallet? I'll probably bring my spinning rod or at least the reel just in case as the rod I ordered has a Tennessee handle and can take a spinning reel. When I was younger I mostly fly fished for them and for some reason I stopped doing it until this past year and I preferred my spinning rod. Decided to kinda combine the two

    Thanks for the Demo Video! I just bought an Okuma Raw II -1002 yesterday to put on my 4 piece Amundson 13 ft Kudos Laredo Float rod, that I've been using a Mitchell 300 spinning reel on it until I could afford a Centerpin. I just have to get some line and do a few practice casts in the yard before embarrassing myself in front of all the Centerpin Pros! Maybe throw a peanut on the line and catch a squirrel for practice fight! (Just kidding, Karen)
    Any recommendations for what line(s) to use? Quality line, but not crazy expensive. I use SpiderWire on the spinning reel with flourocarbon leader, is that okay for Centerpin?
    Is the "Backing Line" just to fill up the reel or is there a greater purpose?
    Sorry for all the questions, thanks in advance!

    Can you use this from a boat
    Sea fishing? What’s the advantage from a normal reel?

    • @andrewdking
      @andrewdking 2 года назад

      A centrepin reel is primarily for trotting floats on flowing rivers as he was demonstrating. Probably designed by us Brits for use on Hampshire's (an English country in the far south) chalk streams e.g. the River Avon, Stour, Test and Itchen. It would be hopeless in the sea. For sea and boat use, there is always the Alvey reel if you want a reel of similar shape
