Another tip to add to the “do & dont” list is: if you are sleepy, fatigued or just not in mood to sew then don’t force yourself to sew because you will make mistakes and get frustrated.
How nice of the person who donated the Christmas Bundle fabric. I would love to put this pretty bundle to use in making the Split Nine Patch/Shortcut pattern from your episode #89 posting. I value your opinions and techniques, Maureen. Happy quilting!
I really enjoy your videos and would make really good use of the Christmas Bundle. I’ve not yet seen all of your videos, so I’m not sure if you’ve covered the topic of teaching young people/kids to sew. We need to bring new quilters into the fold.
I love to listen to all your tips...does and don't 's was spot on❤ The more I quilt the more I do and don't do these very items that you listed... I would love to win the Christmas bundle...the holiday fabrics are my favorite 😍
Your sewing tips are always appreciated. I make Christmas quilts for my neighbors and would love the happy Christmas Bundle. I didn't know that Project Linus didn't take Christmas fabric quilts. I'll have to check with my local chapter. I know I have donated some scrappy tops that may have had bits of Christmas scraps. Thank you again for your great ideas. Ideas for program: repeat foundation piecing using various methods, favorite tools and why, using templates accurately and products such as Best Press why or why not to use them.
Christmas bundle!! Your videos are my Monday after-work must watch. Can you do an episode on fidget quilts for seniors? What’s a good size? What fidget blocks are best?
Another great video! I do have a subject suggestion, like you say I try to always sew with the top fabric seam allowance going through the machine first, but when I do have one where it folds down its hell to pay. Please help! I've tried different feet, pins on both sides of the intersection, sticking my nose down by the needle with flashlight in hand to watch, you name it. What is your best way to tackle those pesky intersections? PS: Yes, I love the Christmas Bundle!
Good Morning Maureen! Thank you! Thank you! I have sent my info to you for the Worlds Greatest Scrap Quilt💕 As always, this episode is a “Keeper” for my instruction list of better methods to achieve quilting success! The Christmas bundle will be a beautiful addition for Christmas gift giving! One recommendation, since you asked, is a demo on squaring up yardage when getting ready to cut proper pieces. I have found, even in high quality brand fabrics, they are wonky off the bolt! How to press and establish the yardage is on-grain would be extremely helpful right out the gate💕🧵
Suggestion: I like to do machine blanket stitch applique and know that I should use a stabilizer but which one? There are so many out there. Can you help me narrow the field down? Thanks.
Christmas bundle Hi Maureen, thank you for your Tips and tricks! I used to teach in a quiltshop in Vienna, Austria for almost 20 years and most of the time I agree to your opinion. Keep on stitching! Regards Edda Katz 😊
Great advice! Because I had to teach myself how to quilt back in the ‘80’s, it took me many years to understand the importance of grainlines. I could never figure out why my blocks turned out so badly. Also I didn’t know about starching back then which would have been a big help.
All great tips! They should be called The Quilter's Code! Practice blocks are essential, especially if it's a block or technique new to me. I have a couple of yards of fabric that I bought a few years ago and that I use exclusively for practice blocks. It's fabric that I absolutely hate - I have no idea what I was thinking when I bought it. I'll never use it in a quilt, but it serves its purpose for test blocks and dog bed stuffing.
Love your tips. I would love the Christmas Bundle to make quilt for great granddaughter. I would love tips on making dog bed with scraps so it does come apart when washed!
Video Idea: Mixing pre-washed and dried cottons along with new cottons into the same quilt. How does that turn out upon a first wash? Do things go wonky, stretch, or pull? We need a scientific laundry experiment, lol. Thanks for your videos. I always learn a good new tip.
Thank you so much for talking about the seam direction! No one ever seems to and it makes assembly so much easier when done this way. Christmas Bundle!
Another great video. I'm mostly self-taught and there are things that those who show a technique assume everyone knows but I appreciate that you point out the little bits that make a difference between success/happiness and frustration. I know as a Bernina dealer you have embroidery machines. How about some every other week embroidery lessons? Thank you again.
I just love your videos. I agree with your pressing to the dark 100% and having the top seam face up. It's the way I sew as often as possible. Also, Studio 180 rulers are the best!
Great tips. I totally agree on the HST construction and not following a pattern when there is more appropriate way of constructing a unit, particularly when patterns use methods that waste fabric.
I always remember Deb Tucker's video on having a string of blocks with bias on the outside sewn together. That row stretched like taffy. As always, you offer straightforward and practical tips. Some shortcuts will lead you down an alley where you will encounter lurking dangers!
Christmas bundle! :-) This would be so fun to play with! A topic suggestion--how best to put rows together, once all blocks are made. I seem to be able to hold precision when doing individual blocks, but tend to get sloppy when putting the blocks together.
Omg Maureen! Couldn't agree with you more about doing what makes you happy. I have made two double wedding ring patterns during my quilting journey hoping I would learn to love them and almost everyone has made one. Never did enjoy the process nor the finished product. Expensive lesson learned😢. Joanne from canada.
Christmas Bundle. What a nice giveaway. This was a great show. I make a practice piece so I can figure out how to press. Thanks for a informative video
I always enjoy your videos and learn so much! You cover things I don't consider and it's always helpful! Christmas bundles are my favorite and so fun to work with!
Thank you for your tips & tricks… I love your pragmatism & appreciate your professional experience! There’s no substitute for experience! Patterns I avoid due to a technique I hate (because I can’t seem to get them right w/o using Terrial to make my fabric like paper & that’s just too expensive) is ‘snow balling’ the corners. On videos it looks easy. But it’s torture for me. And I’d love that Christmas fabric.
I look forward to Monday mornings and your videos. Thank you so much for doing them. BTW... Your hair looks really nice today. A suggestion for you might be to show all the different ways to do FPP. Thanks again from a Canadian viewer/listener/student. - Big Hugs.
I really enjoy your informative videos. I am excited to try my hand at quilting. I hope to chose a beginner project soon. The Christmas bundle would be just in time. Keep sharing your love and knowledge of quilting.
Thanks for the great tips, especially the ones about the bias direction. I usually cut my HST's and QST's with Accuquilt, but if I'm using scrap pieces, its hard to test every little piece for stretch. I would love the Christmas Bundle.❤
I came across your video a while ago. What struck me was your honesty and today’s video was great. I’ve been quilting for 16 years but it’s great to have a “refresher” because sometimes we let things slide or forget. Thank you for your time and attention to detail. Love it, from Linda C in Trenton,Ontario Canada
Christmas Bundle! Thank you for the tips! Video idea: What is the importance of setting seams? Some teachers say always do it and others say it's not important.
I love all your videos! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge! I also appreciate your honest, practical tips. It was nice of someone to donate the Christmas bundle.
Thanks! Recently could have avoided a redo if I had made a practice block with what I thought would be a simple 4 patch! Although had pressed all to dark, I hadnt sewn all in the same orientation so the seams didnt nest in the pattern orientation needed. 16:01 Would love to practice with that Christmas bundle!
Christmas Bundle. I would love to win your Christmas fabric. A mouse problem last year ruined my whole box of holiday fabric and I don't have any at all. LOL - I have definitely learned that your suggestion on making a practice block is "necessary" first step for me. I always learn something that helps me work better. I even have a shoebox of "ugly" and cheap fabric that I save just for making practice pieces.
OH that Christmas Bundle would make a fantastic quilt to make! I haven't bought any Christmas fabric this year either. Thanks for the explanation of how to feed in those blocks. I never really thought about it. I personally HATE pinning while I'm sewing. It always seems like I'm wasting time removing pins, dropping pins, fiddling with pins. YUCK! hahaha
Christmas bundle. Thanks for all your tips. I’d really like to be able to look at a pattern and see if there are different easier ways to do it, that seems like such a great skill and maybe will come with time!
Love the pinning tip - and I'm learning that my machine treats the seam layouts differently. I'm shopping for a Christmas bundle now. I just can't decide which I want. All the lines are so cute!
Bundle! What beautiful fabric!! Have really enjoyed your content. I’m still hoping you still plan to do the update on your Gammil show. Thank you for keeping your content relatable. Perhaps a show on matching flying geese with striped fabric?
That Christmas Bundle would find a happy home in my sewing room. I'm working on a World's Greatest Scrap Quilt and I'm so glad I took your advice about choosing scraps intentionally. This one is all lighter fabrics instead of the brights I usually do and it's looking great. If I hadn't listened to you, I would have thrown anything in and the final result would probably have looked like it! Love, love, love your channel.
I’ve learned never to do something that can’t be undone when I’m tired or sick. So, no cutting. I don’t mind seam ripping and resewing. Thanks for your tips. I love the Christmas bundle.
I used to teach quilting workshops & all your tips are things I included in my presentations. Excellent advice. There’s so much out there that gives people really bad techniques dressed up as “super easy” but ends up frustrating them. Just taking a little extra time to utilize good techniques pays off in both enjoyment of the process & the result! Thank you for all of your content & opinions 🤩
Christmas Bundle! Love your channel! I have learned so much! Have you ever sewn with Liberty of London Tana Lawn? Would love to see an episode on that!
Another tip to add to the “do & dont” list is: if you are sleepy, fatigued or just not in mood to sew then don’t force yourself to sew because you will make mistakes and get frustrated.
Or even worse, you might get injured.
Have you ever done a videi on sewing curves? That's something I avoid, but with some good guidance I would give it a try. Thanks!!
How nice of the person who donated the Christmas Bundle fabric. I would love to put this pretty bundle to use in making the Split Nine Patch/Shortcut pattern from your episode #89 posting. I value your opinions and techniques, Maureen. Happy quilting!

Maureen, I just love your hair cut!❤It’s so very pretty. Another thing I also learn so much from your tutorials.

Try a stylus.
That Christmas bundle and charm pack is lovely. Such fun fabric.
Good Morning Maureen! Thank you! Thank you! I have sent my info to you for the Worlds Greatest Scrap Quilt💕

Great tips, even for more experienced quilters. And, the Christmas Bundle is beautiful!
Thank you for the tips. I agree that you have to like the fabric you are using to have fun sewing. I really like the Christmas Bundle.
Christmas bundle.
Your videos are so helpful to me. I always look forward to them, they are full of great tips and advice!
Suggestion: I like to do machine blanket stitch applique and know that I should use a stabilizer but which one? There are so many out there. Can you help me narrow the field down? Thanks.
Thank you for all your great tips and advice! The Christmas bundle is beautiful and such a lovely and generous donation.

That is a beautiful CHRISTMAS BUNDLE and very generous of the giver. Thank you for sharing.

Christmas Bundle! Good morning. Love your videos. Great tips. Have a wonderful week ahead 😊❤
Christmas Bundle giveaway. My favorite time of the year. Love your videos especially when you talk about correct way of doing things
I like your list of Do's and Don'ts, thank you. We all need to set ourselves up for success! That is a pretty Christmas bundle.
Great tips. I totally agree on the HST construction and not following a pattern when there is more appropriate way of constructing a unit, particularly when patterns use methods that waste fabric.

@@notesfromleisa-land - “Stretched like taffy” BEST comment of the day‼️🎉🎉🎉
If you have not covered it before, would you create a video on machine binding (front & back) for donation quilts. Thank you.
Wonderful tips! thank you. The Christmas bundle is wonderful. Thanks for the chance to win this.

That's a nice Christmas bundle. Thank you for your advise to quilters new & experienced.
Christmas bundle I would make good use of it. I agree with you on the straight of grain. It keeps your quilt from going wonky.
Christmas Bundle. What a nice giveaway. This was a great show. I make a practice piece so I can figure out how to press. Thanks for a informative video
I have used up all of my Christmas fabric, so this Christmas Bundle would be a great way to build it up again.😊
