  • I can't believe it's been 10 years since the 50 craze! Here is a video of my 50 and what's done to it. I was working on my friend's XR50 & XR70 this week and was searching RUclips and forums for specs on adjusting the carbs and what not and got lost watching videos on RUclips of pretty bad ass 50's. So, I figured I'd upload a quick walk around of my 50 and listing out all the mods/upgrades I've done to it. After I add it all up, it makes me sick how much I've got invested into this thing! LOL Anyways, comment, questions, like it, hate it...whatever works! Thanks for checking it out...

    People always say why don't you just buy a 250 etc, with all the money you put into iit but the fun is restoring these bikes.
    I have three sons and restored three CRF 50 and 70's to mint condition.
    My Sons now at 12, 9 and 6 can Basically build a dirt bike and I am nowhere near Bullshitting. I taught them since they were 4 yrs old. Best Hobby and fun u can have. Great Job !!!!!

      It's so tough to find good aftermarket parts now for CRF50s...since the popular "pit bike" is a 110 now. That swing arm I have doesn't even exist anymore. Good luck with your build!

    I love this bike. I have a question hopefully you'll help me brother.
    I have a 2015 stock crf 50 and I notice all fmf core pipes for 2015 crf 50's stick way out like you mentioned in your video.
    I love that your fmf core pipe is hidden and does not stick out.
    Will this same fmf pipe fit on my 2015 crf 50?
    If it would fit what year is this fmf exhaust pipe ?
    I need to order one ASAP.
    Thanks for any input brother! #teamhonda

    • @hazmatt81

      Cause Merica the front forks are Sano Bombshell and the swingarm is a Lahaye Racing 3” extendend swingarm. I don’t believe either of them are still around. I got the swing arm new but the forks I found on Craigslist.

      Nicholas Nelms they are Sano Bombshell forks. Got em off a kid on Craigslist. Not sure if they’re even produced anymore.

    Is there any cheap front forks that raise the bike and add hight to it

  • @larmishing
    @larmishing 7 лет назад +2

    I'm looking to get into dirt biking. I have a 48cc 4 stroke gas bike that I work on so I understand the components of the engines but I still have a lot of questions. I would want to get a pit bike / little bike to just ride around my neighborhood and get on the little trails in my canyon like my friends do on 50s, 70s, and 100s. I can't decide on what bike to get; I have two on my mind, the Honda XR70 and the Honda XR50. I weigh about 130 lbs and I'm 5'6. I know both of those bikes wouldn't be the correct size but I don't want to overwhelm a motor and blow it up or break a component because of my size. I also am concerned about insurance, I'm not sure how much insurance is or how it really works with dirt bikes. Overall all I want is a little fun thing...

    • @ADR9471
      @ADR9471 7 лет назад

      T Getz I don't believe you would brake a 50 because of your size, as far as insurance my bike (a 2012 ttr 110) doesn't have any. If you are looking for cheap but reliable options welsh pit bikes has some great 110's for a low price, their website is here: www.wpbracing.co.uk/stomp-pitbikes-price-guide

    • @hazmatt81
      @hazmatt81  7 лет назад +1

      The Honda motors are Bullet proof. Keep up on the oil changes and you'll be fine. I'm 200lbs and haven't had a motor issue at all. The only thing I would recommend is upgrading the fork springs and rear shock to accommodate for your weight. Also for comfort I'd also get the big handlebars upgrade kit to make it feel better. Even with the 70 I would do the same upgrades. Good luck...

      @larmishing 7 лет назад

      Matt Carroll okay cool, since commenting, I've gotten an SSR 110DX for $100 on Craigslist and it runs perfectly, I'm looking to get a 50 anyways too.

      Donald Trump I already got an SSR 110DX as mentioned in my comment

  • @hazmatt81
    @hazmatt81  11 лет назад

    It depends what you're wanting out of the bike. If you wanna go tear up some tracks and out riding in the hills, I'd say stick to a bigger bike. If you're looking just to put around and aren't too worried about speed then hook up your 50. But, that's just my thoughts. I've put way too much into mine and I barely ride it. But, it definitely doesn't make sense to sell it because I'd just be throwing away too much money. It's fun when I wanna take it out.

  • @hazmatt81
    @hazmatt81  11 лет назад

    I'm not sure 100% if you can or can't use the stock shock on the BBR swing arm. I think the aftermarket swingarm may create a different/longer mounting point, so you may need an aftermarket shock, like an iShock. If you've got the swingarm, I'm sure you'll want a heavier duty shock as well.

      They are Sano Bombshell Forks. During that "Era" they were one of the best forks/manufacturers around for aftermarket parts on 50's. But have been long gone for over a decade now. I was lucky to find them on Craigslist back in the day and got the triple clamps, bar mounts, forks and the 12" front wheel with tube and tire for $500. I think the forks alone back then were over $500 alone.

      Nate Dogg I have an ishock on mine. It's actually a shock for a Honda 70CRF but it's because I have the extended swing arm. The ishock line seems to be the most popular one for any rear shock upgrade on a 50 though.

      jim bob I’m not 100% but I would imagine the frame accepts most of not all 50 sized forks. Stock ones are non inverted forks and have very minimal travel (obviously kids don’t need much travel). But there are lots of after market 50 forks out there. The inverted are going to be higher priced. Just depends what you need.

    It was one of the only single "mono swing arms" out when I bought it back in 2003. For the price I like it, but the design is a little shotty. Had to do some modding/grinding to make it fit. But it did the job and gave some awesome travel and looked way better than the cheaper 2" extended swing arms like fast 50's, BBR 2" extended swing arm, Sano 2" extended swing arm, etc. Didn't want the drop tubes of those kinds. Wanted the full MX Bike look.

      I built my CRF50 the right way also. Expensive? Maybe, that thing will last through my kids & my grandchildren easily. I still rip it up every now & then.
