  • My technique for re-rolling vinyl window. Quote to have 9 large windows done was $2400, I paid about $300 in vinyl and a Saturday. Worth it to me! The new windows are so nice, we can actually see out of the sunroom now!

    I watched many many videos on how to create a vinyl window, and yours was by far the most detailed and easiest to follow. Thanks for posting this. 20-gauge vinyl seems a little thick and difficult to work with, and screen frames at Home Depot mostly have 12-gauge channels, so I'm going to try that size vinyl and report back to you. By the way, different gauges of vinyl are super cheap by the yard (in 54" width) at Hobby Lobby, Walmart, and Joanne Fabrics. Michaels may have it as well.

      20 gauge is definitely harder to work with! Thanks for the info on where to get vinyl cheap!

    As a professional at this.... first let me say 2400. to reroll vinyl windows is robbery . I don't know of any professional that would charge this. When your replacing 15 year old vinyl, don't reuse the old spline, it's as old as the vinyl. Vinyl thickness does vary, but all window manufacturers use 10 mil. That is the manufacturers recommendation. And last, the proper rolling tool will prevent any tearing of the vinyl "on the wrong side" ruining your work.

      Thanks Mr Roth for your advice! I got a written estimate for the $2400 price but like you said, I thought it was outrageous. Fairly reputable local company but who knows. Maybe they were trying to talk me into the next level job which was to replace the entire frames which was about $4k. Again thanks for your advice though!

    Awesome instruction. I have 24 windows and need to re-do vinyl on 3; my vinyl is like a light bronze color not clear. Need to find out where I can get some that will match the other 21 windows that don't need repair.....then I am going to try to do this myself because the 1 person near me who did a repair for me on 2 windows about 3 years ago is no longer able to do it due to medical issues....Thank you for making this video it has helped tremendously!

    I was wondering if say like you would use a hair drier on shrink wrap to take out the wrinkles & seal them from air gaps if maybe it could work on this to tighten any loose ends. I mean I've put plastic up over windows in the winter & used a hair drier to tighten the slack out & It worked like magic tightening the plastic skin nice n tight.

      Dave Overbey I haven't tried that on window vinyl but have used it on other plastic and vinyl. I think it would work but you just need to be extremely careful with how much heat. Maybe try it on some scraps first?

    Enjoyed the video. I'm going to try and redo my florida room windows but I'm having trouble finding that channel type beading. Do you have an online source for the beading?

      You can use the round stuff too but I just got it at Lowes. It might have been home Depot. I'm sure it is available somewhere online though.

    What is u shaped spline exactly called and brand. Need to order from Amazon, etc. 3/16 wide, 3/32 channel middle and 5/32 deep. Thanks.

      Sorry, I don't know the brand. There are several types and sizes of spline. Sounds like you already have the measurements, I'd just search Amazon for the same profile (U shape or round) and check for the same size

    I've been looking online for the actual roll of vinyl to re-do the windows in my sunroom. Where did you purchase the vinyl? Thank you.

      www.yourautotrim.com. They have 12, 16, 20 gauge (and bigger but I wouldn't go any thicker than 20). Here is a link to the 12 gauge: www.yourautotrim.com/12guagclearp.html
      you should be able to copy that into your browser and go straight to it.

    I'm curious why you didnt use a heat gun to soften the vinyl and stretch it a bit ...also might get the "waves" out and add clarity to the window

    • @hesty32
      @hesty32  7 лет назад

      Ive used heat for linoleum and hydro turf but didn't want to risk getting the vinyl too hot. Being so thin, you'd have to be very careful but I can see how that would make it conform into the channel easier.

    • @hesty32

      Depends on size and the vinyl you choose. You can probably measure it’s size then do a little googling to find out

    How many yards did you purchase for 9 windows?

    • @hestermannmotorwerks
      @hestermannmotorwerks 4 года назад

      it all depends on where you order vinyl from (comes in different widths usually 39 or 54 inches wide) and how big your windows are. I had to use two yards for each window because the vinyl I ordered wasn't wide enough to get two windows from.
