- This alloy beast is decked out with high-end… everything. It’s not the strongest climber, but it may be the strongest park bike. It jumps well, it looks good, and it floats over high-speed chop like a champ. We eventually forgot it wasn’t carbon.
commencal is killing it with their bike designs and pricing.
Carbon frames are overrated, good to see a company that is focused on making nice ally bikes and things that actually make a difference
I friggin love my meta AM V4.2. I ride it in New England and at Killington as well. Mine is built with a Lyrik RCT3 and a super deluxe RC3, Eagle, NOBL TR38 carbon wheels and Maxxis DD casing tires. Awesome awesome park bike. Agree with all the things said in the video
Soo, it shreds dh good? And what's with big jumps?
Built like a tank, you can shred it like a maniac, doesn't cost an arm and a leg and it will last. One of the best bikes for the money at the moment... and Cecile Ravanel is killing with iy in EWS.
Hopefully you guys will get to test the new Meta AM 29 with updated geometry and 29" wheels for the 2019 Bible. Thing looks sick.
It just highlites how over rated carbon is.
You do not need carbon. And this bike wont shatter.
ehhhh you should watch the Santa Cruz carbon vs aluminum test video...
musicIVI saw that video before, the carbon frames went further than the alloy ones. However, if you listen closely, the carbon frames crack at an earlier stage, then be able to withstand a bit more, then snap. Not being bias to alloy, just my observation and I haven't tried carbon yet since it's too expensive for me.
I noticed that too, but I don't think it means much. It can creak at an early stage but it still won't fail for a long time. Also, in the last test, they are literally slamming the bottom tube on a concrete corner. No shattering or denting (like Aluminum would). I'm not saying that aluminum is bad or anything. Just carbon seems to be superior as far as being able to take a beating goes (always depends on which manufacturer though...). That being said, the amount of carbon used on these carbon bikes these days makes it the same weight as the aluminum builds, but now they seem to be way stronger too.
If you ever had alloy handlebar break you would know alloy can snap in a blink of an eye as well. Also to get anywhere near the weight of a burly carbon frame, the aluminium frame would be basically a tin can that gets destroyed by a single well placed stone hit. Then you can just bin it as nobody will be able to replace broken tube with the same one and weld it properly back together. On the contrary I know a few companies that can repair any damaged carbon frame, these guys make boats and airplanes = they are pretty good at it.
You don't NEED the latest shocks and forks and tires, either, they just make riding better. Personally id rather get better parts on an alloy frame, but the idea that carbon isn't the superior material is just wrong.
As for "shattering", i don't think you've been hanging around bike parks enough if you haven't seen snapped alloy bikes.
Make a review about commencal clash!
Finally a bible of bikes test that isn’t just then saying that a 170mm enduro bike doesn’t climb well. Good stuff guys
I just got a meta coming off a carbon bronson and i forgot how much i loved the feel of alloy its one of my favorite enduro bikes i have ever ridden
Hey there, Im looking at a used Carbon Bronson or the Meta. What is your opinion on climbing performance? I tested out the bronson for a full day and absolutely loved it but Id love to hear your input and experience on both bikes.
thanks!
Why is the bike in the back of the conversation? It would be nice to see while the conversation continues. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 Like the candor.
I have a 2018 Meta AM 4.2 and it descends like a bat out of hell..
With that said, it's 37 lbs (seriously) and isn't the best climber
10/10 would recommend if you have lift access or are a sadist when it comes to pedalling uphill
they go on about the shock but commencal gives so many other shock options on the other models like the new zealand edition with a coil.
I hope they make a 2019 27.5 version
Bought the am v4 in 2015 still ripping. Love commencal.
Commencal are amazing. I've had 6 of them over the years
What we really need is a light dh tire. Grips like a dhf and weighs 700 grams.
mjs1231 Too true carbon frame over aluminium saves 300-500grams and costs $1000. How insane that that the same weight saving that costs nothing in comparison can be made with tyres and no tubes. And unsprung weight is way more crucial
mjs1231 haha yeah well they’d exist if that was possible
agreed.
Serge Williams The thing is that 300-500g comes at no compromise in strength or ride quality. Carbon cranks and rims are the same. If you go for lightweight tires you can save more weight per $ but lighter weight tires just are not as good as their heavier counter parts. It isn't a great place to shave weight if you plan on riding gnarly stuff.
Commencal is the best🔥
I'm just debating between the meta 27.7, meta 29 and the new clash.
Meta has a bottle cage if that matters. But the clash looks so awesome!! Yep. Hard choice
Chuck in some volume spacers in the back, the bike it’s perfect. Love mine. Second meta iv had.
If carbon and its weight savings are such a big deal? How come the EWS most dominant rider a female Cecile Ravinel who rides this bike is destroying the field of carbon bike riders now for years.
she would probably be faster if you made the same bike out of carbon. and its just super nice, if you can save weight and engineer stiffness where its needed then why not ?
Last season sam hill winning with only using carbon on the last 2 race, as the carbon mega is not yet available. And look at dh race as well, alloy keep on winning with amaury pierron.
you're full of shit.
James Brant hahah, who? A Maury has won 3 worlds cups this year on a alloy bike. Ravanel dominates women’s enduro on an allow bike and Sam Hill won the ews on an alloy bike and flat pedals to add to it
which is exactly why i said that Zac guy was full of shit. no one is faster because a frame is made of any material. period.
I'm digging the price point on this thing! But I am wanting a bike that climbs, would this be a good over all trail/enduro bike? 50/50 climb and downhill??
Btw, I'm considering Stumpjumper or Santa Cruz Hightower LT. Thoughts?
watching the slow mo, how tf to you make the RC2 damper that sensitive.
so, if they are saying it has outdated geometry in terms of seat tube angle, what is the current trend ? shallower or steeper than its 72 degrees ? i need answers, people :)
#Bikemagazine is There any way u will be making bikechack on meta 29er?
I love my 2016 Meta am and she loves me.
If i could change the shock from that to the dh one, would it fit??? Thanks
Aluminum doesn’t really flex bro. Most motocross bikes went to aluminum to stiffen the chassis. Carbon is just up selling the sheepeople it’s about time we get good suspension and components on an aluminum bike . Next I would like to see chromoly make a comeback as having a bit of flex in the right spot can be very beneficial. Like KTM has been proving time and time again.
Chromoly bikes are heavy as shit, I love a chromo bike but they only really make sence for hard tails.
I own a 2017 Husky TC 250 with a chromoly trellis frame and I love it. Now it's a 2 smoker so it's already lighter than it's 4 stroke compatriots. But, KTM and Husky are generally lighter than their aluminum framed opponents like Honda/Kawi/Yamaha/Suzuki in the 250/450 mx/sx bikes.
So true
How much of a problem is the weight of this bike?
Props for the middle guy trying in front of the camera, but he is super awkward. Good review
Have any of you looked at how many carbon repair shops have popped up?
Carbon is 600% more likely to have a catastrophic failure compared to aluminum. Not to say aluminum doesnt fail, it does but the failure rate is way way way less than carbon.
mjs1231 600% because you say it?😂
Maybe because you can actually repair a carbon bike, but you have to throw aluminum ones away? Also, 600% is a hilarious value, thanks for the laugh.
WOAH the intro was super loud and after it I just couldn't hear a thing
since when did aluminum frames become flexible??!
video was super quiet for some reason
Why would it being an alloy bike make it an underdog?
Right? That's like saying "I'm surprised this rig can even handle at all since it's got a 780mm bar". Geezuz, people are really suck up the crap the bike industry spits out.
+mrfreelancing1 yep to right thats why i cant stand bike rader
Are the orange fox forks not pro only anymore?
nope theyre available to the public now
Do the Meta TR!
i really want this bike but in morocco it's hard to get money
You want a steeper than 74deg for seat angle?
yeah,76 would be better, you would find it pedals very well even with super slack head angle.
@@RiderP411 New Meta AM and TR 29er have a 76.5 degree seat angle! Stoked to get on one!!
Are aluminum bikes loss leaders for brands? I'd say it's probably where they make a good profit. No?
Should I get the Transition Patrol carbon 2019 or the commencal meta 4.2 29er?
Bimon I vote Transition
Ride them if you can. The new transition bikes are a downgrade where I live.
The Meta 29 weighs ~35lb, which is definitely something to consider. If that doesn't bother you, it's whether you prefer longer/slacker 27.5, or more standard geometry 29er - both will be equally capable. If price is an issue, get the one with better components.
Bimon plus commencal has the new clash coming out also
John Smith hey
Thx. Yup the weight is to consider .. and the quality too. I think I will go for the patrol.
Wow, the bike industry really is winning when we are somehow "surprised" that an 'inferior' aluminum framed bike is equally as good as its far more expensive plastic brother...... they aren't fooling me however.
I am not surprised at all and i feel like a lot of media people that should really know what they talk about, because they form peoples oppinions somehow believe every little lit of marketing bs the manufacturers spit out.
you can put a x2 on it
you cannot beat this machine when pointed down, it wont let you down....it just don't climb that well but overall very good bike
with burlier tires it weigh a lot more...
4:58 haha
Titus LocoMoto
Frame looks cheap AF
