He got in a lot of trouble in life because his mom was just not there and couldn't really raise him. She could only raise him financially.

I have vietnamese in laws and they are exactly like Jeannie's dad. We will gift them something and they will give it right back... which kind of hurts because we put a lot thought into it. They always tell us that our love is the biggest gift for them. Thinking about it now I dont feel as bad anymore. I am happy that my love is all they need (especially for this xmas because I just lost my job)

She is part of the reason we as a family, though never lived in lavish, never experienced financial hardships like bankruptsy, debts or unemployment. This is considering the fact that my dad is the sole breadwinner with average paycheck with 3 kids. My mum prioritise feeding her kids before her own. You can give her her favourite food but she never finish eat all and will always offer it to us kids despite wanting it for herself. Same for my dad. I love both my parents a lot, we went through a lot as a family, yet we endured
As a person from a third world country, I realized that we used to idolize people like Jeannie's dad. Someone who is humble, ethical, and compassionate. Nowadays the songs I'm listening to on radio is all about gold chains, how much money they make, how much cash they carry, about people being unapologetic of living the unreasonable rich lifestyle. It is sad really.

Yes. Some miserable people tell Jeannie to stop acting like she's broke now that she's rich and it bothers me. She's honoring her father's principles and she likes being content. Plus there is nothing wrong with being humble and not wasteful. If more rich people were like her, we'd see a lot more equal resource distribution and less waste in the world. She has picked up many great qualities from her parents and always takes the time to share her wisdom and compassion with others.

I have to help my parents even if they don't ask, I'm always popping up at their house cooking for them and it's always like a mini party when I come over. They are getting older & I feel it's my job to relieve their stress, even if I stop by for a hour I always try to put a smile on their faces. I love my parents to death and it breaks my heart that one day I might not have them with me I would be so lost without them.
