The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak Review - The Final Verdict

- The Legend of Heroes: Trails series has been going on for a long time, and as well-regarded as the Sky and Crossbell arcs are, a sense of fatigue set in after Cold Steel. Trails into Reverie provided the epilogue that Cold Steel 4 lacked, but fans were beyond wanting to move past Class VII and Erebonia.
Enter The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak, boasting a new cast of characters, a fresh setting in Calvard, a different narrative approach and revamped combat. Players control Van Arkride, a Spriggan who assists Agnes Claudel in retrieving a mysterious orbment.
With more morally grey situations and solutions (which govern the new LGC Alignment system), real-time and command-based combat options, and highly improved visuals over previous titles, Trails through Daybreak is what fans of the series need. Some quibbles remain, of course, but it's still a compelling RPG experience. Игры
Van alone is a reason to play this game. If you are bored with Rean and his harem, this is the fix you need.
Can't wait to play this but I still have to finish Trails of Cold Steel 3, 4, and Reverie first. I'm going through the entire Cold Steel series for the first time. I just beat 1 and 2 and I am around 50 hours into part 3 so I have quite a while before I will get to play this one. On average it's taking me 2 weeks per game since I am 47 with two jobs and can't play as much as I want but I am enjoying this a lot.
Your gonna love em! The LoH series is the benchmark of modern jrpg's.
I'll skip all those games and just play this
add tokyo xanadu to your list its unrelated to the story so slip it in at the end
Just ditch that trash man not worth it watch summary on youtube and hop into reverie cild steel is garbage ignore that shit
Your gonna love it enjoy yourself.
I played a little bit of the demo. And I'm happy with the way it turned out. Can't wait to play the full game.
Is it just this entry and the Cold Steel ones that look like this? I googled which entries are people’s favorites and ended up looking up Azure and Sky and they look like ps1 games despite coming out recently. What’s with the inconsistent art styles?
Because there fucking old games that span over a decade
@@treebush they came our between 2004 and 2013. It definitely wasn’t because they were old. Games stopped looking like that back in like 1997 unless it was an art style choice.
@@JadesOfGrey Yes, it was an art style choice. Trails have NEVER been known to have good graphics. You play them for the characters, story & worldbuilding. Hell, even Daybreak 1/2 and the new No Kiseki don't have impressive graphics.
Sky is tough to get newer fans to try out because the combat and graphics are dated (albeit, I still love it).
Daybreak is the first entry with their new engine (w/ the exception of the ending to Reverie showing off their new engine).
@@HellzAssassn I can tell the graphics aren’t up to modern standards in Daybreak but at least it’s somewhat close. I prefer that art style. Bought Trails through Daybreak today and preordered the Limited Edition for Trails through Daybreak II
@@JadesOfGrey Awesome! Hope you enjoy it! Daybreak 1+2 are some of my favs in the series. I've already played and 100% completed in Japanese, but it didn't stop me from preordering the LE English copies.
I've got my LE preorder up for Kai No Kiseki from Falcom Japan, so I'm stoked for that too. 3 Falcom games in one year is a dream come true. (4 if you count the CS3/4 PS5 remaster).
Will daybreak 2 be better graphics and different is this a new game or old. Why is part 2 next year was this always a 1 and 2 part game series
No, Part 2 is in the same engine and uses the same graphics.
Yes there was always a part 2 and falcom almost made a part 3 but we got Kai instead.
This game came out in 2021 in Japan so its not really that old.
Part 2 is next year because this game has over 10k lines of dialogue and takes time to translate and localize.
Is there a graphical difference in the ps4 vs ps5 versions?
60fps higher res ps4 probably 1080p ps5 is at least 1440p
better shadows, reflections, resolution... why would you play the ps4 version if you have the choice
Probably better load times on PS5 version as well. Probably mostly observed between change in cutscense and area/dungeon maps
@@terencecaron2922because most of the times they're the same, and the ps4 will upgrade fo ps5 version
Waited long for this. Meanwhile in JP, they're wrapping up this arc. Already been spoiled a bit so avoiding forums like the plague
Who is Stella Bright?
She's a hidden NPC 😂
Is this worth buying for a newbie to the series?
i would recommend at least the trails of cold steel series but you can 100% just start from here its the beginning of a new story.
@@lighthaze5777 appreciate it
Yes. I heard some people say you may need Trails from zero to get the full picture through.
@@AliAlslaman well ideally you would play them all as they intertwine but they all do a good job at being self contained stories so you could pick any of them up and have a good time, with perhaps the exception of trails into reverie as that's the culmination of the series. (or is it ? we will have to see what daybreak does)
you can, but be aware that there's a LOT of side characters, factions and concepts present in previous games, so if you don't understand everything, don't blame the game.
I thought this game was released in 2021? It got a re-release?
it released in Japan, it always takes years for the English translation.
The Trails games can be very text heavy, so it takes a LONG time to translate the games into English
@@sorappoli5137 that has nothing to do with it. it's because they don't even start localization until after it releases, there are plenty of text heavy games that do the localization during development so it can have a world wide release. Most Japanese developers have realized the console market is stronger in the West and have adjusted to simultaneous releases to maximize sales in the West, Falcom is just idiots who still want to prioritize a Japanese audience that barely plays console games. The franchise is already a step behind in terms of tech, it doesnt help that the "new" games are 2-4 years old by the time we get them making them even more dated to potential buyers. Despite this self sabotage, the US/EU sales are on pace to pass the Japanese sales in the next few years.
I'm wondering if he's just reading off a review or of he actually played it. That would explain why he pronounces names wrong.
Pretty sure he is reading the Review he "wrote"
Proud of the Trails fandom for not deterring new players from this one.
did you say Stella Bright instead of Estelle Bright? You also pronounce Rixia wrong.
☝️🤓 um actually headass 😂😂
@@halo3boy1 even google doesn't know wtf you are saying, it has a translate button lmfao.
Relax
@@fionnmaccuill415 nah
Par for the course for this channel.
Before this game, Zero / Azure was the best for me. Now trails through daybreak take the crown
So, is the combat like the new FF7?
not remotely
Not at all. The turn-based is still more or less what we're used to with the AT delay system. But this was their first jab at adding a toggle action combat system in addition to turn-based. It tries to mix in the animations we'd see for crafts and arts into the real time action as best as it can. It definitely improves on it in the next game but for now, it feels very limited.
Play demo that go be short but it was 10 minutes long well looking like weird version of Digimon mixed with final fantasy too
Cannot wait for next Friday
Same
Spoilers
First time i agree a new game looks like a Xbox 360 game, remind me of Eternal Sonata
I'm looking forward to playing trials through Day break next Friday for my switch oled console.
I really want to get into this series, but I think I'll wait until those Sky Trilogy remasters release.
I am not a fan of turn based games, but I was so addicted to Infinite Wealth gameplay that I spent 80 hours in just few weeks. And since then, its hard to find any turn based game that has nearly perfect combat system like Infinite Wealth.
i just finished this game in english patch and there is similarity in this entry in particular to infinite wealth
Trails in general ESPECIALLY daybreak have some of the best turn based combat out there I haven’t played infinite wealth but I played like a dragon and ili say trails through daybreaks combat is even better id seriously recommend giving this a shot u won’t regret it
I’m in chapter 11 or 12 of like a dragon rn but I haven’t played it in like 5 months😢I’m definitely planning on going back and finishing as Ichiban is absolute gold
No. If you removed the world building then trails is nothing.
I’ve never heard of this series. What are the other games?
the first arc and recommended starting point is trails in the sky FC (first chapter), SC (second chapter), and 3rd which take place in the kingdom of liberl; the second arc is trails from zero and trails to azure which take place in the crossbell state, the third and longest the eribonian arc consists of trails of cold steel 1-4 and trails into reverie as a conclusion and set up to trails through daybreak. it's a lot i know but i hope this helps
Legend of heroes there's a bunch of them. Trails in the sky 1-3 trails from zero, azure, cold steel 1-4, reverie and this one I believe
First arc (Liberl): Trails in the Sky, Trails in the Sky Second Chapter (”SC”), Trails in the Sky the 3rd
Second arc (Crossbell): Trails from Zero, Trails to Azure
Third arc (Erebonia): Trails of Cold Steel 1-4
Then there’s also Trails into Reverie, which is kind of like an epilogue for the second and third arcs and also slight setup for future games, including this one, which is the first entry in the fourth arc (Calvard).
The Trails series is a sub series of the Legend of Heroes which is a sub series of Dragon Slayer, an arpg form 1984.
The first Legend of Heroes was released in 1989 as Dragon Slayer The Legend of Heroes, this sub series focuses on turn based combat and story telling compared to Dragon Slayer's arpg combat. LoH 3-5 a.k.a Gaharv Trilogy, set in a different universe form the first two games. The sixth entry in Japan is known as "The Legend of Heroes VI- Trails in the Sky, the first game in the Trails series and the rest is history, form there is an massive interconnected, overarching plot that spans 12 games and 4 story arcs all taking place in a big continent called Zemuria still ongoing to this date.
The first arc consist of 3 games known as the Sky Trilogy takes place in the Kingdom of Liberl. (Sky FC, SC, 3rd)
2nd arc is a set of Duology (Zero and Azure) takes place in Crossbell an autonomous state sandwiched between two superpower nations Erebonian Empire to the west and the Republic of Calvard the the east.
The 3rd arc consist of 4 games (Cold Steel 1-4) takes place in the Erebonian Empire one of Zemuria's superpowers.
Trails to Reverie is the 10th game chronologically and acts as an epilogue to both Crossbell and Erebonia's arc.
The 4th (current) arc as of now has 3 games Kuro (Daybreak) takes place in the Republic of Calvard. The 3rd game know as Farewell O Zemuria will be releasing in September in Japan.
@@ztune3945 that seems like a lot to catch up on.
New engine same problems, game is too slow, movements are in slow motion. The speed up function in these games feel closer to correct speed than the default.
Need to burn through cs4 and reverie fast
Take your time, there's no need to rush
Bro you ain’t gonna burn through those fast lol they’re both about 60 hour at least
I am dragging my feet through CS4😅. I am just burned from Rean and class 7. So i said fuck it and just played the new game. Best decision i did.
@@AliAlslaman new game is amazing
They gave it an 8.
From non-trails fans it is fair. For me it is 9/10 and the best so far.
SO hyped
If you are going to mispronounce it, go hog wild. It's clearly German-gander!! 🤣🤣
Man if only the trails games werent all connected, I'd really like to play.
this one is a fine place to start if you aren't bothered about spoilers
Yes it’s a big commitment and time sink but trust me it’s well worth
You don't have to rush through the series, I only play 2 a year.... and it's plenty fun.
You can start with this one just fine.
I'd agree with the rest since this is a brand new arc. Fresh new group of protags. Once the hook naturally pulls you into the series, you will likely want to delve backwards out of curiosity yourself. That's the thing about Falcom's world building prowess. Tho you will have seen a few spoilers for them by then, naturally.
One thing that I don't like about trails series is 90% talking and 10% gameplay I hope this isn't one of those.
Go play Ys then.
I’m sorry to say but this series is not for you.
Reminder that gamingbolt is a heavily bias channel that frequently has unmarked spoilers in it's videos. They are also run by several people who have let racist/transphobic comments slip into videos....so yeah. If you must watch this trash, be sure to use one of the many browser add-ons which blocks the channel from getting clicks/views/ad-revenue & positive engagement.
Something tells me you are not happy unless you are offended by something
Thanks for recommendation. Now I'm gonna watch this channel, because I'm sure they aren't some woke entitled trash. You couldn't make better ad for them. No one outside USA cares about your 'culture' of being offended by literally everything.
Bruh I just came for the review of the game lol
