Yasunori Mitsuda was a very good employee. Very talented, but until this- he viewed himself as ✌️only a production assistant✌️ but they were on some admittedly legendary titles. Ultimately one day he flat out gave an ultimatum that he needed to be the lead composer on one of these titles or he’d leave the company and search for greater advantages elsewhere. An avid student in music theory, Mitsuda was determined to make his mark in video game history one way or another. And luck would have it, the powers that be at square conceded. We are listening to fan tributes to the music that was in someone’s soul and was screaming to come out. Demanding respect from his colleagues. And pouring his heart into every entry of the soundtrack. And its intention is to teleport you to a land of make believe- lightyears from the mortal one that everyone shares. Imagine if uematsu was the lead. Imagine some alternate timeline where chrono trigger was composed by nobuo uematsu. The English dub was written by someone who did not speak or read Japanese. He just had visuals and music to go off of. And still to this day says it’s the greatest thing he ever wrote.
