    Complete list of questions to ask about any given machine to determine ideal strategy.
    1) Can you backhand the bear kick ramp from a trap? Yes=vote for mansion strategy. If not, then thing flips is usually easy from the trap, chair from trap is more dangerous, and the shot through the bumpers works from the trap.
    2) can you dead bounce the chair to the right flipper? If yes, AND you can backhand the bearkick from a trap, it's a good idea to do both.
    3) Can you loop the bear kick ramp? If so, consider going for super bear kicks and 15M THING multiball. But it's probably not going to work. Barely failed ramp shots are incredibly likely to go right down the middle.
    4) can you dead bounce swamp kickout? if YES, this makes mansion strategy easier because you can use that to setup a safe backhand on the chair.
    5) can you shoot vault from a trap on the left flipper? if no, multiball is a hard strategy, and you should be going for bear kick ramp instead, which will be a very easy shot.
    6) can you flail balls into the vault from the chair kickout? This shot is actually somewhat doable when shooting from a trap is not. Learning this shot will serve you well in tunnel hunt and multiball.
    7) can you shoot the chair reliably after a bear kick ramp? if yes, that's usually what you should do to start the next mansion room. If not, try to learn the shot through the bumpers. so you can go for a three way combo. If you can't manage that shot (and it can also be very iffy), then thing ramp is the safe play. Thing ramp is usually a very easy shot after a bear kick. Either way, you then go for the side ramp, and then either shoot the swamp if you got it dialed in, or try to control it another way.
    8) can you bank the ball into the swamp off the G-R targets from the mini flip? If yes, you should do those early flips. On a number of TAFs on location, that shot is wired. You will know if it's wired because thing flips will do it with a 95% or better success rate. The rebound gives a better angle on the shot. If not, you will have a hard time getting better then 40% success on that shot, no matter how good you are.
    9) can you safely leave the mini flipper down? Many TAFs on location have a modified divider to make it safe to NOT flip. Those that don't risk an outlane drain. If the ball even ONCE takes a hop off that divider and down the outlane, never try it again on that machine EVER. It WILL fail you when you need it most, and you will hate yourself for it. With practice you can deliberately divert the ball into the light thing flips lane. you do this by holding it up, and dropping it just after the ball makes contact. If you can do this, or it just maturally coes off the wall and goes into that lane, you are in good shape. If not you gotta try holding the flipper up, and hope that feed is more controllable.
    10) Which flipper is the safest one to shoot the closed vault from? A backhand will usually rebound towards the upper flipper due to counterclockwise spin, letting you go for side ramp, train wreck, or a second greed hit. Forehanding it from the lower left flipper is usually dangerous, though the rebounds ARE consistent from a trap. Also, if you can't get the ball back off of it after tagging it with an upper flipper, it's usually a better play to shoot the side ramp. See what greed will get you? A DRAIN.
    11) Do train wrecks drop into the swamp if shot cleanly from the upper flipper? If so, it's a pretty safe shot, and you can and should do chair to bear kick to thing to trainwreck to dead bounce to left flipper trap. But more likely, it will rebound off the swamp targets and make a beeline towards the left outlane. Yes, this is intentional. Yes, that extra ball is pretty tempting, but DON'T DO IT unless you know you will get the ball back! It's called the train wreck for a reason. If the graveyard value is high, it's worth getting it held, so you don't have to shoot the ball into the bumpers to get it up high again, but it's not worth draining over.
    12) can you reliably get the ball back if you let it go past the upper flipper after a thing ramp? If so, consider doing this if you drain too often going for the swamp from the mini flipper. If not, you gotta go for that side ramp anyway.
    Never intentionally shoot for the standups. Unless it's the aforementioned bank into the swamp.
    Btw, extra ball follows raise the dead. If extra balls are on, consider ignoring the bumpers and quickly relighting the chair to grab it first. If they are off, raise the dead is very tempting, as it can outscore it and mamushka outside of multiball.
    If the vault is hard to shoot, it's very worthwhile to nail cousin it during multiball, because it's timer stops everytime you do it, as well as any time any ball is in a tunnel. this can cause ludicrous amount of bonus. If it's easy, your time is better spent getting jackpots.

      FX is out and has this game. Here are the answers to the strategy questions.
      1) Yes, you can backhand the bearkick from a trap. You can dial it in, ad the flipper has plenty of power to make the shot.
      2) Yes, you can dead bounce the chair and trap up on the right, unless the power messes with it.
      3) No, you can't loop it. you may make the shot once in a while but you cannot do it reliably at all.
      4) oddly enough, no, you can't. it goes out of control, and you don't get your trap. A Live catch, on the other hand, works well. holding the flipper up gets the ball into the inlane, and is a setup for an orbit through the bumpers. live catches are stupidly easy to do well enough in FX.
      5) Yes, you can make that shot to the vault, though it's easier on the fly. you need to flip a bit early for the bear kick ramp.
      6) Yes, you can flail it in, but it's not something to rely on. I smiled when i saw that shot work.
      7) You can bear chair, but it's not nearly as easy as it was on TPA, and you are in trouble if you brick the shot. high risk, high reward.
      8) no. good luck doing anything with that mini flipper. even thing can't hit the broadside of a barn with it. fortunately...
      9) yes, leaving the mini flipper down is safe. I've yet to drain off of it. expect it to go right into light thing flips. (in pro mode it usually goes to 2x bear kick instead!)
      10) the lower right flipper is probably safest, with the upper right in second place. rebounds from the lower left can be brutal.
      11) it can happen with a really solid hit, but don't rely on it. use quick multiball to take a potshot or two at it to hold your graveyard value.
      12) it's a bit of a fight, but i haven't had a drain off of letting it past with the power off. Still probably better to shoot the side ramp and let it past the mini flipper.

    My dad used to take me to this bar. It was called "The Dog House". This was back in about 1996-97 when kids in bars wasn't frowned upon lol. My dad and the other bar patrons would give me stacks of quarters. In the corner they had this machine. This game was my first experience with pinball at about age 7 or 8. I don't remember my highest score, but I always loved when "thing" would come out and steal my ball lol. Would love to get one of these machines some day or at least play one again.

  • @zaphod77
    @zaphod77 6 лет назад +4

    As Bowen showed, it can be unwise to carry seance into a tour. seance is worth 30 million is completed, just like tunnel hunt, but it's VERY risky. If the power catches the ball, you can get totally hosed. You can even drain off o the kickout.
    ALso the difficulty of shooting the vault affects how good the multiball strategy is. on some games the vault shot is nearly impossible from a trap on the left. you have to flail it in off the chair kickout, or shoot it on the fly from an inlane feed. those machines will typically have an easily shot bear kick ramp from the left flipper, and make it reasonable to backhand the bear kick ramp from a trap. trying to actually LOOP the bear kick ramp is VERY dangerous, and anything less than a perfect shot is very likely to drain, and it is all your fault.
    But on some machines it's hard to shoot the bear kick ramp from even the left flipper! But in this case, the vault is a much easier shot. this makes multiball and quick multiball and thing multiball MUCH more lucrative. Because vault was doable from a trap on the PAPA machine, and the chair is unusually hard to hit, multiball turns into a great strategy.
    Back in the day when people actually knew how to tune a pinball game, on location, multiball was a very risky strategy, because of the sheer difficulty of getting a ball into the vault. you would get a single jackpot, and would be lucky to get ONE relight.
    Ideal tuning for a TAF game.
    1) bear kick ramp is very easy shot from left flipper. it is difficult from right, but doable from rap with practice. After shooting the bear kick ramp, thing ramp is an easy shot. you can the got from thing to side ramp, then shoot the swamp, getting a good angle by banking off the G-R standups. you then dead bounce and trap on left flipper to shoot the chair.
    2) vault requires a perfect shot from a trap. anything less will not get past the rubber. makes multiball really hard to score well on.
    3) looping the bear kick ramp is not possible.
    4) thing flips is very accurate, and makes 99% of all shots. i have played TAFs where thing was that accurate, and it did it by banking off the G-R standups.
    5) letting the ball past the mini flip risks the ball bouncing off the inlane divider and right into the outlane.

    The interesting way to get Dirty Pool without having to get airball into the vault with bookcase closed is to somehow abuse the ball search. After 2, or 3 searches, the game will open the bookcase, since it thinks that the ball is stuck there. If you time the shot perfectly, the ball will go into the vault, which in term will make it accessible without completing "GREED". Easiest way to get ball search is to constantly post transfer from one side to another at the rate, at which status report won't show up.

    • @zaphod77
      @zaphod77 3 года назад

      I believe that would be unsportsmanlike conduct in a tournament. If you just happened to be flailing around so badly you caused a ball search, you can take advantage, but deliberately inducing one to gain an advantage isn't fair. But feel free to do this in arcade play if you can.

    Not a bad score. The Addams machine at Asbury Park's Silverball Arcade has a really terrible deal with the bear kick ramp.. when that ball hits the black rubber piece on it's way to the right flipper.. it'll bounce around and you literally have .. probably 10-15% chance of it bouncing out into the side out lane instead of down to the flipper where it should go. This really screws up the gameplay because of how important that bear kick ramp is. The only safe way to hit it is if the ball will divert to the left flipper. Bear kick ramp is HUGE in this game, as it SHOULD be a safe and easy way to get extra balls, mansion rooms, and a very nice bonus when you hit 99, I believe. Really wish they'd fix that. My all-time favorite machine.

    And you mention some but not all Addams Families you can shoot the bear kick ramp from the right flipper. What differs between the machines? I just assumed the schematics were what they were and the machines built to those exact specs. What typically varies from machine to machine, nonspecific and specific to Addams Family? Thanks!

    Is the Tour Vs Multiball strategy decision different for games without PAPA's settings? An "All-In" Multiball strategy doesn't produce the extra balls that factory settings would, and even if EBs are disabled, there are no yellow posts on the Chair on most machines, unless the operator is a proper jerkwhistle.

    • @zaphod77
      @zaphod77 5 лет назад +2

      The chair from right flipper is still very dangerous, but the tour strategy is more doable and more fun on decent but not papatized games.
      Also on many games on location, jackpot relights are very difficult because the vault is incredibly hard from a trap.
      The rule is, if you can hit the vault reliably, go for multiball. if you can't, you gotta try for the tour.

    PAPA needs to work on it's production quality. this video's voice audio was not great. I can't watch a 22 minute video with that audio . I'm too old lol.

    You are missing the Uncle Fester figure on the chair.

      That is a mod. All the production machines never had Fester figures.

    3:34 Bowen backhanding the Vault. Certainly do-able.
    Also, Addams Family hype on Pinball Arcade!

    I will never forget the time I got 1.6 billion on my home machine. My second best after that is 700 or so million, less than half the top.

    Where I come from, holding balls during a multiball is disrespectful. It cheapens your high score, and the wizards wouldn't honor the points even if your initials were on the board!

    Now, call me a pinball heretic but I really don't understand the hype about this table. IMHO, it doesn't hold a candle to Indiana Jones, Star Trek and Twilight Zone.

    11:10 that's cheating lol

    • @lefmankan
      @lefmankan 5 лет назад

      That is absolutely not cheating. Nudging the machine is a very important part in playing pinball.

    • @snakeywakey3893

      English by itself isn't cheating. Death saves and Bang Backs are illegal in tournaments.

    If you don’t flip to the snaps, you’re playing it wrong.
