Case study in how superior athleticism simply outperforms lesser athleticism over the course of a game. Strategy, skill and teamwork can keep things competitive, but basketball is a sport of athletes. Latvia came out gangbusters and had a great game plan at the beginning of the game. However, superior athleticism simply wore down the Latvian side, which couldn't keep making the three pointers and when they eventually got tired and started making mistakes they were overtaken in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Latvia simply had no defensive answer for SGA, Barrett and Olynyk and despite an absolute lion's heart, Latvia couldn't keep up with the length, strength, and quickness of the Canadian side.
Not necessarily, Latvia were without a number of players injured including their leader/ captain and have beaten Athletic teams before, athleticism alone doesn't win games, it's a combination of factors combined.
@@iggyblitz8739 Canada is also missing several key players. Also the advantage for Canada is that they have several offensively dominant players that can take over when the set breakdown.

Man, i don't think that Canada is missing 4 out of starting 5 players in their roster. I think it's 2 or 3. Besides the impact of missing players is lesser for CAN as of average overall level doesn't drop so significantly. It would be interesting to see Latvia with KP, Dairis Bertans (injury 1/4 vs france), Strelnieks (injury, starting PG) and Lomazs (injury, 2nd PG) in full strength vs Canada (and other teams). But we'll see through until the Olympics!
Nevertheless, respect for the best Canada team i've seen thus far. Wish Steve Nash could complete it!

If the sport is popular and has many great players in the country it can beat a country with a huge population. in hockey finland can go head to head and do really well against such huge countries as the usa and russia even though its population is so much smaller

Canada messed up in the first quarter but clawed back their way up past Latvia and pushed passed them and then took off. A great game of basketball. Canada played too good. Latvia has got a good side. But Canada came on top.

It’s just a learning curve for France as their veterans age and their new young talent prepare for the NBA. A healthy, well coached French team with full roster is the best European country in the world at basketball.

For us Latvia.... we really do not have any option inside, Smits is good but KP is not playing and Pasecniks is injured too and really... he would not be a great help. And Davis Bertans can be good when he hits 3s but when he cannot, he can harm a lot too... Now Dairis Bertans is out. If we cannot shoot, we will fall. But you have to play and hope for the best.

Indonesia basketball team must reach at least FIBA Asia 8th position if they want play as World Cup host. Of course it's not easy when they must play against China and Australia in FIBA Asia. FIBA allow QATAR to join FIBA World Cup as host WITHOUT Fiba Asia Top 8 Mission. The Qatar basketball team and their Fiba ranking Even WORSE than Indonesia. Qatar also DON'T have NBA PLAYER Like Indonesia. This Is Truly A Discrimination To Indonesia.
