Nice. A friend of mine had that VHS when I was a kid. I remember the oldest taped version we had I think was from 1989. Wish I still had it for the continuity portions. I barely remember them. They made a big deal about the film being restored and the 50th anniversary. Great memories!
My first VHS Copy of OZ was the 1989 50th Anniversary; purchased at Safeway. I still have the VHS box with inside booklet. The tape was worn out long ago!! I have too many DVD editions to count; I know I have the 70th and 75th DVD Editions, and one Blu-Ray Edition as well. Super informative and fun!!
My only VHS copy of "The Wizard Of Oz" that I had was the 2000 Warner Brothers Family Entertainment print, and my only DVD copy (which I had recently bought and gave to myself for my birthday this year) I believe is the 70th Anniversary Edition DVD.
My first vhs of the wizard of oz was the 1988 red cover version which was also my father's first version too! He gave me that same tape after he purchased the 1992 version.
You are missing the Ultimate Oz box set which came out in 1993. It had a VHS copy of the restored film and another VHS of the Angela Lansbury documentary. It also had a printed copy of the shooting script and a number of still photos included.
I wouldn't by the romance if it was an established character from a previous _Oz_ book that wasn't romantically interested in anyone. If it's a new character though, fair game. Do what you want.
It was much earlier than the VHS releases, in the late 1960s. MGM released a condensed 8-minute "Super 8" 8mm film. Later another longer (but still condensed) 18-minute version was released. Sure, it wasn't the complete film, but this was the first time anyone from the public could own a physical copy of some part of _The Wizard of Oz_
@@LAQuadling Thanks! My ulterior motive is to see the earliest release that includes the alleged "hanging munchkin" scene, which some say is a crane that has since been edited out in re-releases.
@@babbisp1 I believe these 8mm releases have been uploaded to RUclips (it's been a hot minute since I viewed them). So, I can't remember if that scene is present. I do own the original release, but I don't have a 8mm film projector. At one point I considered finding a 16mm print of _The Wizard of Oz_ to debunk THAT SCENE. It's definitely possible (but pricey) to find a film print from before the 1980s. Maybe I should actually do that one day...
Yes, I have one of the vintage ceramic lamps that came originally unpainted. Mine is painted like the MGM movie characters (Dorothy has Ruby Slippers and the Scarecrow is in green). They also added glitter to some of the elements, which I haven't seen before.
Thanks? Lol. My channel name is a reference to the Quadling Country in the Land of Oz. In the original books, the Land of Oz is divided into four separate countries: Gilikin (North), Munchkin (East), Quadling (South) and Winkie (West). To distinguish the original fan conventions of the early Oz Club, members identified themselves according to where they lived. Since I live in the south, I am a Quadling... hence the name.
💜 awesome collection
The one I grew up with was the 1999 vhs release. I still have it but it got worn out in some scenes, so now I have the blur ray version
My first was the 1992 VHS. I watched it so many times and would hold it so much that the box began to fray. Great video!

I remember my cousins had the 1989 VHS. It was the first VHS edition I think I saw in person.

My first wizard of Oz movie was on laser disc 😊
I plan on including some romance in my oz spin-off series

I have a special addition vhs of this film , I can't find it anywhere else , could you help if its worth anything?
Define "special". Is the cover art different from the other VHS releases? Or is it one of the VHS's that was released in a box set?
What's the absolute earliest physical release of the movie?

nice collection, but...what are you? 🤔🧐
