Thanks for the comments, support, and suggestions! This video is the winner of the #Armachinima contest! Music: / brass Thanks to the community for the top tier mods.
Probably one of the best I've seen in the Armachinima contest! Love the discreet timeline of the ArmA game from 3 to Operation Arrowhead to Red Harvest! Good luck with the contest
Maybe sometime in the future they will work with the ragdoll physics so they look/behave more realistic. I play rainbow six siege a lot, and they have some of the best animations I've seen, though they're more stylized.. Rising Storm 2 has some interesting ragdoll physics they've been working on that's going for the realism side.
Appreciate it, most of the time I don't touch sound effects because I have no idea what I'm doing. This time I tried hard to learn some basics and I think it paid off!
Yeah, I've got a large sound archive from my source modding days! I mixed some of them with RHS/JSRS + some 3rd person reverb I recorded in virtual arsenal to mix it up a bit. A great base to work off of!
You won my vote (I saw them all - well almost :) , you make good use of what make Arma great : mods - then I must admit you have chosen (and actually mentioned) the best of them !
This is my favorite one, great job! I voted for you and shared with friends. If this was as long as East Wind, there wouldn't even be a competition. The lack of story I'm afraid may put East Wind up on top though. Best of luck, I'm sure you're getting a top 3 prize either way! Forgot to mention that the scene at 2:53 looks indistinguishable from real life. It's excellent.
Ideally I would like to see both. Honestly the missions would be better. My biggest struggle with arma machinima making is make characters do what I want
oh, I used Tedho's unitcapture function. I record basic movement / actions on myself, then apply the pathing to AI via radio trigger or timed trigger depending on how complex the scene is. Instead of needing multiple people to run around as extras, or dealing with default AI pathing, you can make the AI do whatever you did instead. forums.bistudio.com/topic/175154-functions-unitcaptureunitplay-for-infantry-units-in-arma-3/ My friend did the more complex things that you can't record with it, like firing from a helicopter for example. It's essentially the same as using the default unitcapture for helicopters or planes, but you apply the move data, firing data, and animation data.
I have used that in the past and had some trouble with it. Sometimes the animations wouldn't play, wrong animations, inaccurate firing, etc. I will give it a shot, I may have been using an outdated version of the script
Arma 2 had death animations so I don't see why they can't just implement the animations either into the base game or as a developer mod such as the ADR - 97
i also entered the contest but there is no way i will ever win... tshirt would be nice XD. no but this video is some quality work and i would love to see you're work at first place... you deserve it. hats off mate.
Favorite part of this video, was when the eyelids of that last operator blinked / flinched when he was shooting that dude again. Amazing attention to detail!!
This is technically impressive and very well done, but I have to say I feel like it never gets going. It felt like it was building up to tell a story, but never did. I'd like to see you use your technical skills to make something with a narrative. I hope this doesn't come across as too negative. I know a lot of people are saying some very nice things, but I just kind of felt like this was a trailer for itself.
Nah, a few people have mentioned that before, and I agree. Part of why I didn't attempt any story was time. Each scene did have some sort of background at one point. For example the urban scene was really a PMC convoy, with the lead SUV pinned against a building by a cargo truck. After the initial ambush the VIP would be escorted through some alleyways with opfor units running across the roofs trying to intercept. (I made some pretty cool sets for that part!), and it would eventually end up with the helo section. That itself could be a video, probably pushing 5 minutes. I just didn't have the voice talent for it or time to recruit outside people. It'd be really weird with no communication of sorts. The other part is that I'm using ArmA as a platform to improve my technical skills rather then prioritizing making a narrative driven machinima at the moment. I'd rather focus on a trailer theme for now as I explore and mess around with both the editing and eden editor. That gives me the most flexibility to make something watchable for now. Not to imply trailers can't have a narrative or anything though. Before the contest popped up, I was experimenting with a rainbow six themed video/trailer with an actual story!
Ah, I see. Well I have to say you did a good job in and of itself. I hope to see the convoy video sometime. I do hope you get a chance to tell a story in the future. Voice talent is a major stumbling block - it's so hard to get together a group of people who have the skill to sound convincing. Good luck with the contest. The Rainbow Six idea sounds pretty interesting too!
Thanks, the Rainbow Six thing will probably see the light of day but I'm not sure when. I was in the middle of learning how to do dynamic snow, but I also have a lot of stuff recorded too. I'm working on a quick "demo" of how I make some of the missions / scenes since people were asking. So that will probably come after.
I dunno, I feel like this is a perfect example of how a Armachinima should be. It's not tear jerking or attempting to be dramatic, it's showing different scenarios that can occur within the game and its done quite well. I don't agree with the idea that everything has to be deep.
This is best arma3 video I have ever seen - heck even better than their official materials =D If this was trailer (and mods were included in main game) I would be sold and would go and buy Arma3 (I own arma3, but I'm talking about impressions taken from the material) =D amazing
I like the little details like in the desert scenario with PMC how its already taking place after some firefight with carn aparently was speeding up and driver shot and car rammed up on the boxes.
this was by far the coolest video in this contest. you have my vote
Mine aswell :)
thanks guys :D
When Bohemia inevitably needs a trailer for Arma 4, they should outsource to you, you're that good.
thanks!
And russians actually not bad guys and speaking real russian language? Oh man, I have no words, FINALLY ! And also it's beautiful.
I tried with the language, mostly just dug through the rhs voice filenames too see what they were generally saying lol
It's all perspective. @Sarge Thebandit01
Russians are occupants, U mean Pidaruskies?
@Sarge Really overdone? They literary anexed part of another country. liek it is some 20th century or something
this didnt age well
after all these years, I still find myself returning to this video, it's really that good.
Probably one of the best I've seen in the Armachinima contest! Love the discreet timeline of the ArmA game from 3 to Operation Arrowhead to Red Harvest!
Good luck with the contest
Back over 7 years later as I was reminded of this masterpiece!
Someone should really make a mod that incorporates these death animations into actual gameplay, maybe augmented by ragdoll at some times
That'd make gameplay all the more aesthetically pleasing, even if it's simple.
It's been done already, but only certain communities have it.
Can we do this?
You'll have to get your hands on the PBO in circulation.
The sound work and effects are so good man, great job!
Appreciate it, most of the time I don't touch sound effects because I have no idea what I'm doing. This time I tried hard to learn some basics and I think it paid off!
i hear a ton of insurgency sounds :)

I really like how all of the mods were listed in the beginning of the video. I appreciate the work the author has done good job!
This is great. It would be cool to see some behind the scenes for this, it is really well done
Would you want to see a quick layer by layer breakdown of the editing or how I did the missions?
Ideally I would like to see both. Honestly the missions would be better. My biggest struggle with arma machinima making is make characters do what I want

give me a week or so and I'll make a short behind-the-scenes example cinematic shot from start to finish. wouldn't take that long to do.
Congratulations for winning this contest! Was by far the best Armachinima I've seen!
Those effects are believable and still extremely cool- plus perfect editing. My vote is for you guys!
Out of the dozen or so of these that I'v seen, this is my favorite. Very well done; I'll make sure to vote for it.
Graphics, sounds, animations all so amazing! Really good work! I wish the actual game was like this though.
You’ve got some major talent my guy, this video and the OPTRE video are both amazingly shot and animated
thanks!
This is actually amazing, hands down best Arma machinima I have ever seen!
Congratulation for winning the contest, it was definitely one of the best video so far ;)
Those death animations need to be implemented into the actual game ASAP.
I think they are all cutseen animation's from arma 2's story mode
then it shouldn't be that hard for bohemia
Arma 2 had death animations so I don't see why they can't just implement the animations either into the base game or as a developer mod such as the ADR - 97
R Brown there is a realistic rag dolling mod, which makes it look alot more realistic
Congrats on 1st place Kingles! Definitely earned the first place out of all the nominees, enjoy your new graphics card!
I certainly will, I so hyped for Rising Storm 2 and being able to run it! :D
Proud to have been an early voter for this, congrats on the win guys!

Holy shit. The Music. The Bass. The Brass. This is fucking amazing.

Valid points, but you need to develop your narrative skills, too. It's the most important part.

See that machinima and tell me how an Arma battle should be ruclips.net/video/xbstvPkX2LU/видео.html
I like the little details like in the desert scenario with PMC how its already taking place after some firefight with carn aparently was speeding up and driver shot and car rammed up on the boxes.
