This week's SOS is dedicated to the memory Chester Bennington, lead singer of Linkin Park who tragically ended his life on July 20th, 2017. Chester had a huge heart for his fans and for music, and today I'm taking a look at some of his most painful and haunting lyrics that will probably bring a tear to the eye, now that he's gone.

+IanTitleist Because its a question - "Who cares if one more light goes out? Well, I do." People this low convince themselves everyone would be better off without them around and its never, ever true - clinical depression distorts everything. It's saying "I care if you go." Hope this helps.

When they first posted "Heavy" on Facebook, my immediate first thought was to comment something or try to get in contact with the band. Usually when someone is suicidal, they reach a point where they've made peace with their decision and may seem happy on the surface. I think Chester was at that point when this song came out, and it breaks my heart to know that he had been hurting for so long. Even though I'm just lil old me, I wish I said something, anything, to make him check the feedback and try to reconsider. Now I'll never get the chance.

with one more light, the most important part of the song was not said. In the song it goes "Who cares if someone's light goes out... well I do" Chester isn't singing it in a way that no one will care, he's saying that he cares about all of his fans, friends, and family. I agree that this is a hauntingly painful song, but I feel like that one lyric changes everything and it should be noted.

Sarah Barr I'm nearing that point, sadly. I have told a close friend of mine, that the thought of it never went away. I've had moments where I felt vulnerable, that I could be easily swayed by my inner voices. I wanted to give in. Instead, I've kept telling myself to hold on and that things will get better. For now, that's all I can do to save myself.

I was at the store yesterday and In the end started playing. Me and my mom are fans of linkin parks' music and when we heard the news we were sad. And as soon as everyone in the store heard "it starts with one thing" everyone in the store went silent I heard a gentle "oh no". "In Between" the "Blackout" and the "Wake" lies a "Victimized" soul who felt "Powerless", "Invisible" and "In Pieces". It's "Easier To Run" from the "War" within than to have "No Roads Left" to travel and only "Wastelands", "Empty Spaces" and "Sharp Edges" in your way. When you think "Nobody's Listening" or "Nobody Can Save Me" and you have "Given Up" all hope and just want to "Runaway", remember that "Roads Untraveled" are "The Catalyst" for "Wisdom, Justice and Love". Remember "What I've Done" and "Leave Out All The Rest" because when I find "A Place For My Head", I know I am "Somewhere I Belong", so "Mark The Graves" "In My Remains" as I get "Lost In The Echo" of this "Iridescent" "New Divide". I will be "One Step Closer" to being "With You". "Don't Stay" in the past because it will leave you feeling "Faint" and "Numb". In this "Final Masquerade", here my "Battle Symphony" as I say "Good Goodbye" and that this was not "All For Nothing". Don't be "Waiting For The End" to come, because "In The End", even though "I'll Be Gone", keep your "Hands Held High" during the "Shadow Of The Day", because "One More Light" will be "Burning In The Skies" and will never be "Forgotten".
My message in memory of Chester

    What about 'In the End':
    'I tried so hard
    And got so far
    But in the end
    It doesn't even matter
    I had to fall
    to lose it all'
He tried so hard to fight his inner demons such as his alcohol and drug addiction but also his depression that he's lived with all his life. But even though he tried his hardest to fight these feelings it didn't matter because they caught up to him in the end, causing him to 'lose it all'.

Daniel Mullins In The End was the first song I was introduced to back in 2010 when I was looking up AMV's (Anime Music Videos.) And it was what got me into rock music. And as a kid at that time, and even now, I look back to my elementary years 3rd-6th grade I thought I couldn't go on. So I thought to myself i'll dedicate this song to my cousin, because he was the one that kept me going. Thanks to Linkin Park I am the person I am today. I thank everyone in Linkin Park for it.

I really don't understand the people that are calling Chester selfish and a coward. Chester was battling with depression and drugs and alcohol for most of his life. And like you said when describing the lyrics of 'Crawling' you can see how messed up he was 17 years ago, so it's not like he got depression recently, he fought against depression for most of his life. Chester also said that last year he was in a really fucked up place mentally, worse than what he has ever been and it's clearly that Cornell's death fucked him up even more. So before someone calls him selfish and/or a coward think about this... Chester held on for more than 17 years for his family, band members, friends and fans and never committed suicide even tho his mind was very messed up. So think about this... if he held on through all these years with that fucked up mind, now imagine how worse his mind got in the last couple of days that he decided that he couldn't handle it anymore. Think about that.

3DDuDeRuLeZ w the people that say these thing are ignorant and uneducated !!! They have no clue on depression and the toll it takes on a person ... it's not something as easy as changing you underwear ... depression is a chemical in balance in a person brain .. trauma caused ... there is no fix it is with a person every moment of everyday .. some days are better then others but the worthless and helplessness is forever lingering !!! It's sad to think these people think we CHOOSE to wake up and fall asleep like this !!! And I can speak on this because I am someone who deals with it everyday ...

I wrote this after the first time I heard "One More Light" recently. I just now saw your video and thought it was on point and well said.
It is so sad that a person with so much influence and so many people that did care about him could be so sad and depressed.
There is a saying that has rung so true in my life. "suicide doesnt stop the pain, it gives it to someone else."
It amazes me that someone could write this song, perform it and not even listen to it themselves. I completely understand it, actually. I have been on both sides of the rope.
I fight major depression every day. What a lot of people don't understand about depression and suicide is that it is a daily battle. Unless you battle depression yourself, you won't fully comprehend what it's like. You carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. You care and love many and a lot of times, you could care and love yourself less. You put yourself down constantly. You feel like no one cares or like you're just completely worthless. Noone truly understands how much you hurt inside. My mother battled it and my brother battled it and lost. I am still fighting and won't ever give up. I have learned to love myself as my own best friend because noone in this life has been there more for me than me. I have people that I know count on me. I cannot and will not let tbem down or especially myself. There was a time not long ago, that I wanted nothing more than to take my life. The reason I couldnt was because I had a baby that I had to protect. I had to be his voice when I couldn't find my own. I was obliterated mentally and emotionally. I was so broken inside that I cried every day for a solid year and a half. I have seen the pain transferred from one person to many. I was one of the many affected.
When you get the urge to take your own life, you need to think of everyone you would be hurting. Realistically.
Allow yourself to feel what you feel but never act on it. Because you can't fix things when you're dead.

Rifty's Cat. Truly a monster voice, may he finally be at peace. Not to take away from chester, he is irreplaceable! But give credit to mike those are his lyrics. Most people keep forgetting that mike was and is the lead lyricist and composer of linkin park.
Mike Shinoda on shoutweb.com: "This was going to be an instrumental track that was 10 minutes long. The guys convinced me to turn it into a full song. I'm proud of this song in a lot of ways. I put a lot of work into it. I just think it's really powerful. Chester's performance is one of his best. Lyrically, it's kind of just about getting away from the parts of you that you do not like. It goes into great deal about that type of situation. The things about our lyrics in general is that we spend so much time on them that there is no way I can tell you in conversation any better than the actual lyrics. If I sit here and think up something, that's an off-the-top-of-my-head summary of what those lyrics are about whereas those lyrics took five years to do. So those lyrics are the most accurate depiction of what that's about, not what I can tell you."

My friends have always teased me for still being such an early 2000's music junkie but those years were such a crucial time in my life. Bands like Linkin Park, blink-182, Simple Plan, Green Day, etc... they all became part of who I am. I think I'm still in shock about Chester. I'm really struggling to wrap my head around the fact that he's gone. I've felt so many different emotions.. sadness, anger, nausea, confusion, numbness.. God damnit.. Fuck, I will miss him.

Chester Carved his voice into my mind forever, And i will never, ever forget it.
      -Some of his best lyrics:
*"You said it was forever, But then you slipped away, Standing at the end of the final masquerade"* - (final masquerade)
*"When my time comes, Forget the wrong that I've done, Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed. And when You're feeling empty keep me in your memory, Leave out all the rest."* - (Leave out All The rest)
-I keep singing these to myself as a final thank you to Chester :')

As someone with an abusive mother, I know exactly how it feels to have someone warp you to the point where you don't even know who you are and you need them out of your life so you can start to find yourself. Their lyrics put into words emotions that I didn't even known I'd felt. But that album helped me understand myself and to process my trauma

      @LoriCLove71 7 лет назад +7

Majin Buu He was definitely damn brilliant! I miss him already but my personal opinion is that it wasn't suicide as Chris Cornell's wasn't suicide. I have read all 35 pages of police records which clearly isn't all of them, just hand picked for the public to view & I knew them ruling Chris's a suicide so fast as they did bothered me for good reason. Now I know something's wrong, you can view them online & you won't believe the inconsistencies in the report from the bodyguard & holes all through his story. There are missing photos from the hotel scene that night that doesn't show everything depicted in the report. The photos they should show are the ones I am most interested in seeing such as damage from both hotel doors leading to his room from the bottom of them b/c he says he kicked them both in. We don't see the damage from the bottom of the doors of course. Why would Chris ask about fixing his TV & laptop if he was so intent right after the concert to off himself? His shirt was torn, he had head trauma not mentioned in the coroner's report & 9 ribs broken. 9 ribs! That's not all from cpr! The medic that called his injuries & other info in mentioned those injuries but it's not in the coroner's report?? Chester & Chris were very close friends, so close he was godfather to Chris's son. Chris had an organization of his own against child sexual abuse & Chester was involved with him. There are many other things I've found out simply by reading this sloppy police investigation with 12;15am & 12:30am being reported by the bodyguard as the time he entered Chris's room last. What gives? Why aren't they following up on these inconsistencies? Someone wanted these 2 men taken out & I'm pissed! There are some prominent people getting some police involved in what we know to find out their opinion on this story. We don't know all the details of Chester's death as far as records shown to the public yet but I'm waiting. Chances are this will be another cover up & trolls need not bother to comment something rude simply b/c I'm stating facts here, you will be ignored. All those people know how to do is put you down & bully you instead of something constructive in their argument. Don't tell me about depression either b/c I have it & my husband took his own life 2 years ago b/c he suffered from 3 major mental illnesses for way too long & his was a suicide. The difference here is Chester HAD depression, he had gotten help & had the tools to deal with it, he was so happy finally in his life now, this just sucks!

The one song that got me was "Shadow of the Day" I listened to it over and over just listening to the lyrics made me cry. One sad thing is that i became a HUGE fan a little before the beginning of the summer of 2017, then a couple months later I realized they were on tour and i asked my Mother, "Can I go see this band, They're the best band ever" and they had none near the state I lived. She said, " Maybe when you're older, I just don't think that you are ready to go on a long trip just to see a concert." Then a couple of days later (I think) Chester passed away and my mom told me, I was just bawling, I didn't stop for days.

You all assume I'm safe here in my room , unless I try to start again". It's words that will forever haunt me because he's always said that he can't be on his own, otherwise his demons start messing with his mind. So, naturally I attribute that line to when he said that he sat in his closet in the dark shaking. It also brings me back to when he was crying during a live performance of this song. I can't imagine living that way for as long as Chester did. He was a very strong man. It's not selfish what he did. He wasn't in his right mind. 'Filthy mouth, no excuse

String me up from atop these roofs

I still remember the first time I ever heard LP, I was 8 years old, on the way home from soccer practice, when One Step Closer came on in the radio. It fucken blew my mind!! Hybrid Theory would up being the first CD I ever picked out. It helped me find Metal, and helped me be who I am today.
thank you so much Chester for all the memories

I just found this video and god it broke me all over again. Hearing your voice breaking talking about it had me crying.
Ive been a Chester/ LP fan for 18 years, this is a celebrity death that will forever stay with me. They saved my life when i hit that lowest of lows and wanted to give up. This was the only band that truly touched me to my core. During my darkest days, the loneliness days, the days of being misunderstood listening to LP hearing Chesters's words had a power of making you feel understood and not alone.
I will forever be so grateful for Chester and LP.
When he passed i saw one common thing being said "he saved my life" because of LP there are so many people here that may not have been if it wasnt for them having music that seemed to say everything we were feeling but didnt know how to express ourselves.

It's easier to run replacing this pain with something numb
It's so much easier to go than face all this pain here all alone
Even though "Easier to run" was represented in the video, I just feel that the actual chorus above is so strong, at least to me. It's easier to run (to die) from the pain that is life, and to replace the pain of life with the numbness of death.

It hurt me so much how so many people are talking about songs being suicide notes and misinterprets lyrics so much without doing a reserch. Like Mike said once: this song is not depressing, it's uplifting! If you really want to know about meaning of this song find video on yt named: Linkin Park "Heavy" Official Lyrics & Meaning and you will know that Chester didn't meant sucide. This verse comes after: "I keep dragging around what's bringing me down" so what he meant is that if he finds a way to let go of the things that he keeps dragging around, he'd finally be free, he'd finally be better.

There are two songs that I think could have been used to show his pain even more. "In the End" and "Breaking The Habit" Both are about the struggle and the fight to overcome your demons.
In the end I tried so hard and I got so far but in the end it didn't matter Had to fall to lose it allI think is about his fight with his addictions. He fought so hard to end them but something happened and he lost the fight.
Breaking the habit" memories consume, I'm opening the wounds. I'm picking me apart again. You all assume I'm safe here in my room , unless I try to start again".I think this is about his fight with depression. Its hard fighting your memories and you always pick and pick and pick at your self when you are alone.I am going to miss him.

Chester had a voice and in his music that I can relate to in many ways. I felt like if people had just listened to several of his songs he was telling through music it's like he was reaching out for help. I have listen to to his songs and especially his song leave out all the rest I that song has laid me my heart in mind since the first time I heard it. My heart is shattered and broken. As l still listen to the songs I feel how I can relate to so many of them. The loss of Chester is one that truly impacted my life and shook me to my foundation. I know what it's like to suffer from molestation and drug addiction. I am 6 years drug free, but it's a battle I face daily. I'm 38 and had dream to see Linkin Park in concert. I will never get that opportunity but Chester and his voice and music will is something I carry with me everyday. I named my kitten Linkin Park Chester Bailey. I believe he knew he was going to take his life eventually. These songs are his suicide notes to the world and his family. I have had a very traumatic childhood as well. Attempted suicide at 16. Also struggled with drugs lost about 20 friends to pain pills. When i heard crawling i knew this band was different. I could feel chesters pain in the music. I would tell my friends chester puts his whole soul in the music. We could feel his pain in the music. I think its therapeutic for us to hear these things in the music. Hearing chester scream these lyrics was special.✌
