I don't know the person who made that futon, but I would die for one made by them! They make it look so perfect, and yet make the working process look so easy! But, I'm sure that it may take years to perfect it. I think that the video real time must have taken over an hour at the least, due to how many times the video skipped.
Talk about a zero waste bed 😄 I’m planning on getting one soon. My “Japanese futon” from amazon hasn’t been the most comfortable thing to sleep on lately. I’ve heard so many great things about handmade Japanese futons, who could pass one up? I’m sure my back will thank me.
So much respect! Watching a true master of their craft always reminds me that there is nothing better than the present moment! They live in it! I am humbled!
I bought a Japanese Shikibuton after years of wanting one. I LOVE it. My back pain is non existent and most nights I find that I don't use my pillow. Thank you for sharing your craft!
I'm Sarcastic I found a source online a year or so back and they were reasonable (and super lovely) but the cost of shipping from Japan was astronomical. Did you find a maker in the States?
Me : Yeah mom of course I know how to make my OWN bed I'm a grown up now for cryin out loud. Probably do a better job than you now. Mom : Hold my Saké.

Does anyone know where I could get that kind of wadding? I want to make my own (I'm in the UK) and have tried searching all over the internet in multiple languages even and can't seem to find where I could order it, even in Japan.
Hello japan people from 11 years ago, I will be making my first shikibuton and this video was great help thank you
Love this video. I want to make my own mattress and this video really opened my imagination. We have lots of sheep farms here. Maybe I could use wool batting instead of cotton? Perhaps one day I'll be able to tell you how it came out. =)
We're all lazy. We want instant gratification and we can no longer deal with waiting or hard physical labor as a whole. Ya know how people complain that there are no jobs. Well. That isnt true, we just dont want to get out in the sun and work in fields or under houses. My dad has been working at the same ac company for 20 years. He said people come and go because they dont expect the work to be so hard.
L. George you clearly have never been to japan to say that if you’re in tokyo you don’t need to fit in bc everyone minds their own business here, and foreigners always tend to go either to tokyo or kyoto, sometimes osaka. Tokyo is diverse af so people dont gaf esp towards foreigners bc they know we have different views or we sort of value individuality more in our society... japanese people are friendly and nice they r just culturally more uptight and dont talk to strangers but i dont see a lot of japanese people openly being racist or pushing down an agenda on us like they are literally the friendliest once you crack up their shells. There’s no such thing as people pushing away foreigners bc they r not japanese anymore unless they suck
Mawata is fantastic, that is ways more comfortable than western cotton , but it is so hard to find even in Japan and so expensive . Amazing job,
i'm really surprised by how few layers he puts inside in comparison to a wool mattress, but maybe i shouldn't? futons are basically large body pillows after all
I sleep on something quite similar to this and it is so comfy. In fact whenever I have to travel and, stay in motels, I never sleep well on 'a normal bed'..My body misses my futon...
so beautiful - what an honor to watch, thank you for sharing your craft. =)

Where are you located?
Leilani de la Vigne I fell asleep 2 times but came back and replay it. She must be a perfectionist.

Could. Not. Stop. Watching.

Pachebel's Canon always brings tears to my eyes! Also, this woman has some serious skills!
I feel like I just watched a larva crack up its cocoon and turn into a butterfly, I want to cry
I always wondered why the edges of my futon felt rolled. Now I know why. Thank you!!
Very wonderful to see you work. Thank you.
I want one. I've been sleeping on rolled blankets. Spring beds hurt my back which I injured. this seems like a much better idea.
if you want one... just buy it. :D
Actually, I make one. Just copy what she did
www.otafukuwata.com/index.html
I'm starting to really like the Japanese culture.
Holy shit, that's amazing! She's so talented, how long has she been doing this?
Amazing. All handmade & looks insanely comfortable.
...and I was looking for instructions for a simple zabuton chair pad! Wow what perfection of the craft.
I watched in astonishment; and just when I thought she was done she started tufting, and I cried.

This is beautiful🥰such patience and attention to detail

Somehow i believe that the success of men is because of women like these.... highest respect and honor to you.... and thank you.
wow impressive great work and patience!
Great video! I think cotton futon is 10x better than the western spring mattress.
Does anyone know where I could get that kind of wadding? I want to make my own (I'm in the UK) and have tried searching all over the internet in multiple languages even and can't seem to find where I could order it, even in Japan.
PokutePyon

So perfect !!! Congrats !!!! It is a touchy hand made work !!!
Amazing! A true artist. I watched every second of it, fascinated.
I want to buy THAT CLOUD SHE JUST CREATED!!! OMG!!!! I'm sooooo sleepy right now!
I want to try this now. I don’t know yet if the material and cotton will be harder to get and more expensive than buying a pre made fouton.
Hello japan people from 11 years ago, I will be making my first shikibuton and this video was great help thank you
the mattress at the end looks so fluffy and beautiful.
Love this video. I want to make my own mattress and this video really opened my imagination. We have lots of sheep farms here. Maybe I could use wool batting instead of cotton? Perhaps one day I'll be able to tell you how it came out. =)
I’m going to sandwich natural wool rovings between layers of cotton batting. Planning to make one with japanese dobby cloth cover.
Nice, made with love...
Hermosísimo trabajo gracias por mostrarlo
she is my inspiration,
well done. thank you
Where do I buy the cotton padding for inside the futon and is it expensive?
Looks like batting, its not terribly expensive.
much love, gratitude, appreciation, and respect for the masterful craftsmanship of this awesome creator ❤
Fabulous! Expert hands.
I never wanted a FUTON MATTRESS before watching this but now I'll dream about them!
Mesmerizing and inspiring. Perfect video for afternoon nap time....

Minute 22:15 what is the string rope for? Is it just cosmetic? Just to flatten out the corners?
Mawata is fantastic, that is ways more comfortable than western cotton , but it is so hard to find even in Japan and so expensive .
Amazing job,

June 2024 - still totally in awe of this incredibly talented lady! Wondering if you made one of these yet?
Where to buy such a good futon?
They should have included a website where these can be purchased
what is the material use? cotton? can you buy it anywhere?
hinesmariasilva No it is what Japanese call Mawata 真綿 it is silk floss from the cocoon
Is that wool or synthetic fiber?
thank you for sharing, it so great to see it
Hermoso trabajo...
What about the inside material. What you think it is?
