    If you liked this video please do like & Subscribe for more! I had to have a sit down after this one and contemplate all my life choices to date! The balanced is harder than I expected. How are you finding it ? Did you go Narrative, Balance or Hardcore Tactician? 🐺

    • @AxeGaijin
      @AxeGaijin Год назад +1

      Playing balanced and while it seems hard a first once you get beyond level 3 it opens up quite a bit as you're not that squishy any more and have more spells/skills/etc. to play around with.
      That said it does still need a certain amount of strategic input that might take longer to getting used to if one has never played a cRPG or Tactics game (Yay for X-Com) even on balanced. Just had a massive fight in the under dark that I thought I wouldn't survive, (totally outnumbered) but no one even went down.
      And Congo Rats on 1k :)

      Went tactician since I played a ton of Divinity Original Sin 2, which this game is extremely similar too. In fact its pretty much Divinity with a dnd skin. There is so many unique ways to solve problems and interact with the environment in the game, I love it.
      Also you can heal others with potions in one of two ways, throw it on the ground directly next to them, or open the party inventory and have the character you want to use it on use it from the others inventory

      The fights are easier with a full party, your strategic decision to send Astarion to camp was certainly an inspired choice, but it does make combat harder.

    About the boar: to speak to animals you actually have to cast the speak with animals spell. It will last, if im not mistaken, until you take a long rest, so don't worry about the duration. Cast it once and you can talk with every animal you find until you rest.

    It's completely normal to make mistakes when learning a new system. It might be based on 5E but the combat mechanics take some getting used to for new players. You're doing great and bear Tavi falling through the floor was incredibly entertaining.
    High ground is very important in BG3 and it's one of the reasons "Fiona" was destroying your party. Just make sure you're making use of high ground during encounters or make sure your opponents don't have that kind advantage over your party whenever you can. Excited for the rest of your playthrough.

Thought a bit about my mistakes, reloaded, and absolutely wiped the floor with them.

    I'm a DnD veteran. Played all of the old Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Dragon Age (among others) games and have been a DM for more than a decade, so I cockily thought Tactician would be easy. Spoiler alert - it is not :D I'm still sticking with it because I'm stubborn, and its not as bad now that my party is level 5, but myyy goddd was it frustrating the first 4-5 hours!!
    I'm also a super slow player who likes to take my time and check every nook and cranny, read every book and item description and scan the environment for possible improvised weapons (like the stone that hangs above the bandits). I often pump NPCs for information as much as possible before making a decision, and choose combat as my last resort. So all of those things definitely helps. Really enjoying your playthrough and seeing this type of game from a completely fresh perspective. Keep it up!

His play through is so hilarious, he chose to play as a male Githyanki warlock, who kills shadowheart(twice, once on the ship, second on the beach when he resurrected her) than he accidentally falls into a crypt( sort of like u😉) solo, he also chose not to pick Eldritch blast, but picked poison spray instead. You can click on and talk to your companions anytime. They may have things to say about recent events or a new area you entered in. Otherwise most of the chatting you can do is with them back in your camp when your rest for the night. Sometimes if companions especially want to talk they will have an '!' over their head (but even ones without an '!' will usually have stuff to say in camp so don't ignore them).
    For speaking to animals . . you can 'speak' to any of them and interact like you did with the boar. But to actually converse in animal language you need to cast your Speak with Animals Spell. Once cast it will last the entire day until you sleep.

    Don't fee bad . . . your just starting and at the early levels all sorts of things can go crazy.
    You actually did really well to eventually get out of combat, short rest, and then revive Tavi. Most people would have just exited and reloaded their game . . . Proud of you for working it out! 🙂You'll learn that way!
    You had low hit chances on the Mage because she was above you . . . Gale's sleep spell would have been good to take her out of action. And Tavi has Thorn Whip to pull the mage down. When Gale himself was put to sleep, another character can use the Help option to wake him up.
    The Jump action would let you go over the bad terrain . . . or in/out of the hole you made.

    If you are in a position where you can't get to the body, say it was pushed down a deep chasm, there will be a little floating orb at the ledge that is the char's soul that you can cast the rez on it to bring them back.

    You can actually transfer potions from 1 char's inventory to another's for free in combat.either open the inventory of the char that has the desired potion and right click and select the name of the char you want to have it. Or you can right click on the potion and select "drink 'name'" where the name is the char you want to drink the potion and that char will drink it as if it was in their inventory. The 'name' will always be the char who's current turn it is.
    You can also access all party inventories at once. There is a button above the party portraits on the far left of the screen, if you click on that it opens every char's inventory at once so you can see everyone's. You can also scroll between inventory, spells and character sheets from there. When you look at character sheets, it will show you each party members attitude towards you

  • @kmcd6140

    You've probably realized this, by now, but all of the characters can be respecced. The story prompts assume they are the default class, but you can totally turn the wizard into a barbarian, if you like. The only things you can't change are your race and background.
    [Tab] opens inventory for your party. You can trade almost any time. You can send stuff to your Camp Stash at almost any time. Practice Jumping. You can Jump outside of combat at any time. You can go to CAMP at any time (outside of combat). Going to Camp and Resting are separate things.
    Circle of the Moon refreshes your Wild Shape on a SHORT Rest. Gail is Evocation by default. Clerics choose their sub-c at creation. Rogues choose sub-c at 3rd. Humans get training in more weapons and Light Armor, so Gail can wear some armor, a shield, and use spears, and such.
    Most containers can be picked up, taken, placed, and/or thrown. This can help to organize your inventory, adjust the environment , or to chuck it at targets. The environmental interactions in this game are phenomenal. If you can imagine it, you can probably do it.

    This was such a fun contrast! The first time I saw this part played it was by optimizers (like myself), who, despite killing everything and dismissing all the NPC characters (the party was full of human players, so why spoil the NPC stories), went through some big goblin fights in a town before even needing to rest for the first time, on tactician no less.
    It's so fun what a bit of experience and tactical knowledge will do to the difficulty of D&D combat. But it’s also why it is so hard to balance combat difficulty between different groups of players. What one group of players call a cakewalk another group can really struggle with, even if they’d all use the same characters. 🤔
    At least the revivify here is way more forgiving than in the tabletop game!

    Before starting my own session of Baldur's Gate this evening, I had this video and the previous one on in the background as I was finishing up some other things. This location is challenging even in the easy difficulty (which I'm using even though I'm experienced with this type of game because I don't want to eat up any more time in combat than necessary). Thanks to my smooth talking bard, I took care of the outdoor portion by convincing them to run away, but the others were still inside, and they were hostile. The fight wasn't too awful, but then I got caught up in some traps elsewhere in the crypt because my bard failed to disarm the big one, and that was a pain, but in turn based mode, it wasn't too difficult to rush everyone past the hazards. Now, I think it's time for me to get back into it. I've poured myself a nice glass of rattlesnake-infused sotol, and I'm ready to go.

    When you're attacking a spell caster who has mage armour - or anyone with high AC - sometimes cantrips like Sacred Flame give you a far better chance to hit because their AC doesn't matter, they either make the save or they take the damage as opposed to you needing to roll an attack against their Armour Class. Flame Arrow takes an attack roll - so AC will matter. Other spells require no roll to hit.
    It works this way in Table Top at least. Perhaps this will help?

    Intro: You weren't using Speak with animals ability with the bore you have to cast it and it lasts until long rest, also you did click on Astarion and sent him back to camp telling him you didn't want him in your current party, if you would have chosen leave, he would have stayed as you are "leaving the conversation" ...I believe you can throw a potion at a friendly, though I haven't figured that part out yet, I actually missed Gale in my Playthrough, wonder if I can get him later. My original character way back in the D&D 3.1 was a druid for animal companion I thought I recalled before I started playing in 5.0 that changed and it was a ranger that has that, so I recreated my original character but changed classes to ranger, however his son, will be a druid, I do like the animal form idea, I'll save that for my multiplayer playthrough but its great to see someone taking on a druid as I wasn't familiar with the 5.0 rule set, but am learning it through the game

      Be warned that based on your actions and decisions, certain characters might leave your party if your goals are not aligned. (although you'll get some ample warning as if the DM is asking you: "Are you sure you wanna do this?") You'll get party members of al types of alignments, so maybe you don't even want them around. Many people can't stand Astarion, and kill him right away, I think he's a hoot, even though he and my main char are not aligned, but I like pulling his chains ever once in a while.
      Oh and that bit at the crypt, I first chose that first option too on my first time in EA. Turns out you're basically telling a bunch of tugs you're a pushover. The persuasion/deception options lets you roll to avoid combat there. I guess in a TT encounter you could do a insight check to see what they're up to, but seeing how they react to you and argue with each other is kind of a give away that it will be a fight if choose the wrong thing to say.

You also seem to forget / ignore dash and movement in general. 18:25 I really don't wanna sound mean or anything, but why aren't you just moving to the caster and hit her in melee? :3(with shadowheart or your druid) Or cast firebolt with gale? 18:48 use the inventory(press "i") or throw them at your party members(actually works). 19:29 she has high ground and you let her hit you. Don't worry about your near TPW. I might have gotten past the rogues outside the ruins without a fight, but I did TPW a little further into the game. Just means you go back to the last save/autosave of course.

    Don't feel bad about not know about the potion throwing thing. I know about it and I forget I can do it. Also, I find that concept amusing. Those bottles look pretty sturdy and have sharp corners. Seems like they should do damage. I wouldn't want to have one those chucked at me.

      Yeah it's weird one being honest! In actually D&D let's say someone is down and your give them the bottle your basically forcing it in their mouths technically haha! So I thought it would work like that 😅

    If you want real RNG with rolls like actual D&D, you should turn off Karmic Dice in the gameplay settings. There's lot of discussion with either leaving it on or off but if you want real randomness like a dice roll, turn it off.

    It's interesting to see someone else start the game. Be careful if you get that invested into the well being of NPCs. I did just about everything you could to screw up all of the plot branches into the worst territory it could. Depending on your choices this game can become horrifically dark very quickly. I have a little more faith in your decision making though.

    Wow that fight turned out soo different for you than it did for me. I play a drow rouge so naturally my first instict was to sneak up and listen to these guys. I then decided not to talk to them at all and started my combat with shooting the thing hanging from the crane above the two lads killing both of them instantly turning the fight from a 4 vs 4 to a 4 vs 2. You were also a bit hampered by not having a full party at the start of the battle. I think you misread the chat dialogue with Astarion as the second option said "Leave" which means leave the chat, not telling him leave the party.
    I will for sure follow your upcoming adventures. balanced really isnt as hard as you might fear right now but definatly play with a bit more hesitation as to everyone being friendly and pay keen attention to your surroundings and what scenery items may help you in battles. Oh and also, high ground advantage is important for all ranged attacks.

    have a feeling many so called dnd 'nerds' learn the actual system the hard way with BG3 xD

    • @moonlightoracleplays
      @moonlightoracleplays  7 месяцев назад +1

      Haha there is alot of differences between the two in terms of systems so don't think they can be totally equated. Even the speak with animals last until long rest in BG3 but not D&D so there is still alot of differences as much as there is similarities. I will say though me falling through the floor was a great gateway into what to expect 😂

    • @cmdr.o7
      @cmdr.o7 6 месяцев назад

      @@moonlightoracleplays that is true, what i meant was often when start playing tabletop, you don't have a sense of how the combat mechanics of dnd actually works as a whole, sometimes resulting in wasted turns that doesn't do much, taking attacks of opportunity or healing vs doing damage, crowd control so on, its of course more fluid and narrated in tabletop - as part of the fun 😂
      in a tactical game you see the combat system in action, so there is a lot to learn from that which helps in tabletop too
      even if some things are slightly different. 3rd-4th ed dnd was actually very tactical system
