Planning on continuing in Hoenn in a what if I wrote and I intend to keep Ash without major rivals until the end, to highlight how overconfident he can become without tough competition keeping him grounded.
Honestly, i actually don't mind Tobias. Yes, he was just put there to stop ash, but i feel like he could have been interesting if they actually used him. I don't mind him having more minor legendaries, like Darkrai or latios. I wouldn't want him having a groudon or something, but if they gave him something like a raikou or something, it could be pretty neat. Or, if they wanted to use him to introduce the next gen, it could be revealed that he actually had a victini he'd befriended, which is what let him catch legendaries and always win his fights. I wish he got to come back for the masters 8, and we got to see more of his character. It'd be pretty neat.

I have this theory that Tobias was hired by Hunter J, and her last request before her "death" was to defeat the one who has defeated her (which is Ash), and I believe that's how he got a full team of Legendaries.
Okay but I unironically love the new Tobias team. Half of it is Cynthia's team so it kinda lets us be delusional about Ash fighting Cynthia in Sinnoh but also is a powerhouse team with spooky picks like Spiritomb and Porygon Z to keep Ash on his toes. Only thing I dislike is Rotom. It's too puny for Tobias. I would give him a Tyranitar personally but to maintain your concept, I would make it a Rotom Refrigerator Infernape battle nut with Paul honestly sounds cool especially since I love the idea of Roserade being constantly afraid of it like Oshawott was afraid of most battles but Roserade always rises to the challenge and defeats the ultra violent Infernape despite being silly and goofy
I think Ash's main rival in Unova, who could actually beat him, should be Benga. Being the grandson of the champion, he would have trained harder than most to have the chance to prove himself.

Leon is my favorite champion, but I really did hate that his ace was Charizard. It would have been cool if his ace was urshifu showing his roots studying under mustard and a nice sneak peek into the dlc to come
In my little fanfic, I would have Ash battle Mustard and Urshifu who would want to see if Ash would be able to stand up to Leon. It was a late addition to Galar but I gave Leon a Zarude as his ace cause it was mentioned in game he didn't finish Mustard's trials due to getting lost. In this Zarude lived on the Isle of Armor, beefing with Mustard's Urshifu but then Leon befriended it and though he didn't finish Mustard's trials he calmed Zarude who become's his ace later on.
"Sandslash feels Ash adjacent" i now feel more vindicated about giving Ash a timid Sandshrew that evolves into a more confident and capable Sandslash in a years later fic that i unfortunately had to shelf after Alola anf Journeys made it obsolete by havong him win.
Honestly I feel like hating on Alain might be considered higher Pokémon heresy than having Paul keep Infernape. I mean, in this world if Paul's training style is what Infernape needs, then it probably wouldn't be as badly harmed as in canon so one of the big reasons people wouldn't like Paul having Infernape would be gone.
Video Suggestion Idea. What If The Master 8 Had Different Competitors? Besides Ash and Leno of course who'll still need to battle, what if the original six contestants (Cynthia, Diantha, Steven, Iris, Lance, Alain) were replaced with other characters from the anime to partake in the Master 8 instead of them? that could make for a fun video.
First and foremost I just wanna say that your videos are all amazing and getting better as time goes by. Amazing work. You're doing great so keep at it. Love the presentation style as well as the art and creative choices. The odder the better. Fearow for Ritchie is amazing! I like how he gets Sandslash since it's the "Mouse Pokémon" just like Pikachu. Alakazam for Gary is very fitting, how come he didn't use the one he had is beyond me. It's a natural beast. I can see Paul's controlled Z-Move'd Infernape fighting Ash's Mega Gallade in a Alola League Champion Title Defense. I like how Tobias gets Porygon-Z. Not only is it a Cynthia Pokémon in the BDSP rematches but it's poetic VS Pikachu. Having Spiritomb is amazing because in Gen 4 they were a Pokémon with no weaknesses due to lack of Fairy Type. SIDE TANGENT aka RAMBLING: If Ash was to had faced the Sinnoh Elite 4 and only allowed to use 6 in a gauntlet to make it more challenging I feel like he would reach Flint. Losing 1 Pokémon to Aaron since he's the most recent member due to Volkner rejecting the position and losing 2 to Bertha to make her realize she's past her prime and that the new generation is thriving. It would give Ash a run for his money by trying to 3v6 Flint but I'm sure that Pikachu would style on those "heat themed Pokémon" if the Platinum members aren't used. And if they are, I can see Rampardos being the MVP there tbh. Roserade would lose to Aaron after toxic stalling all his Bugs and both Gastrodon and Drifblim would be overwhelmed by Bertha's Whiscash and Gliscor. I think both Ash's Magmortar and Flint's Infernape having a draw would look cool so that Pikachu loses the final match to HEATRAN (this would later on give Cynthia's Garchomp a legendary feat as well). I feel like if Ash was to lose in the actual Conference finals it would've made sense to be against Riley since he's a Stat Trainer that focuses on Attack and he uses an Entei in the Battle Tower Multi Partner option (at it was shown to us in Opening 13). It would make sense for Ash to face the Fire Emissary of Ho-Oh as some sort of spiritual evaluation of his Trainer career. As for Trip, his choices make sense. He gets Cameron's secret weapon and a Pokémon with no natural weaknesses. Gladion's is solid. I can see Pyroar and Swoobat as nods to Cosmog evolutions. Odd choice for him tho: Frosmoth. Evolution at nighttime + friendship. Teases Gen 8. Bug Type as nod Guzma Enforcer. Contrast/hint to Volcarona's Sun. For me, all Mega Evo capable species for Alain: Charizard, Metagross, Tyranitar + Pidgeot, Beedril and Swampert. After Malva's retirement, make him a Dark E4: MegaZard Z, TTar, Kingambit, Weavile, Malamar and YVELTAL (yes). For Leon I can see Mr. Rime has the ace since it's a nod to an Ash family member but also a nice Eternatus counter. Psychic > Poison and Ice > Dragon. Perrserker makes sense since Chairman Rose is a Steel expert. Love that detail.

I necessarily think the training was the issue with Paul and Chimchar; rather, it was Paul's lack of proper care and respect. Chimchar was opposed to the training itself. As you mentioned, training to handle abusive situations and to enhance a Pokémon's strength is inherently bad. However, it's just as crucial to treat your Pokémon with respect and care. Nurse Joy pointed out that EVIL Paul was too focused or too blind to immediate results. This brings to mind an interesting point Ash made. At one point, Ash's training methods with Chimchar were not much different from Paul's. For instance, during the episode where Turtwig evolved, Ash and his friends' Pokémon directed attacks at Ash, Chimchar, and some of his other Pokémon. The key difference in Ash's approach was fairness. Ash ensured the training was never too harsh for Chimchar, involved other Pokémon in the training, and even participated himself, standing by Chimchar's side to show solidarity. This shared experience fostered a bond that enabled Infernape to perfect Blaze and trust Ash enough to adopt Evil Paul's strategy in harnessing Blaze.
Please do a part 2. And add Nando 🎶 Poor Nando got done so dirty in the anime when he got pitted against Ash in the FIRST ROUND of the Sinnoh League 😭 Nando deserves so much better

Tobias was a sort of self insert of a Trading Card Game tournament winner. two of the cards the winner used were Latios and Darkrai. his others were Lucario, Toxicroak, Skuntank and Honchkrow.
Alain’s team during the Kalos league was damn near perfect . Just replace his Unfrezant with Chesnaught, and we would have a rival that has a team of Pokémon from the first 6 regions

What I like about your tobias team other than taking out his bullshit legendaries is that half his team is aped from cynthia. Which gave me two (one if you combine them) headcanons. Tobias is a massive cynthia fan the other one is that he is a massive poser trying to imitate her team because she's strong without understanding what makes her strong (other than her pokemon)
I'm curious, do you ever plan to do a video on Ash's gym/league battles in this universe? Since Ash has completely brand new teams, his gym battles will totally different, and I think that could make for an interesting video or videos. But if not, that's fine.
I do actually know a single Tobius fan in my younger brother. He liked Tobius for 3 reasons. Reason 1) Darkrai is his favourite pokémon Reason 2) He likes how mysterious he is. Reason 3) "He is hot" is his exact words.
Oh my gosh, I loved that Paul line up, ESPECIALLY Infernape. Don't get it twisted, I love Infernape and its story to this day. Its my second favorite behind Pikachu. But the idea that in this alternate world he's a monster who thrives off getting damaged and unlocking Blaze to sweep is so cool. Plus the idea Ash's goofy Roserade is the one to prove that his methods are valid (semi hot take I don't think Paul is necessarily wrong. Yes, it's clear that not only was he too hard on Chimchar, that also just wasn't an environment Chimchar could thrive in but it's clear he's still not easy on his Pokemon but they do work in that brutal environment a prime example being that monster of an Ursaring) could be a really good end to the arc. I do also like Tobias still having that mystique of a powerful trainer with rare Pokemon but not being a cop out action replay master with literally *0* value in the story besides the one episode he sweeps Ash's team. I also also like that Ash wins the League but gets washed by the Elite Four because that's a good way of showing him getting stronger while also showing he has a ways to go. As for where I get a little bit disagreeable, I (to be clear, respectfully) disagree with your Alain take. Not just cause -I'm basic- I love Charizard but because I do think he has a story reasoning for being so strong, that being fighting almost exclusively Mega Evolutions and Legendaries. I don't think any of the Gyms are handling someone who's doing that. I also don't think that Alain was just a strong guy who would come in to beat Ash like literally every single other opponent Ash lost to in the League (except for Cameron, how did he lose that). He had his own entire story line that established a character for him. I also think that Ash losing does great things for the Team Flare arc after because hearing about Lysandre's true intentions, he's motionlessly distraught at the carnage he helped create, but Ash shows off his never give up attitude which inspired Alain to keep moving to save Kalos, presenting that while he may be stronger, Ash in some ways is better. Now this isn't to say that because there is reasons presented for it, you are now not allowed to dislike it (as an example I'm not super into the "does it still work if they evolve" theory from your second Ash video even though I respect it as a good reason) I'm just putting it out there that while it stung really hard back when I first watched the battle, I don't personally have a problem with Alain as a character or how he beat Ash. I do hate his scarf and like his remade team if that counts for anything. I thought Bisharp was pretty cool so if I could bring one Pokemon back it would be them but the others were there for the sake of having a full team of 6 and nothing else. Now this comment is way longer than it needs to be but one more thing. Leon having Mr. Rime as the ace is based. I think the ace being a pseudo is appropriate but boring so having this goofy mime surprisingly style on everyone is a-ok by me.

It was the lack of proper care, respect, and appreciation from Paul. Like you said, training for harsh situations and bringing out a Pokémon’s strength isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But it’s equally important to respect your Pokémon, and treat them with care. At the time, like Nurse Joy said, Paul was too impatient with pushing towards results. It reminds me of an interesting point that Paul brought up. At least at one point, Ash’s training (at least in terms of the training itself) with Chimchar wasn’t too different from Paul’s. During the episode where Turtwig evolved, Ash’s and friends’ Pokémon were sending attacks at Ash, Chimchar, and a few of his other Pokémon. But the difference between how Ash handled the training and how Paul did was that Ash never made it unfair for Chimchar. Plus, Ash had other Pokémon train alongside Chimchar, and Ash himself stood alongside them, enduring the same training, to reassure Chimchar that he wasn’t alone. It was that bond that allowed Infernape to master Blaze, and even trust Ash in following Paul’s approach in bringing out Blaze.
@@jakandratchet9930 Yes I totally agree. I feel like it can even be seen in how they battle with Chimchar/Infernape and Blaze. With Paul Blaze was the end goal, the only part about Chimchar that mattered, so he would put him in inherently disadvantageous situations and have him take hits for the sake of taking hits so when Blaze did come out it was just regular, maybe even weaker than the starter type boost abilities normally are since it was gained artificially (at least metaphorically speaking). Meanwhile take Ash in the Sinnoh League. Blaze is probably somewhere in his mind and he's constantly using Infernape but that's the thing. Blaze is not the priority. Ash most likely believes that even if Infernape doesn't get Blaze, he can still do this. That's what makes the ability so (metaphorically) natural and even more powerful than when Chimchar was in the wild. Ash's bond with his Pokemon was the differentiator. My main point was just how I feel like people thought Paul's training was bad in general. Now like I said Paul's lack of respect and harder conditions on Chimchar were wrong but with his other Pokemon, they are shown to be very strong competitors. While Paul wasn't as hard on them, he was definitely still strict, didn't affirm their successes and even rejected a Soothe Bell. And I don't necessarily disagree with it. I wouldn't do it myself but the Pokemon seemed very receptive to it and he did pretty well for himself. Plus I think it's much more narratively interesting to have Ash and Paul accept each other's differences rather than a blank "Ash is correct" since I feel like there should be different methods of Pokemon training. The only problem I have with this is that it kinda makes me look weird when saying I'm in Paul's corner.

SIDE TANGENT aka RAMBLING: If Ash was to had faced the Sinnoh Elite 4 and only allowed to use 6 in a gauntlet to make it more challenging I feel like he would reach Flint. Losing 1 Pokémon to Aaron since he's the most recent member due to Volkner rejecting the position and losing 2 to Bertha to make her realize she's past her prime and that the new generation is thriving. It would give Ash a run for his money by trying to 3v6 Flint but I'm sure that Pikachu would style on those "heat themed Pokémon" if the Platinum members aren't used. And if they are, I can see Rampardos being the MVP there tbh. Roserade would lose to Aaron after toxic stalling all his Bugs and both Gastrodon and Drifblim would be overwhelmed by Bertha's Whiscash and Gliscor. I think both Ash's Magmortar and Flint's Infernape having a draw would look cool so that Pikachu loses the final match to HEATRAN (this would later on give Cynthia's Garchomp a legendary feat as well). I feel like if Ash was to lose in the actual Conference finals it would've made sense to be against Riley since he's a Stat Trainer that focuses on Attack and he uses an Entei in the Battle Tower Multi Partner option (at it was shown to us in Opening 13). It would make sense for Ash to face the Fire Emissary of Ho-Oh as some sort of spiritual evaluation of his Trainer career.
As for Trip, his choices make sense. He gets Cameron's secret weapon and a Pokémon with no natural weaknesses.
Gladion's is solid. I can see Pyroar and Swoobat as nods to Cosmog evolutions. Odd choice for him tho: Frosmoth.
Evolution at nighttime + friendship. Teases Gen 8. Bug Type as nod Guzma Enforcer. Contrast/hint to Volcarona's Sun.
For me, all Mega Evo capable species for Alain: Charizard, Metagross, Tyranitar + Pidgeot, Beedril and Swampert.
After Malva's retirement, make him a Dark E4: MegaZard Z, TTar, Kingambit, Weavile, Malamar and YVELTAL (yes).
For Leon I can see Mr. Rime has the ace since it's a nod to an Ash family member but also a nice Eternatus counter.
Psychic > Poison and Ice > Dragon. Perrserker makes sense since Chairman Rose is a Steel expert. Love that detail.

I necessarily think the training was the issue with Paul and Chimchar; rather, it was Paul's lack of proper care and respect. Chimchar was opposed to the training itself.
As you mentioned, training to handle abusive situations and to enhance a Pokémon's strength is inherently bad. However, it's just as crucial to treat your Pokémon with respect and care. Nurse Joy pointed out that EVIL Paul was too focused or too blind to immediate results.
This brings to mind an interesting point Ash made. At one point, Ash's training methods with Chimchar were not much different from Paul's. For instance, during the episode where Turtwig evolved, Ash and his friends' Pokémon directed attacks at Ash, Chimchar, and some of his other Pokémon.
The key difference in Ash's approach was fairness. Ash ensured the training was never too harsh for Chimchar, involved other Pokémon in the training, and even participated himself, standing by Chimchar's side to show solidarity.
This shared experience fostered a bond that enabled Infernape to perfect Blaze and trust Ash enough to adopt Evil Paul's strategy in harnessing Blaze.

Oh my gosh, I loved that Paul line up, ESPECIALLY Infernape. Don't get it twisted, I love Infernape and its story to this day. Its my second favorite behind Pikachu. But the idea that in this alternate world he's a monster who thrives off getting damaged and unlocking Blaze to sweep is so cool. Plus the idea Ash's goofy Roserade is the one to prove that his methods are valid (semi hot take I don't think Paul is necessarily wrong. Yes, it's clear that not only was he too hard on Chimchar, that also just wasn't an environment Chimchar could thrive in but it's clear he's still not easy on his Pokemon but they do work in that brutal environment a prime example being that monster of an Ursaring) could be a really good end to the arc. I do also like Tobias still having that mystique of a powerful trainer with rare Pokemon but not being a cop out action replay master with literally *0* value in the story besides the one episode he sweeps Ash's team. I also also like that Ash wins the League but gets washed by the Elite Four because that's a good way of showing him getting stronger while also showing he has a ways to go.
As for where I get a little bit disagreeable, I (to be clear, respectfully) disagree with your Alain take. Not just cause -I'm basic- I love Charizard but because I do think he has a story reasoning for being so strong, that being fighting almost exclusively Mega Evolutions and Legendaries. I don't think any of the Gyms are handling someone who's doing that. I also don't think that Alain was just a strong guy who would come in to beat Ash like literally every single other opponent Ash lost to in the League (except for Cameron, how did he lose that). He had his own entire story line that established a character for him. I also think that Ash losing does great things for the Team Flare arc after because hearing about Lysandre's true intentions, he's motionlessly distraught at the carnage he helped create, but Ash shows off his never give up attitude which inspired Alain to keep moving to save Kalos, presenting that while he may be stronger, Ash in some ways is better. Now this isn't to say that because there is reasons presented for it, you are now not allowed to dislike it (as an example I'm not super into the "does it still work if they evolve" theory from your second Ash video even though I respect it as a good reason) I'm just putting it out there that while it stung really hard back when I first watched the battle, I don't personally have a problem with Alain as a character or how he beat Ash. I do hate his scarf and like his remade team if that counts for anything. I thought Bisharp was pretty cool so if I could bring one Pokemon back it would be them but the others were there for the sake of having a full team of 6 and nothing else.
Now this comment is way longer than it needs to be but one more thing. Leon having Mr. Rime as the ace is based. I think the ace being a pseudo is appropriate but boring so having this goofy mime surprisingly style on everyone is a-ok by me.
Glad you liked it! And agreed! Alain had a great story to him and valid reasons for his actions. I just don't like the guy XD. Mostly cause strong Charizard. It IS irrational on my end. I might dislike the guy, but I wouldn't deny he had a story to him.
Also love that reasoning for Ash losing. I went back and forth on him winning Kalos or not. Like I didn't have any BIG reasons why he would win, I just arbitrarily picked it. I might have to go back and retcon my world here so he's only won Sinnoh. Him losing helps contribute to the Alola victory. Hmmm thoughts for later.

With Paul and Chimchar, I don’t necessarily think it was the training itself that was the problem, and I don’t think Chimchar was against the training itself. It was the lack of proper care, respect, and appreciation from Paul.
Like you said, training for harsh situations and bringing out a Pokémon’s strength isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But it’s equally important to respect your Pokémon, and treat them with care. At the time, like Nurse Joy said, Paul was too impatient with pushing towards results.
It reminds me of an interesting point that Paul brought up. At least at one point, Ash’s training (at least in terms of the training itself) with Chimchar wasn’t too different from Paul’s. During the episode where Turtwig evolved, Ash’s and friends’ Pokémon were sending attacks at Ash, Chimchar, and a few of his other Pokémon.
But the difference between how Ash handled the training and how Paul did was that Ash never made it unfair for Chimchar. Plus, Ash had other Pokémon train alongside Chimchar, and Ash himself stood alongside them, enduring the same training, to reassure Chimchar that he wasn’t alone.
It was that bond that allowed Infernape to master Blaze, and even trust Ash in following Paul’s approach in bringing out Blaze.
@@jakandratchet9930 Yes I totally agree. I feel like it can even be seen in how they battle with Chimchar/Infernape and Blaze. With Paul Blaze was the end goal, the only part about Chimchar that mattered, so he would put him in inherently disadvantageous situations and have him take hits for the sake of taking hits so when Blaze did come out it was just regular, maybe even weaker than the starter type boost abilities normally are since it was gained artificially (at least metaphorically speaking). Meanwhile take Ash in the Sinnoh League. Blaze is probably somewhere in his mind and he's constantly using Infernape but that's the thing. Blaze is not the priority. Ash most likely believes that even if Infernape doesn't get Blaze, he can still do this. That's what makes the ability so (metaphorically) natural and even more powerful than when Chimchar was in the wild. Ash's bond with his Pokemon was the differentiator.
My main point was just how I feel like people thought Paul's training was bad in general. Now like I said Paul's lack of respect and harder conditions on Chimchar were wrong but with his other Pokemon, they are shown to be very strong competitors. While Paul wasn't as hard on them, he was definitely still strict, didn't affirm their successes and even rejected a Soothe Bell. And I don't necessarily disagree with it. I wouldn't do it myself but the Pokemon seemed very receptive to it and he did pretty well for himself. Plus I think it's much more narratively interesting to have Ash and Paul accept each other's differences rather than a blank "Ash is correct" since I feel like there should be different methods of Pokemon training. The only problem I have with this is that it kinda makes me look weird when saying I'm in Paul's corner.
