Transparent shell electronics need to make a comeback. Like those old Mac monitors with the bright transparent colors. I'm glad the retro handheld development side is keeping up with that sweet nostalgia(and it looks better). The black miyoo mini is no different, looks great!
I don't even think it's too bad. When I saw this video, I felt like I may have ordered the wrong color. However, it just came in today and it didn't seem nearly as bad when I was actually holding it in my hand and seeing it in person. Maybe it helps that the light bleed is fairly symmetrical as well. I thought it over and it kind of just occurred to me, if you order a transparent device, how can the light NOT bleed?
The transparent black looks awesome, nice and sleek. I'm looking at current handhelds under $80 and this one fits the bill. Great review, keep them coming
@@jlewis4441 Ok, you are right. Still, I do not recognize it as sufficient support. AFAIK OnionOS and MiniUI projects do not involve firmware development.
@@vamastah1737 I mean it's _community_ support. Or in other words, software support created outside the company who created the device. And while I'm not sure of all the details, I do know that OnionOS requires the latest Miyoo Mini firmware, the April update. And regardless, it absolutely is sufficient support in my opinion. Both OnionOS and MiniUI improve the overall software experience by a ton, and I believe they even optimize the performance of the device a bit. Pretty cool stuff this community has cooked up, which is great since it motivates more people to pick up a Miyoo Mini
The Miyoo Mini kinda reminds me of the Play it Loud Game Boys of the 90s. That transparent black one is definitely a looker and glad that the SFC colored buttons are on there. I like the RG552 but these handhelds are a pretty tempting impulse buy and would love to see more colors especially green and atomic purple!
I really think V2 of this console is an absolute slam dunk. It makes me excited to see what other manufacturers will respond with, especially Anbernic.
Transparent consoles make me so nostalgic! My first ever handheld was a transparent purple gbc. This thing is very charming lol I love it's portability. I never win giveaways but thought I'd give it a shot anyhow, fingers crossed!🤞Have a blessed day ☺️
Really appreciate the video. The light bleed is definitely a consideration. I was eyeing the black and the blue v2s and perhaps the white is the better choice as a daily driver. Thanks!
This is the one I have. I almost didn’t get one because I have too many of these things, but it’s pretty much the only emulator I use now. I don’t expect that to change until there’s something roughly rg350 sized that can do GameCube/ps2.
Did not know I wanted one of these until I watched your video about the custom firmware. Black is beautiful, blue should be good too, though I'd love to see red or green transparent versions.
Thanks for the opportunity to win one, I was definitely checking out the transparent blue and black versions. I do miss my transparent purple N64 controllers!
First time in my life hearing about this device but I'm quite impressed, been saving my ROMs from my GBA cartridges this year so this could come in very handy, would surely love to snatch it if luck makes it so!
I get why people like this handheld but I bought a Powkiddy v90 and it’s awesome. Great for genesis, SNES and GBA. It actually plays ps1 well enough too and it’s not bad ergonomically. £40 can’t go wrong & comes with 15000 games.
Recent versions of Onion actually don't require a firmware upgrade anymore, they're now designed to work equally well with both January and April firmwares because so many people were bricking their devices trying to upgrade.
Your earlier reviews of the Miyoo Mini convinced me to go ahead and order one a month or so back, but the shipment got messed up and it never arrived. I'm glad that happened now because I much prefer the translucent plastic models!
I have really been enjoying the videos, recently made an educated decision to buy the Rg351m because of your content. Looks like I’m about to buy this one too. Thanks!
I was playing DS Zoo Keeper on my 351P all the time because I couldn't find the GBA version and here it is, just called Zooo … Thanks, man, you saved me.
I really like that it's not completely transparent, but just enough that it's not pure black or just dimmed transparent case. Also probably the light bleed could be solved with electrical tape, or if one wishes and do a little soldering, with some resistors or maybe even lower power diodes But I LOVE THAT DEVICE ANYWAY !!!
Just got mine today. Had a hiccup upgrading to OnionOS onto new sd card and your guide saved me heaps of time with the formatting with that program. Am absolutely in love with how this looks, I want all the transparent colors plz! Thanks Russ
Since I'm following your Channel for a long time now and never got myself a Retrohandheld (shame on me, I still can't decide...) I think the Myoo Mini will be my first buy. I would love to be in the Giveaway and thank you for doing it!
Thankyou for the reviews I made 2 purchases one based on your reviews and one just looking through ebay. Guess why I'm thanking you?😅 I 'll still watch you for future references
Transparent consoles are such a double edged sword. On one hand, they look sexy as hell. On the other hand, they can bleed light in a way that distracts from the actual gameplay. In the end, I'm glad I chose to go opaque on my most recent handheld.
For that light bleed, I wonder if it would be easy enough to open and put black paint on the led (except the top) to at least dull it down. I have some minifigure paint/brushes and might give it a try.
It's 2022. We almost in July. Finally pulled the trigger to get the miyoo mini. After getting a vita 1k and 2k. And ds. And psp. Miyoo mini would be perfect to complete my collection.
Just ordered one of these as reluctant as I was. This reminds me of the very first emulator device I bought years ago, the Bittboy. I always loved the size of it and wish it had been more powerful & had shoulder buttons. But the build quality of it was always superb. Hopefully this lives up to expectations.
Already have one on the way as a gift in the OG Gameboy for my buddy, still trying to figure out the arcade roms. Really want that arcade rom video Russ!
The upside to these devices vs mainstream handhelds is the screen. I have a psp 2k, ds, 3ds and a switch. But my bittboy is playable outside in direct light, none of those are. So it’s the one that always ends up in my pocket. It also fits in my pocket which is nice.
Received the White V2 today had the latest firmware already installed, and installed OnionOS 3.11 as that released today makes such a great little device, Thanks Russ
@@RetroGameCorps Cheers Russ, keep up the awesome videos. Would love to see a video on all your favourite games, maybe there are some I've not played and missing out on :)
@@RetroGameCorps Russ on one of your video's you mentioned the Miyoo Mini being great to play RPG's would you have a recommended few I could try at all?
I ordered the blue one a couple of days ago and I'm looking forward to it greatly. It looks super clean and easy to take everywhere, unlike these official "portables" they sell now. Love me gameboy, lads
Thanks for the quick review! This handhelds color reminds me of my first retro handheld the LDK "little Dragon king " with the transparent black and multicolored face buttons, still have it as a dedicated zelda machine!
it's been so long since i've seen someone rip the screen protector film off instead of doing a slow ASMR peel. that was a clean pull too. gonna assume it's the navy training
The DMG-colored one will be with me in ~2 weeks. I'm looking forward to it and certainly don't mind you making a few dozen more videos about the Miyoo Mini. :) And here's my loud-as-ever call for anyone ever getting the 80s Game & Watch version of Super Mario Bros. (either the YM-105 or the Crystal Screen version) playing at original speed on any of the emulation devices to drop me a line... It would be perfection on an RG351P, really, as that'd be the perfect form factor for it.
I absolutely love the value proposition with this device and it's setting off all my gadget desire alarms....but I've got big hands and it would be basically unuseable for me. I really want one, just for how tight of a package it is, but I know i'd never be able to actually enjoy it.
The more I see of the Miyoo mini the more I like it and the more I’m glad that I got one ☺️ mine has shipped and is in transit! I can’t wait to put mini ui on it. Some of my favorite games can be played on this and I’m really excited about that. About to enjoy the legend of Zelda Minish cap all over again ☺️
Yeah, the only drawback is a tiny bit of slowdown in certain parts of certain psx games. Otherwise, it’s as good as the rg350 type devices, but onion os is infinitely better.
Big fan of translucent cases! I think I would have preferred different colored buttons for this one, but it looks nice all the same. I still love my 280v though ♥️

Yea was just watching the review and came down here to see if someone said something...I do not see any downside to lightbleeding out the sides.
@@QuippeXD Agreed. But, uhm.. perhaps the plastic could be a bit more opac so it would "hide" the top green light dot when facing/using the device. =)
Can't wait to play the same one retro game from my childhood 500 times on this device

This machine looks like handcramp city
The support from the community for this device makes me really want a miyoo mini of my own
I've got one and I highly recommend it, but hand cramps happen due to the size. No real complaints though.
What kind of support do you mean? MiyooCFW is for legacy Miyoos (Bittboy, PocketGo, etc.) only.
